Martinique is definitely worth it, especially because flying to this island is not very expensive from Paris, LA, London or Amsterdam. What is there to do? From Martinique we visit many more hidden gems in the Caribbean, but now you can already see some of the highlights. We sleep in Saint Pierre, visit the top of Mont Pelée, stand under the waterfall Saut Gendarme, snorkel in Anse Dufour and Anne Noire and stroll over the most beautiful beaches called Plage du Diamant and Plage des Salines. Also, the video shows many different accommodations in very different areas on the island.
This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman and Cape Verde, Martinique is our fourth destination. Last month I had an opportunity to spend two wonderful weeks in Martinique - beautiful Carabbean island. It was on my bucket list for a long time and thanks to the new budget airline - Level, it finally became possible to get there cheaply! I was amazed by the island from day one - beside it's beauty, it's not yet crowded by turists, local people are really kind and waht's important for me, it has perfect surf spots that are still not popular (it will change soon, believe me!).

In the French Antilles, Martinique is a picture-perfect island with white sand beaches, palm trees, sunshine, and rum in abundance. It is a tropical paradise.
The island known as Ile aux Fleurs (Flower Island) is also home to several volcanoes, lush greenery, and endless fields of sugarcane. Any Martinique vacation also has a special place for the region's history, culture, and traditions.
Martinique is ideal for a retreat for just the two of you, but it's also great for parties or families seeking a balance of leisurely vacation and outdoor activities.
One of the French islands that make up the French Antilles is the Caribbean Sea island of Martinique. Martinique Island is an area of France with a special status; specifically, it is one of France's Départements d'Outre Mer, or DOMs. As a result, it is dependent on the French State; the euro is the official currency; and French and Martiniquais creole are both recognized as official languages.
On the ruins of the previous city, the current Saint Pierre was constructed, and it is worthwhile to visit for a few leisurely days in the sun. Visit the beach, learn about the devastating eruption at the Musée Vulcanologique Franck Perret, and explore some of the explosion's remnants in charming Saint Pierre.
Saint-Pierre was destroyed by the active volcano Montagne Pelée (1,397 m) on May 8, 1902. The walk to the summit of Montagne Pelée, a dormant volcano today, is one of the best things to do in Martinique. If there are no clouds, you can see the Atlantic Ocean and Saint-Pierre Bay very well from there.
Our favorite hike in Martinique was Montage Pelée. The trail is a 2-kilometer trip one way and begins in Le Morne-Rouge. If you want to take in the vistas, we advise setting out early in the morning because the peak is prone to cloud cover.
In Martinique, a stunning beach is never far away. Martinique's beaches are the main draw for many tourists, especially when it's chilly in Europe.
There is a perfect beach location for everyone, from crowded beaches to undeveloped shorelines. Martinique's beaches are all quite accessible and simple to get by automobile.
The Grande Anse des Salines is consistently chosen as the most picturesque beach in Martinique, possibly because it embodies all that we associate with the French Caribbean island's beaches—white sand, coral reefs, and palm trees. Since the beach is highly popular, we advise visiting during the week.
Enjoy a wonderful day out on a catamaran and get a different perspective of the Martinique beaches.
One of the nicest activities in Martinique is taking a catamaran trip, which typically includes a local lunch and drinks on board as well as a few pauses for snorkeling and dipping into the clear waters .
There are various catamaran cruise options in Martinique, departing from various locations around the island.
The peninsula known as the Caravelle is what gives Martinique Island its distinctive shape. The most well-known of the many short hikes around the Presque Ile de la Caravelle is Le Gran Sentier (7 km, about 3.5 hours).
Le Grand Sentier, which departs from Trinité, leads hikers through the forest, mangroves, cliffs, and savannah to provide tourists a comprehensive perspective of Martinique's most stunning scenery in only one trip. You can visit the remains of Dubuc Castle along the way for a modest cost.
When climbing Montagne Pelée, we advise beginning early in the day to escape the clouds and the hottest time of the day. Water is not available along the trail, so bring enough to last the entire trek.
A must-see in Martinique is the magnificent Balata Garden, which can be found in the hills of Fort-de-France. More than 3,000 different varieties of tropical plants and flowers can be found in this botanical park; it is a visual feast!

Que faire en Martinique ? Mais surtout que faire dans la commune du Diamant? Aujourd'hui on vous montre qu'on peut satisfaire tous vos sens au Diamant. On relax dans la mer, on fait du sport au Morne Larcher, on se rappel de notre histoire au mémorial Cap 110, on se cultive à la Maison du Bagnard et puis enfin on se fait plaisir culinaire local à Poyo Rico.

Airbnb in Gros-morne, Martinique
We found a charming Airbnb with incredible hosts who made our trip memorable. They are perfectly situated in the middle of the island, away from the highly populated tourist areas. Gros-Morne is just a one-hour drive to all corners of the island, and we definitely took advantage, exploring as much of Martinique as possible in just one week!
Mt Pelée
That’s right! We hiked the third deadliest volcano: Mt. Pelée. Pro-tip: start your hike early for the best views and for the least amount of crowds. Hike up to the caldera, around the caldera, and even into the Chinois cone if you still have the energy! Definitely plan to hike around the caldera for the best views over the ocean. After a successful hike, treat yourself to the island’s best ice cream: Ziouka Glaces in Le Carbet. Then, go for a dip in the refreshing waters—you earned it!
Anse Couleuvre
Martinique is an island, and therefore home to countless beaches! We spent one week driving around to find the best beaches, and we found our favorite to be Anse Couleuvre! A remote, black sand beach in the northernmost parts of Martinique, Anse Couleuvre was the least crowded! Navigating your way to this beach takes a bit of effort: a two hour drive from Les Trois-Îlets, and then a 15 minute hike to reach the beach. Trust us - it’s worth it!
Rum, rum, rum!
When in Martinique—take a rum tour! Martinique is home to more than 15 rum distilleries, most of them offering FREE rum tastings! Our favorite was Plantation St. James which includes beautiful grounds and an in-depth museum about the history of rum in Martinique. We highly recommend a visit - especially on a rainy day!
Scuba
Or as the French say, “Plongeé”! There are many dive sites, for which you can see diverse sea life! While we didn’t encounter any turtles, were told you can catch them in the early mornings at Anse Dufour. We saw colorful corals, and even some moray eels! There’s nothing like surrounding yourself in schools of fish to feel like you’ve entered another world.
Diamond Rock and Cap 110 Memorial
What’s a trip without a little bit of history? We visited the Cap 110 Memorial which honored the lives lost in a tragic shipwreck in the 1830s. The somber memorial is a lasting tribute, and offers views of the famous Diamond Rock.
Savanna of Petrifications
Looking for beautiful, vast scenery? Head to the petrified forests and hike to the edges of the world. You can spend hours hiking to remote beaches, away from the crowds. Bring enough sunblock and water, because there aren’t many places to hide from the sun.
