Pelion or Pelium (Modern Greek: Πήλιο, Pílio; Ancient Greek/Katharevousa: Πήλιον. Pēlion) is a mountain at the southeastern part of Thessaly in northern Greece, forming a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Its highest summit, Pourianos Stavros, is 1,624 metres (5,328 ft) amsl.[1] The Greek National Road 38 (GR-38) runs through the southern portion of the peninsula and GR-38A runs through the middle.

Fortified hill of Kolonos @ Thermopylae, Lamia, Greece, Europe
Kolonós Hill is a hill in Central Greece. It is located in the narrow coastal passage of Thermopylae and is close to the city of Lamia. The hill is known as the site of the last stand of the 300 Spartans during the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. In 1939, Spiridon Marinatos, a Greek archaeologist, found a large number of Persian arrows around the hill, which changed the previously accepted identification of the place where the Greeks had fallen, killed by Persian arrows. A memorial stone was placed at the site during antiquity, but the original stone has not survived. In 1955 a new stone was erected, with Simonides' epigram engraved on it.

Ypati -Ελλάδα(Greek: Υπάτη) is a village and a former municipality in Phthiotis, central peninsular Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality of Lamia, of which it is a municipal unitThe municipal unit has an area of 257.504 km2. Its 2011 population was 4,541 for the municipal unit, and 496 for the settlement of Ypati itself. The town has a long history, being founded at the turn of the 5th/4th century BC as the capital of the Aenianes. During the Roman period the town prospered and was regarded as the chief city of Thessaly, as well as a bishopric. It was probably abandoned in the 7th century as a result of the Slavic invasions, but was re-established by the 9th century as Neopatras. The town became prominent as a metropolitan see and was the capital of the Greek principality of Thessaly in 1268–1318 and of the Catalan Duchy of Neopatras from 1319 to 1391. It was conquered by the Ottomans in the early 15th century and remained under Ottoman rule until the Greek War of Independence.

Ypati
is around 30 km west of Thermopylae and north of the Oiti mountains and Xerisa river, it is also 25 km west of Lamia south of the GR-38 (Lamia - Karpenissi - Agrinio), around 230 km NNW of Athens and about 50 km east of Karpenissi, it overlooks the Spercheios to the north. The geography includes forests and grasslands to the south in higher elevations. Phocis lies to the south. Around 3 km northwest are the famous springs which dates to the ancient times. It is around a few kilometres from the mountains.
Η Υπάτη είναι κωμόπολη του διευρυμένου Δήμου Λαμιέων στο Νομό Φθιώτιδας, ενώ απετέλεσε έδρα του τέως ομώνυμου δήμου από το 1999 έως τα τέλη του 2010. Κατά την Απογραφή του 2011 είχε πληθυσμό 496 κατοίκους. Βρίσκεται 22 χιλιόμετρα δυτικά της Λαμίας, στις βόρειες πλαγιές του όρους Οίτη.
Στο Μεσαίωνα αναφερόταν ως Νέαι Πάτραι. Από το 1268 ήταν πρωτεύουσα της αυτόνομης ηγεμονίας της Θεσσαλίας και, μεταξύ των ετών 1318 και 1390, ήταν έδρα του σταυροφορικού Δουκάτου Νέων Πατρών.
Αργότερα αναφερόταν ως Πατρατζίκι, όνομα που καταγράφεται και σε πρακτικά των ετών της Επανάστασης του 1821, όπως για παράδειγμα στα Πρακτικά της Συνέλευσης των Σαλώνων, ως τόπος προέλευσης του Γεωργίου Αινιάν.[1]
Η Υπάτη φιλοξενεί, μεταξύ άλλων, το Βυζαντινό Μουσείο Φθιώτιδας και το Κακογιάννειο Αστεροσχολείο Υπάτης. Ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζει ο ναός της Αγίας Σοφίας, ο οποίος έχει κτιστεί στη θέση παλαιότερου ναού αναγόμενου στην παλαιοχριστιανική περίοδο. Στο σημερινό ναό, ο οποίος γειτνίαζε με Βαπτιστήριο του 5ου αιώνα στη νότια πλευρά του, διακρίνονται σπαράγματα του πρώτου συγκροτήματος. Ενδιαφέρων είναι και ο ναός του Αγίου Νικολάου, επίσης κτισμένος στη θέση παλαιοχριστιανικής βασιλικής του 4ου έως 6ου αιώνα. Σημαντικό είναι το Κάστρο της Υπάτης, κτισμένο σε λόφο επάνω από τον οικισμό, στο οποίο πραγματοποιούνται εργασίες αναστήλωσης και στερέωση. Το Κάστρο ανοικοδομήθηκε ή ενισχύθηκε σε διάφορες φάσεις από Έλληνες, καθώς και Φράγκους και Καταλανούς κατακτητές.
Το Ypati
είναι περίπου 30 χλμ. Δυτικά των Θερμοπυλών και βόρεια των ορεινών Oiti και του ποταμού Xerisa, είναι επίσης 25 χλμ δυτικά της Λαμίας νότια του GR-38 (Λαμία - Καρπενήσι - Αγρίνιο), περίπου 230 χλμ. Νοτιοδυτικά της Αθήνας και περίπου 50 χλμ. ανατολικά του Καρπενησίου, έχει θέα στον Σπερχειό στα βόρεια. Η γεωγραφία περιλαμβάνει δάση και λιβάδια στο νότο σε υψηλότερα υψόμετρα. Η Φωκίδα βρίσκεται νότια. Περίπου 3 χιλιόμετρα βορειοδυτικά βρίσκονται οι περίφημες πηγές που χρονολογούνται στην αρχαιότητα. Βρίσκεται σε απόσταση λίγων χιλιομέτρων από τα βουνά.

Το μέσον του κεντρικού πλατώματός του καταλαμβάνει ο οθωνικός στρατώνας, στον οποίο στεγάζεται το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Λαμίας.
