This video showcases the combination of a city trip and and action packed day out in the nature. My personal highlight has been the flight in the vertical wind tunnel Aerodium near Sigulda - if you feel like you can even go Bungee Jumping there.

Enjoy Latvian Countryside in Skujene Parish

Skujene Parish is located in Amata district, in the middle of Vidzeme, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, in a sparsely populated place and not known to every Latvian. And that's why this scenic place is attractive and worth discovering! The Amata River flows through it, forests alternate with meadows, farmsteads and fields.
Skujene Parish is actively managed by enterprising people - both locals born and those who have moved from other parts of Latvia. Cone syrup and pickled cones, conifer tea and biscuits, and even conifer pesto as well as conifer soap are made here. Here is the only farm in Latvia that produces biologically certified jelly candies, moreover, with interesting flavors - red clover, chamomile, linden, rye bread, beer. The parish is home to the first company in the Baltics to grow such a non-traditional culture as quinoa and offer it to consumers. Active entrepreneurs successfully form their community by cooperating with each other and organizing joint events to promote the parish.

Latvia is beautiful, and it's time to get acquainted with our cities. Today, we are heading to the amazing city of Cēsis, one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in Latvia.

Cēsis Old Castle: The Cēsis Castle served as the residence of the Livonian Knights for a long time. Today, the castle is open for visits, and tourists can walk through its ancient corridors, climb the towers, and enjoy stunning views of the city and its surroundings.

Cēsis is one of the oldest cities in Latvia, a Hanseatic League city, and one of the residences of the Masters of the Livonian Order. The Gauja River flows past the town. Cēsis is the birthplace of the Latvian flag.

The origin of the city of Cēsis can be traced back 800 years. It is linked to the medieval Cēsis Castle, where the city began to form as early as the 13th century. Throughout the centuries, the castle shared the fate of Cēsis in battles with Russian, Polish, and Swedish armies. Rebuilt and expanded several times, the castle acquired its current architectural appearance in the early 16th century. Nowadays, it is the most impressive ensemble of castle ruins in the Baltic States, attracting visitors with the romantic appeal of medieval architecture.

Historical Heritage: Known in Livonian as Wenden, Cēsis is famous for its rich historical heritage. The city was founded in 1206 and is the third oldest city in Latvia after Riga and Koknese. Its historical center still retains a medieval atmosphere.

Old Town: In the Middle Ages, narrow winding streets with craftsmen's and merchants' houses closely clustered around the Cēsis Castle and church. Today, the old town showcases many historically and architecturally significant houses. On the ground floors of these and other buildings are small shops and various workshops full of creativity.

Modern Life: Despite its historical ambiance, Cēsis is a modern city with developed infrastructure and an active cultural life. Various festivals, concerts, and events take place here, attracting both locals and tourists from around the world. Since the late 19th century and to this day, Cēsis is known as a center of art, culture, and recreation.

Cēsis Festival: Every year, the famous Cēsis Festival is held, gathering thousands of tourists and locals. The festival includes various cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, and medieval reenactments. It's a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past and enjoy the rich culture of the city.

Nature and Parks: Cēsis is surrounded by picturesque nature and beautiful parks. There are also over 10 bodies of water in Cēsis and a clean environment.

Cultural Attractions: Cēsis boasts numerous museums and art galleries. One of the most famous is the Cēsis Museum of History and Art, which holds unique exhibits telling the rich history of the city and the region.

Nationalities and Culture: The residents of Cēsis are people of various nationalities, making the city multinational and culturally diverse. The majority of the population is Latvian, but there are also Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and representatives of other nationalities. The city's population is 16,372 people.

City Location: Cēsis is located in the northern part of the Vidzeme Upland, 90 km from Riga and the same distance from the city of Madona which I showed you in my previous video. Come to the city of Cēsis. It's beautiful here!

Oh my wow, we walked 10 km yesterday 😯

The day was fantastic for such a walk. We visited famous Gūtmaņa cave, caught butterflies and crickets, explored wasps and red ants, then started our challenge of climbing thousands of stairs up and down with 80% inclination 😮

Kids, one pregnant and one with a 6-month-old in her carrier COMPLETED THE CHALLENGE!!! 🤩

The reward was to take a ride in a tiny cute yellow cable car passing river Gauja and unstoppable forests.

Sigulda, we 💕 you.

350 Million Years Of Fossils & Wine Tasting in a Cave: #Travel #Latvia 🇱🇻 | #Ligātne | #Cesis |

Estonia - Latvia Road Trip / Līgatne

About 200 Estonians and Latvians got up early on September 20 to catch their bus for Estonia -- Latvia Road Trip, an event intended to showcase the examples of successful cooperation between the two countries and to celebrate the second European Cooperation Day. Four busses departing from Tallinn, Tartu (pickup also in Valka), Rīga and Alūksne (pickups also in Ape and Voru) drove a total of 1830 km and took participants through Estonia and Latvia. The Road Trip ended with European Cooperation Dinner & Celebration at Zvārtava Castle in Latvia that is located only 5 km from the border with Estonia.

The bus trip participants enjoyed various activities at altogether 17 different places. Estonia -- Latvia Programme part-funded projects exhibited their achievements over the last seven years. Races with model cars, participation in autumn biathlon, trying hand in firefighter craft, tasting local food products, playing autumn hockey, learning how joint prototyping helps with innovative products and showing their artistic skills were just a few activities that the participants could try out during the trip. Throughout the day people could collect stamps for special achievements in their Estonia -- Latvia Road Trip passports, which turned out to be one of the most popular pastimes during the trip on September 20.

In the evening all four busses arrived at Zvārtava Castle -- a location only 5 km from the Estonian border on the Latvian side that previously had been kept a secret from the road trip participants. Participants were served a gourmet meal, prepared by Tallink Hotel Rīga restaurant Elements and chef Svetlana Riškova, as well as had a chance to share their impressions with people from other busses and brainsrorm about new ideas for cooperation. After European Cooperation Dinner's dessert and with the arrival of darkness they also enjoyed the art installations in the Zvārtava Castle and surroundings, prepared by Alexander and Alexander from Tartu, and some music from DJ Ivars from Rīga.

All road trip participants arrived at Zvārtava on one of the busses on four wheels (although Alūksne bus broke down half way and had to be exchanged), but four lucky participants had a choice how to go back home. It came as a big surprise to all the stamp hunters that the main prize for the most successful ones were four bicycles, purchased as used in the Estonia -- Latvia Programme territory, but nicely repaired for the occasion. Marija Novada (Alūksne route), Franciska Maier (Tartu route), Anu Altmets (Tallinn route) and Māra Melbārde (Rīga route) could actually decide after the celebration, how they wanted to get back home -- they had a choice now between the bus and the bicycle.
