Campsite Review: Camp Savuti - Chobe National Park Savuti Marsh, Savuti Channel (Travel in Botswana)
Camping in Botswana
As we head inland from the Chobe River, toward the Savuti Marsh (a mere 160 kilometres away), we take it quite easy, thinking it will be a very short trip to our next campsite. Not quite. The sandy road (all of 68km) takes a long time, but when we finally arrive, we're quite happy with our site at Camp Savuti SKL. They've put us in site 10, right on the edge of the camping area. Not on the channel, but nevertheless a great site, with loads of shade, nice privacy, and quite a few animals wandering through.
Also, a lot less bugs than at the Chobe River sites at Ihaha. Not sure what it is about the Savuti area, but the lions and elephants here are EXTREMELY vocal during our stay, and every evening there is a veritable chorus of roaring and trumpeting. There also seem to be some skirmishes taking place in the night. Hopefully the animals are too busy to come stalk us at our site, as we huddle close to the fire for safety. The lions sound quite close, after all.
The camp features great, walled, ablutions, but we never quite have a taste of the hot water meant to be on offer. Nevermind, as it's nice and hot and humid in Botswana anyway. There is a firepit, a drum braai (BBQ), and some work surfaces too. Another great unfenced campsite in Botswana, well worth the visit. Just be prepared for the long sandy slog.

All the INFO you'll NEED for the Central Kalahari Game Reserve | Botswana
Exploring the Central Kalahari Game Reserve | Botswana🇧🇼
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) in Botswana is one of the last fully self-sufficient destinations to visit. The reserve is massive, stretching over an area of 52 000km² and seriously remote. If you dont bring it, you will not have it and this includes water for washing.
The reserve can be entered through one of four gates. The Matswere (North East), Tsau (North West), Xade (West) and via the Khutse game reserve in the south. The Matswere gate is by far the easiest to access the reserve from, a short 45km drive from the village of Rakops.
Camps and sites are scattered all over the reserve with a concentration about 40km inside the Matswere gate. This includes the Deception, Kori, Sunday and Leopard camps. As well the as the Tau Pan lodge and Kalahari Plains camp. The Passarge sites are north west from there and the Letiahau and Piper sites to the south west.
The road conditions were surprisingly good with the worst being the outside sections needed to access the reserve. I cannot comment on the roads towards Xade and further south of Piper as I did not go to these areas. Also note I visited the reserve during winter which is the dry season.
The sites are basic with a non-flushing toilet, bucket shower, fire pit and shade. There is no water or any other facilities available in the reserve. As I mentioned, if you dont bring it, you wont have it #Botswana #CKGR #5410Africa

Botswana | Chobe River Cruise
The Chobe river cruise offers you the best both worlds, amazing wildlife and the promise of sunset on the river , Chobe River in Chobe National park just outside the town of Kasane.
The beautiful thing is you can get up close to large herds of animals that are abundant in the Chobe National Park. They tend to make their way to the river and onto the islands in the river to feast on the sweet grass.
Its also very popular for Photo safaris.. There is a high concentration of elephants , and herds of elephants frequently cross the Chobe River. Hippos and crocodiles like to bask in the sun next to the water. You can also see buffalo and giraffe and other plains game. It is also a Birders Paradise.
The Boat cruises depart regularly in the mornings and afternoons

Days 3 to 5 of an EPIC adventure in Botswana: Easy Camping in Letlhakane.
Join us as we drive off to Letlhakane to continue the biggest overland exploration we have embarked on. We are driving to Letlhakane and camping there for three nights at Tuuthebe Lodge and Camping. It is right alongside the main road, so you hear the traffic all the time, but it is also close to town, so it is easy nip in quickly for something we might need. This was our first bit of camping for the trip, so we did everything as though we were off-grid, so that we could test our equipment and make changes where needed.
We also spent the days doing laundry, visiting a friend and doing shopping for the one planned night on Kubu Island, where there are no facilities. We had enough food and water to last about 10 days, even though the plan was just for the one day. We are of the mind that you just don’t know what to expect, but if something goes wrong, at least have food and water, with the water being obviously being more important.
The stay in Letlhakane was thus just a bit of an acclimatisation to camping, which would be “real” when we got to Kubu Island.
Thank you for being with us on this one.

ALL THE INFO for the Nxai Pan NP in Botswana🇧🇼
The Nxai Pan National Park | Botswana
The Nxai Pan park was a pleasant surprise. I had very little expectations for the place, but often this is when you your mind is blown away. This was definitely the case here. Why you may ask? Elephant, elephant and more elephant.
During the winter the park only has one working waterhole which leads to large amounts of elephant and other game congregating in the mornings and late afternoons. After only 2 days I filmed so much footage that it would not be impossible to include everything in one video. Sad, but hopefully I managed to do a good job.
The Nxai Pan is in central Botswana, opposite the Makgadigadi. It is accessed from then Maun to Nata/Francis Town Road. Or as I did directly from Makgadigadi. The main camp is the South campsite which is situated in the northern part of the park🙂 Further south in the park is Baine's Baobabs, a must visit in my opinion. The main attraction is obviously the wildlife.
The campsite is operated by the Xomae group. Things work slightly different in Botswana. Various private operators, as well as government, share the operation of campsites in government parks. The site is basic. You have a fire pit, BBQ stand and shade. There is ablutions with hot water, but no drinking water or electricity is available. Overall an amazing stay. I can highly recommend it #botswana #travel #travelafrica #5410africa

Nata Lodge Botswana
Nata Lodge
Drive the A1 north, and the donkeys, cows, and goats soon give way to elephants, giraffes and even ostriches as you close in on the village of Nata. Click below for the full article with video on SA4X4.
An oasis perched on the edge of Botswana's celebrated salt pans, Nata Lodge is on the way to everywhere!
The nearby Nata Bird Sanctuary is typically home to arid salt pans but bursts into life with the summer rains. The Nata River fills the sweeping Sua Salt Pan, and travellers greet an ancient inland sea rich with birdlife when steering into the community-run reserve. These silky waters are remnants of a 'super lake' that existed hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Follow the call of the wild waters onward to Kasane and explore Africa's enchanting elephant capital on the Chobe River. Many boating safaris are on offer in Kasane, but Chobe Safari Lodge is closest to the Chobe National Park, with the fastest, easiest access to epic game viewing.
An expertly-guided cruise gently navigates these lively waters to sail past hippos, witness heaving herds of buffalo and pause for elephants crossing while cameras snap up all the action.
Both the famous Chobe Safari Lodge campsite and iconic Nata Lodge stopover offer individual campsites scattered below the boughs of tall trees. There is access to a power and modern ablutions with hot showers. Guests can access also luxury lodge facilities, such as Wi-Fi, sparkling swimming pool, a restaurant, sunny cocktail deck and an activity centre.
