Cultural Heritage Sites of Bahawalpur
The Abbasid dynasty governed the princely state of Bahawalpur for two centuries, with more than half of its rule spent as a protectorate under the British Raj. Originating in the mid-18th century due to the diminishing influence of the Mughal Empire, Bahawalpur was one among over 500 semi-autonomous states and fiefdoms that arose across the subcontinent. Among these, 70 princely states were prominent, earning their rulers the title of Highness. Spanning an area of 45,911 square kilometers near the confluence of the Sutlej and Chenab rivers, Bahawalpur held a significant place in the region's history.
Named after its first Nawab, Mohamad Bahawal Khan II, the state remained under the rule of eight successive generations before its integration into Pakistan in October 1955. Today, Bahawalpur stands as the 12th largest city in Pakistan, renowned for its association with the Rohi-Cholistan desert.

Bahawalpur
The historical significance of the Abbasid dynasty's rule over the Bahawalpur princely state for two centuries is underscored by its establishment during the mid-18th century amid the weakening grip of the Mughal Empire. This era of transition and decentralized authority led to the emergence of numerous semi-autonomous states and fiefdoms across the Indian subcontinent, with around 70 notable princely states being recognized for their prominence and significance, titled as “Highness” by their rulers. Among them was the State of Bahawalpur, covering an expanse of 45,911 square kilometers near the confluence of the Sutlej and Chenab rivers.
Named after its inaugural Nawab, Mohamad Bahawal Khan II, the State of Bahawalpur witnessed the reign of 8 successive generations before being integrated into Pakistan in October 1955. Presently, Bahawalpur stands as the 12th largest city in Pakistan and is renowned as the region of Rohi - Cholistan desert.

Stunning View of Derawar Fort from Qibla Balcony of Abbassi Masjid
Derawar Fort and Abbasi Mosque are two of the most remarkable and fascinating tourist attractions in Pakistan. Located in the heart of Cholistan desert, Derawar Fort is an imposing structure that has stood the test of time for over four centuries. Abbasi Mosque, on the other hand, is a beautiful mosque located in the city of Bahawalpur, adjacent to the Derawar Fort. The view of Derawar Fort from Abbasi Mosque's Qibla balcony is simply breathtaking, and one can't help but marvel at the magnificent architecture and design.
The Abbasi Mosque is an excellent example of Mughal-era architecture, and it was built by Nawab Bahawal Khan in 1849. The mosque's facade is decorated with beautiful blue and white tiles, and it is known for its unique and intricate design. The mosque has four minarets, and the central dome is surrounded by four smaller domes, giving the mosque a grand and imposing appearance.
From the Qibla balcony of the Abbasi Mosque, visitors can see a clear and unobstructed view of the Derawar Fort. The view of the fort from this vantage point is nothing short of mesmerizing. The fort is situated approximately 100 kilometers from Bahawalpur, and it is a testament to the rich history and culture of the region.
The Derawar Fort was built by Rai Jajja Bhatti, a Rajput ruler of the Bhatti tribe, in the 9th century. The fort was later captured by the Abbasi family, who ruled the region in the 18th century. The fort has a unique design, and it is surrounded by a high wall that is over 30 meters high. There are forty bastions on the wall, and the fort has four gateways.
The view of the Derawar Fort from Abbasi Mosque's Qibla balcony is simply stunning. The fort stands tall and proud, surrounded by the vast and barren Cholistan desert. The fort's walls and bastions are clearly visible from the balcony, and visitors can see the intricate design and architecture up close. The fort's four gateways are also visible, and they give an idea of the grandeur and scale of the fort.
The view of the fort from the mosque's balcony is particularly striking during sunset, as the sun's rays bathe the fort in a golden hue, giving it a magical and surreal appearance. The fort's silhouette against the backdrop of the setting sun is a sight to behold, and it is an experience that is sure to stay with visitors for a long time.
In conclusion, the view of the Derawar Fort from Abbasi Mosque's Qibla balcony is one of the most breathtaking sights in Pakistan. It is a testament to the rich history and culture of the region, and it is a must-see for anyone visiting Bahawalpur. The Derawar Fort and Abbasi Mosque are two of Pakistan's most remarkable and fascinating landmarks, and the view of the fort from the mosque's balcony is an experience that is sure to leave visitors awe-struck.

Places to visit in Bahawalpur in One Day | City of Nawabs | Noor Mahal | Pakistan
Recently I explored Bahawalpur in one day and visited some famous places such as Jamia Masjid, Old Bazaar and Noor Mahal. This Mahal is one of the Majestic Places of Pakistan similar to Faiz Mahal mainly structure . It takes you to the Royal era of Nawabs. Prince Sadiq was the last ruler of Bahawalpur.
Before entrance you need to show your Identity Card and for foreigners, they have to provide their passport. There is a ticket price of 75 Pkr which you need to pay before entrance.
If we talk about history then i couldn't find so much details on the walls as everything was mentioned related to military and Army efforts rather than focusing on history.
A good place for photography and bridal shoots.

Best of Bahawalpur | Australian in Pakistan | Cholistan Desert | Uch Shariff | Dhaka to Dakar Ep 10
My adventure of Dhaka to Dakar 2023 I head out to Southern Punjab in Pakistan, and stay in the town of Bahawalpur. I try out the excellent Daewoo bus service and stay at the Hotel One in Bahawalpur.
From there I head to the desert - the Cholistan Desert Rally is in full swing! I visit the Derawar Fort and the graveyard there as well.
In Bahawalpur I check out the library, built 99 years ago and meet an ex-politician who was once part of the Pakstani Government. The Noor Mahal is a special mansion, but the undoubted highlight of my time in the region is the Tomb of Javinda Bibi at Uch Shariff. See how I get along with security in the car every step of the way!
Oh and of course - a MASSIVE thankyou to Tim Blight, author of ‘Pakistan Traveller’ who has helped me so much in organising the Pakistan portion of the trip! Check out his book and blog at
