Hiking in Arzúa in Galicia Spain | Waterfalls in Northern Spain

I didn't know where Alfonso (a Galician local) was taking me. Still, we were able to explore the waterfalls of his childhood, traipse past areas where they would wash clothes in the river, see giant slugs, ride a car ferry across a reservoir and see Betzanos a small village along the Camino de Santiago (Camino Ingles) along with Arzua backcountry. Come with me on a journey of getting comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Galicia: The Magical, Mystical, and Stunning Silleda

When my friend Javi told us to visit his hometown to see Galicia’s highest waterfall, I hesitated...

I was born in Bolívar, the Venezuelan home state of the highest waterfall in the world (Salto el Ángel), so nothing else seemed to impress me.
• ⠀
But, oh boy! Was I mistaken! ⠀
• ⠀
Fervenza do Toxa might not be the highest nor the biggest water spectacle you’ll see in your life, but it has an enchanting spell that makes you wanna stay there forever 😍⠀
• ⠀
Then, there’s the Monastery of Carboeiro, an impressive arquitectural work from the 10th century.⠀
• ⠀
Combine a visit to those two landmarks with short but invigorating hikes through gorgeous natural trails in between, and you’re all set!⠀
• ⠀
Galicia is more than great seafood and beach life. That I learned during my last trip thanks to Javi :-)⠀

Octopus in Melide - Camino de Santiago documentary

Food is an important part of any trip, even when walking the Camino de Santiago. Spain has long and good traditions when it comes to food and many of the specialties you can taste when you go on the pilgrimage route. One of the dishes you must taste is Octopus. Although Melide is not located along the sea, they are known for their Octopus. I did not like Octopus, but maybe you do? You must at least taste!
