KUOPIO FINLAND | A City in the Lakes! 🇫🇮
As my road trip through Finnish Lakeland comes to an end I spend my final day exploring the city of Kuopio in central Finland before driving back to Helsinki to catch my flight home. 🇫🇮 See more of my travel vlogs from Finland here →
After spending a few days in the forests and national parks of eastern Finland it felt peculiar to be back in the city and around so much traffic and noise.
Overnight I stayed in a shared house close to the city centre called ‘120 yrs Old Log House in Kuopio City Centre’ (Myhkyrinkatu) so I start the vlog by giving you a tour of the property. After checking out I walked over to Lake Kallavesi, passing the FloatPlane Centre (Vesilentokeskus Kuopio) and a few waterfront parks on my way.
With the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing I headed inland towards Kuopio city centre and found the picture perfect Kuopio Cathedral (Kuopion Tuomiokirkko) adjacent to Snellman Park (Snellmanin Puisto). I learnt about influential Fennoman Johan Vilhelm Snellman who has his own sculpture in the middle of the park before enjoying a spirited service inside the cathedral.
Next I visited Kuopio Market (Kuopion Tori) with the impressive Kuopio City Hall (Kuopion Kaupunki) at one end and an art nouveau styled market hall at the other. Inside I found about 30 stalls selling meat, fish, cakes, spices and handicraft items. The smell of coffee from the local cafes filled the air!
And with that it was time to make the long drive south to Helsinki to catch my flight back to the UK.
What an incredible week! I loved every second of it (except for maybe the hospital visit 🤕) and I can’t wait to see more of this fascinating country some day in the future. Thanks for joining me and hopefully I’ll catch you in the next country.

Exploring Kuopio Finland 🇫🇮
On our travels across the beautiful countryside of Finland we have found a city called Kuopio. Wow, we are really impressed by the feel of the city, it is sophisticated like Helsinki and also is not too much like a big city with transportation, easy to get around with feeling of spaciousness.
The public toilets we found cost 0.50 euros but a nice man had just came out of the toilet and walked back to put the code in and let me in... how nice is that! whoever you are? you are very nice 😊
The people living in Kuopio seem very friendly and we had a pleasant little visit to this city.
