LUMUT - THE GATEWAY TO PULAU PANGKOR / SPIRIT ISLAND PERAK MALAYSIA TRAVEL VLOG / RMCO LOCK DOWN
Before heading to Perak's Pulau Pangkor, aka Spirit Island we are spending a few days in the little town of Lumut which. The weekend is better avoided, especially since Malaysia lets everyone travel again. The locals, especially the Malays, love the place, and I do understand why. Nowadays it is a duty free island full of nice beaches, jungles, monkeys and hornbills. But let's first look around Lumut which has a special touch.
There is not much known about the origins of the inhabitants of Pangkor. The local inhabitants believed that the island was protected by the spirits, so they called Pulau Pangkor the Spirit Island.Another name for Pulau Pangkor in the old days was Dinding, which means 'screen' or 'partition'. This was in reference to the position of the island as it protects the mainland's estuary.Over the years the island was frequently visited by pirates who were roaming the seas around the island. They robbed boats in the Straits of Malacca and hide themselves on the hills on the island. The names of Batu Lanun meaning Pirates' Cave and Batu Perompak meaning Pirates' Rock echo the memory of the pirates. When the Dutch came in 1670, they build a Fort of which the remains still stand. Dutch records referred to it as the Dindings fort ('Dingdingh') - named after the Dindings River which it faced on the coast of the Peninsula.

Entry from: Lumut, Malaysia
Entry Title: Lumut, Perak, Malaysia.
Entry:
Did a three days two nights trip to Lumut, Perak. A small coastal town off Pangkor Island, Malaysia. This time we stayed at Swiss Garden Resort Damai Laut. The resort is pretty nice place to relax and has a nice view of sunset in the evenings. Price is around RM 270 per night. Just keep in mind that the resort is not exactly in Lumut Town but another 30 minutes drive away heading north. Its very close to the Lumut Port.
The place is quite secluded in itself, a self contained resort. Therefore, be prepared to dine at the resort restaurants as you would not want to drive out of the resort at night for dinner as the road heading to the resort is quite bad, deserted, no lights and with hair pin bends. A slight mistake would find yourself in the mangrove swamp. Heading to the resort I used the North South Highway and exited at Bidor. From there, just follow the signage to Pangkor. The signage is quite good.
On my return trip, I used the coastal road heading back to Kuala Lumpur. Its quite safe to use this road during daylight but I would not recommend this road for night driving. Few places to visit in Lumut are the Jetty,Mangrove Swamp and just shopping for sea products as Lumut is a fishing town. Please find the attached photographs for your reference.

Malaysia is a land of contrasts, where many languages and cultures come together to form a distinctly Southeast Asian nation, unlike any of its neighbours.
Malaysia is home to a picturesque coastline, tropical islands, and sun-warmed coral reefs.
The humid jungles of Borneo and the mainland are filled with strange plants and animals, while the cool highlands always relieve the heat.
Here are the best destinations in Malaysia to help you plan your vacation.

Ramada Lumut Resort
Ramada Lumut Resort. An idyllic setting. A world class partnership. An ideal investment opportunity.
Visit for more information
Whether as a second home, vacation home, or corporate retreat, Ramada Lumut Resort offers a rare opportunity to invest in the first, and to date, only integrated destination resort on Peninsular Malaysia’s northwest coast.
With Nett rental returns starting at 7% for over ten years, 90% margin of finance, and the first resort investment opportunity in Malaysia to offer 100% profit sharing.
Tucked away in quaint Lumut and accessible via the upcoming West Coast Highway and the international airport in Ipoh, Ramada Lumut Resort offers an alternative and unique destination to local tourists as well as those from ASEAN & East Asian countries.
Over the past few years, an economic boom in Manjung has fuelled Perak’s highest growth rate through massive foreign and local investments. The largest investment has been by Vale of Brazil, one of the world’s largest iron ore producers committing a multiphase RM15 billion investment with RM3 billion already committed.
With no 4-star rated hotels and service apartments in the district of Manjung, Ramada Lumut Resort will be uniquely poised to tap into this fast growing business and existing MICE market. Add to this, a growing influx of tourists and a solid international hotel chain managing the resort, Ramada Lumut Resort would be the benchmark for new resorts in Malaysia.
The 4-star resort will boast 439 luxurious 1, 2 and 3-bedroom Serviced Apartments and Suites that are available in a variety of floorplans. Plus 7 exclusive Forest Villas. A 365-day resort lifestyle that also features 5 meeting rooms and 350-pax convention facility, gourmet restaurant, and nearly a dozen recreational amenities.
One of Malaysia's most iconic themed destination resorts will open its doors on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia early 2019. Ramada Lumut Resort offers a total living and leisure environment which promises to be both a showcase and a benchmark for exclusive tropical living.

Pulau Pangkor (Island) Perak Malaysia Travel Guide 探索霹靂州邦咯島福临宫 马拉西亚旅游景点
Location : Pulau Pangkor, Perak, Malaysia.
I made two trips to the island of Pangkor with almost 10 years in between for the same reason, the hornbills. The biggest difference between the 2 trips was the first trip the camera I brought along failed me completely. The other difference was heartbreaking too. I could not see the rhinoceros hornbills anymore for the second trip. I remember I could hear the loud squawking and flapping of this larger species as I was riding a bike along the more forested hills of the island and of course also at the Sea View Resort during feeding time ( But sadly, not anymore. The only consolation was that the smaller Pied Hornbills were still around but lesser in numbers. They are a lot more shy now. They used to fearlessly pick crumbs from under my breakfast table at the roadside foodstalls. Their friends could have possibly migrated to other islands like Pulau Ubin of Singapore where it recorded a sudden increase of Pied Hornbills.
There are several ways of getting to Pangkor Island :- 1) KLIA 2 by Star Shuttle bus 2) By Star Shuttle bus from TBS terminal in KL 3) By Sri Maju bus from Butterworth Penang.
All buses stop at Lumut bus terminal which is a short walk from the waterfront where the ferry terminal is. Ferry ride is about 45min.
Pangkor island is one destination where you do not need advance reservation or tour guide. It is best explored on your own with a motorcycle. You may check into Sea View Hotel if you just want a convenient experience of watching the hornbill feeding by the boss himself, the legendary badminton doubles player Datuk Tan Yee Khan. Or you may put up at budget Sunset View Chalet in a modern Malay village in Telok Nipah which offers feeding too. Both have very nice beaches.
Our first stop was at the best coffee in town when our bus mate, Madam Beh who happened to be a local, insisted on buying us.
After which we had a good tour of the just completed Fu Lin Kong Temple (福临宫) somewhere in between a densely Chinese housing estate and a hill. Next...Hornbill Feeding at Sea View Resort (
