We started on the north eastern side at Porto da Cruz and went counter clockwise through Porto Moniz, Calheta, Ribeira Brava and Camacha back to the airport where we started this amazing trip.

People love to hate on Ryanair but honestly how can you complain about a €10 or €20 ticket? Even if they’re more expensive, let’s say €100, odds are their competitors will be at least 2 to 3 times more. There’s no way I am paying that much more for a free bottle of water and the ability to say I don’t fly Ryanair😂🤦♂️ In most cases, I can add an extra legroom seat, a meal, airport priority, and still pay less than I would to fly their full-service competitors.
As someone who grew up in a secondary city, I am also really grateful for Ryanair because they opened up a ton of routes that wouldn’t have been operated by any other airlines. They, more than any other European airline, contribute to connecting this part of the world🇪🇺

MADEIRA - What’s It Like In The East Of The Island?
Outside of Funchal, what is the rest of Madeira like? We take a tour of the eastern side of this magnificent island.
It’s not a long drive from Funchal before you reach Pico do Arieiro, it is Madeira Islands's third highest peak. If you’re lucky and the weather is good you may be able to see the neighbouring island of Porto Santo.
Levada walks are popular on the island. Levadas transport water to the drier southern parts of the island and supply hydroelectric power. Their routes have become a network of walking paths.
On the North coast of Madeira, you can find Santana. The area is known for the traditional Madeiran homes constructed with sloping triangular roofs made of straw.
On the way back to Funchal we did try a little glass of rum at a distillery tour in Porto da Cruz.

South West Island Tour, Madeira | What’s it like?
We hope you enjoy this overview of the South West Island Tour on Madeira, especially if you are wondering what's it like.
So if you are spending a few days in Madeira, Portugal Island and asking - is it really The Hawaii of Europe, then this Madeira South West tour should answer this.
We begin by driving through a waterfall. Then we follow the road to to the village of Ponta do Sol with its attractive colourful buildings and pebble beach, it's a popular weekend destination for Funchal’s residents being one of the sunniest towns in Madeira. It’s also known for some of the best sunsets in Madeira.
Our next stop is Fajas Dos Padres, with it's steep cable car leading down to the rural tourism organic farm in Madeira island. Next we visit Madalena Do Mar, which was once an important centre of sugarcane production. Today it has one of the largest banana plantations on the whole island, thanks to its fertile land and mild climate. It hosts the annual Madeira Banana Festival, in July. Stroll on the promenade and the pebble beach, while enjoying the landscape, along the way you will find a few restaurants and bars, and Santa Madalena church.
We pass through the small town of Loreto, 2 km east of Calheta, it has a 15th-century chapel with its Manueline south portal and fine geometrically-patterned ceiling and some Levada walks from here.
We continue to Prazares, and take time to visit Prazares Orchard and Prazares mini zoo.
Next we travel to Ponta Do Pargo and we get to see Ponta Do Pargo Lighthouse and one of the best viewpoints in Madeira.
We then travel along one of Madeiras loveliest coastal roads to Paul Do Mar, which feels almost like a Cornish coastal town. Paul do Mar beach, also known as Ribeira das Galinhas (Chicken's River), is one of the most popular pebble beaches on the western coast.
Paul do Mar is barely two cobbled-streets wide. On the harbour you’ll find the some of the best fish restaurants on Madeira, where you can eat like locals.
Our next stop is South west Madeira’s largest town Calheta. Calheta marina is full of lovely bars and restaurants. Besides its modern marina and golden sandy beach, one of the very few on the island, Calheta is a popular place for many different types of outdoor pursuit, including hiking, mountain biking, surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, paragliding, canyoning, whale- and dolphin-watching and scuba diving, making it one of the best water sport destinations in Portugal.

Madeira Beach is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States, bordered on the west by the Gulf of Mexico, and on the east by St. Petersburg. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,895. Madeira Beach is known to be a quaint beach town that attracts affluent, preppy college students during the spring season. The entertainment district of John's Pass is located on the Intracoastal Waterway. The city is often referred to by locals as Mad Beach. It is named after the Portuguese island of Madeira.
