The Szelim-Cave - Tatabánya, Hungary - 2023 - 4K
The Szelim cave, located in the Danube–Ipoly National Park, belongs to the highly protected caves of Gerecse. Its main entrance is on the edge of Kő-hegy in Tatabánya, in the rock wall of the steep, western side of Kő-hegy, near the interior of Tatabánya, on Bánhida, at an altitude of 289 meters above sea level. A small path leads from the adjacent Turul monument to the cave. It is an important archaeological site with many medieval stories.
According to one story, during the Tatar attacks, the population of the surrounding villages sought refuge in the cave. When a little boy named János became thirsty and began to cry loudly, his mother took him to a nearby spring. However, they were captured there by the Tatars, who forced the woman to reveal the hiding place of the others. After raiding the unarmed population, the children and women were set on fire in the cave, and the men were dragged away. The veracity of the story is doubtful, but the János spring can be found not far from the cave.
According to another, less well-known version, the wife and child of one of Vértes, perhaps the lord of the castle of Vitányvár, sought water and shelter here, but were rejected by the residents hiding inside. The desperate woman came across Tatars lurking at the Labanc stream below the mountain and revealed her hiding place in revenge, but the Tatars also raped her. Since they could not enter the cave through the narrow Wolf Hole, they dug a large hole at the top of the mountain. The loose vault fell down, buried the refugees under it and knocked out the side walls of the cave in two places.

Szelim cave - Tatabánya, HUNGARY
Szelim cave - Tatabánya, HUNGARY The Szelim cave, located in the Danube–Ipoly National Park, belongs to the highly protected caves of Gerecse. Its main entrance is on the edge of Kő-hegy in Tatabánya, in the rock wall of the steep, western side of Kő-hegy, near the interior of Tatabánya, on Bánhida, at an altitude of 289 meters above sea level. A hot summer ride on the hills between Tata and Martonvásár, first passing through the village of Agostyán, then rolling along the Tarján-Csabdi-Bicske-Etyek cycle path, and finally testing the newly completed Etyek-Gyúró-Tordas section of the Budapest-Balaton (BuBa) cycle path.
Date: 18 June 2022 Distance: 70 km Difference in level: 700 m Duration: 6 hours Weather: 27°C, sunny Departure: Tata, railway station Arrival: Martonvásár, railway station In between: Tata, Agostyán, Tarján, Csabdi, Bicske, Botpuszta, Etyek, Gyúró, Tordas, Martonvásár.
The tour starts at the railway station in Tata, from where we will cycle through some local streets along the Agostyán road, which was completed in 2020, to the village. From here, we continue on a low-traffic road along the longest climb of the route to Gorba-top, passing by the Eco-Village and the Agostyáni Arboretum. From the top, you can finally start rolling past Vértestolna all the way to Tarján, where the high-quality cycle path, opened in 2017, begins. Passing through ploughs, fields and rolling hills, we roll down to the Tarján fishing lake and continue to the Vasztély dam, where we reach the public road again, which has been completely renovated and has very little traffic.
After passing through Csabdi, we are back on the exclusive cycle path, crossing the M1 motorway and passing the Csabdi reservoir. On the outskirts of Bicske between the fishing lake and Galagonyás, we continue on the closed service road alongside road 1, which is not very good quality, to the junction with the traffic at Etyek. The road leads straight into Etyek, but it is worth turning off at Botpuszta to the lake for a break. If you choose this route, it is important to know that you can only cycle on gravel here. Shortly after the fish pond you will arrive in Etyek, where the newly built Budapest-Balaton (BuBa) bicycle highway passes through.
The BuBa from Budapest to Etyek is completely finished and officially opened, from here to Kajászó the final stage of the works is still in progress, but the road is passable. It's worth noting that the hills of Etyek can be sweaty, and the route between Etyek and Gyúró is not necessarily family-friendly due to the many hills.
Soon after Gyúro we reach Tordas, from where we can soon continue the BUdapest-Balaton journey to Lake Velence and all the way to Lake Balaton. Or we can roll on to Martonvásár, from where we can easily take the train to Budapest, Székesfehérvár or the Hungarian sea.
The recording was made with the Timewarp (Hyperlapse) function of the GoPro Hero 10 camera in 4K quality. Sit back on the couch and enjoy this virtual tour!

Róma fürdő / Bakony
A Bakony legvadregényesebb sziklaszorosa télen bő víz idején.
A szurdokokban igen gazdag Bakony kétségkívül leglátványosabb pontja, a Gaja Bakonynána és Jásd közötti áttörése, a Római fürdő. A zúgó vízesések a függőleges sziklafalak aljába medencéket vágtak ki, melyek állítólag már a rómaiak idejében is fürdőhelyül szolgáltak.

Vertes Center Mall | Tatabánya, Hungary 🇭🇺
Vertes Center is a Hungarian mall in Tatabánya, Hungary. Constructed in 2006 and opened in 2007, it is one of the two malls built in Tatabánya around the same time. The other being Omega Park, which didn't do as well, closing and turned into now a government building. Vertes is in a pretty good spot, which might of helped with it's success, being right next to a train station that is on a line that goes as far as Kiev. A bus station also exists which can be accessed inside by a escalator. Being an American and seeing all the different stores that aren't in the United States was really interesting. The only places I recognized were, H&M, a T Mobile, and McDonalds. Vertes Center has a movie theater too. The bookstore was an interesting experience, when the only writing you could find was in Hungarian. Noya bought a cool copy of Animal Farm. I went to another mall in Budapest, which was pretty massive, which I will have up in the future. Check out my vlog series on some adventures in Hungary here!

Floating Village of Bokod - Hungary. Imagine a life on the cooling pond of a power plant.
Living on the cooling pond of the Oroszlányi lignite power plant is both, romantic and weird. On a stretch of over two kilometers cabins and cottages were built on stilts over lake Bokodi that serves today as the cooling pond of the nearby plant. Advantage, it never freezes in winter. Disadvantage, the view on the plant is impacting the otherwise romantic setting on the water.
