La Ciotat is a town on the French Mediterranean coast. At its southern end, the Parc du Mugel botanical garden features tropical plants, pebble beaches and playgrounds. La Ciotat is a town on France’s Mediterranean coast. At its southern tip, the Parc du Mugel botanical garden encompasses tropical plants, pebble beaches and play areas. The grand Musée Ciotaden, amid the cafes and bars of the regenerated Old Port area, features exhibitions on the town’s shipbuilding history and the invention of the game of pétanque. Just north is the Eden Theater, the world's oldest operating cinema.
The Provençal harbour town of La Ciotat is bordered by the mighty seascapes of the Calanques National Park. The scenery is out of this world, whether you see it by car on a twisting coastal road or from below on a sea cruise. The town also has a calmer side where there’s a string of welcoming sandy beaches.
And for an idea of how Provençal La Ciotat is, they even wrote the rules on the iconic game of pétanque here. And that isn’t the only point of pride for the town, as it was a summer home for film pioneers the Lumière Brothers. They shot one of their earliest movies in La Ciotat, and the cinema where they screened it still shows films to this day.

La Ciotat is called La Ciutat or La Ciéutat or Cióutat in Occitan/Provençal/Catalan, meaning the city. It became prominent in the 15th century. La Ciotat was the setting of one of the very first projected motion pictures, L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat filmed by the Lumière brothers in 1895.
Most parts of La Ciotat are covered by its public transport bus service. Although buses are not very frequent, given the small population of the city they serve their purpose. The train station is serviced by route no. 10, 21 and 40 which all go to the La Ciotat downtown station by different routes. Peak time of bus operations are from 8am to 5pm when people are working in the uptown offices of La Ciotat. After 8pm, buses cease their operation. Same is the case on weekends when buses are rare even at the train station.
La Ciotat has an artificial sand beach because of its rocky location. The beach is located downtown and is at walking distance from local market, the ship yards and the main bus station. The beach faces the Alps mountain regions on one side and the uphill commercial area on the other side. Most hotels, restaurants and bars in La Ciotat are located on the same street.

Ses habitants sont appelés les Ciotadens et les Ciotadennes. La Ciotat est l'une des deux seules communes, avec Ceyreste, à être située dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône tout en appartenant à l'unité urbaine de Toulon.
La population de la ville de La Ciotat comptabilise un nombre de 36 441 habitants.

LA CIOTAT
La Ciotat (en provençal, La Ciéutat ou La Ciutat) est une commune française située dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, à 31 kilomètres à l'est de Marseille. Assise au fond d'une baie en croissant, la ville, adossée au Bec de l'Aigle fait face à la mer. Elle est dominée par un vaste plateau calcaire, bordé à l'ouest de hautes falaises tombant directement sur la mer, qui se prolonge au nord par le cap Canaille. Ces dernières, les falaises Soubeyranes, dépassent 390 mètres, ce qui les place en tête des plus hautes de France et parmi les plus hautes falaises maritimes d'Europe.
