What To Do With 11 Hours in Luveve, Bulawayo!

Luveve is a residential suburb located 12 kilometers from Bulawayo's core business centre. Colonel C.L. Carbutt, the Chief Native Commissioner, was the inspiration for the name of this district, which was founded in 1936. Carbutt was given the moniker Nomveve when working among the Zulu in South Africa, and this nickname was altered to Luveve when he landed in Matabeleland. Our Drone Videographer Ishmael Mkandla and Cinematographer Thembani Melusi Phakati take us on a tour of Luveve in this video to demonstrate what can be accomplished in 11 hours in this historic location.
The 11 Hour Guide:
1. Learn the History of the Place.
2. Take a walk on L-Street and Banda Square.
3. Visit Chigumira Shopping Centre.
4. Get Schooled on African Culture by Bekezela Dube.
5. Grab a bite by Samaz Butchery.
6. Take a Tour of Luveve Railway Line.
7. Take Pics by Calvin 'Dat Luveve Boi's' mural.
8. Take a look at the Historic Luveve Beit Hall.
9. Watch a soccer match by Luveve Stadium.
10. Catch the sunset by Matsika Butchery.
History on the naming of Luveve township sourced from the Bulawayo City Council Library.

To round out the best year of my life, I’m spending the last two months of 2022 exploring nine countries across southern Africa. After a week in Cape Town, South Africa, we flew up to Windhoek and spent six days driving across the incredible, raw and breathtaking landscapes of Namibia. From Namibia, we headed east and crossed the land border into Botswana where we spent four days driving through the bush and had our fair share of wild adventures. Then, we made the border crossing into Zimbabwe (from where I also spent a few hours in Zambia) to visit the famous Victoria Falls and I got super sick. The adventure continues…

Hi! I’m Jana, a British-Dutch-Canadian. I was raised mostly in Canada and left for a six-week backpacking trip at the beginning of 2019… and I haven’t been back to Canada since! Instead, I traveled full-time for nearly two years through Asia and the South Pacific and then moved back to Europe in September 2020, based first in Belgium and now in Austria. I’ve lived in six countries so far and my lifelong goal is to visit every country in the world so I’m currently spending as much time as I can getting out and exploring the world. Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage
A short trip to Chipangali Bulawayo Zimbabwe
Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage is a non profit organisation dedicated to the rescue and care of orphaned, injured, abandoned, abused or confiscated wild animals in southern Africa.
It is a haven for wild animals which have little hope for survival in the wild – creatures which have been orphaned, abandoned, injured, born in captivity or brought up unsuccessfully as pets.
It is also often the last refuge for those brought in sick or injured, and increasingly it is a sanctuary for confiscated animals.
Chipangali offers a volunteer program for people from all over the world. To find out more, check out

Cape Buffalo herd in Maninga area, Doma, Zimbabwe
Quite a Magic Moment...
I was staying at Doma Safaris Lodge:
We woke up at 3.30 am, drove 1 hour to be in Maninga, another hour to find tracks. From there it took us almost 5 hours of solid tracking over hills and walleys of Doma, with heat, tse-tse flies and other goodies to catch up with those guys. And they are Wild indeed - don't think they are just wild cows! All it takes is a broken branch steped on or a tiny swirl of wind to get your scent and they would be gone. If you would get them wounded, cornered, sick, bad mannered...they would come at you and once they decide to charge your chances are utterly simple - one of you will die.
I hope I have managed to get you closer to those Doma Buffalo that are usually out of reach for mere mortals - enjoy!

Be WARNED!! Hazard in Victoria Falls Highway
Be WARNED!! Victoria Falls Highway
You can die if you are not careful driving along Victoria Falls - Bulawayo highway.
The road was washed away by heavy rains that washed away part of the road after Masuwe bridge when approaching town.
It pains me to see that place neglected LL Ike that. It was supposed to be an emergency.
