On the territory of the modern Otradnoye district there were several settlements, the largest of which was the village of Vladykino. To the north of Vladykino was the village of Slobodka, to the east of Slobodka was the village of Kozeyevo. Otradnoe appears on the first comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Moscow, approved on July 10, 1935 by the decision of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks and the USSR Council of People's Commissars № 1435 On the general plan for the reconstruction of Moscow (architects V. N. Semyonov and S. E. Chernyshev). It was planned to include Otradnoe in the boundaries of Moscow. In fact, the area of the future Otradnoe was included in Moscow after the construction of the Moscow Ring Road in 1960.

На территории современного района Отрадное располагалось несколько населённых пунктов, самым крупным из которых было село Владыкино. На север от Владыкина располагалась деревня Слободка, на восток от Слободки — деревня Козеево. Отрадное фигурирует на первом комплексном плане реконструкции Москвы, утверждённом 10 июля 1935 года постановлением ЦК ВКП(б) и СНК СССР № 1435 «О генеральном плане реконструкции города Москвы» (арх. В. Н. Семёнов и С. Е. Чернышёв). На нём планировалось внесение Отрадного в границы Москвы. Фактически же район будущего Отрадного был включён в состав Москвы после строительства МКАД в 1960 году.
