KEY WEST, FLORIDA Top 10 Things to Do - Best Places to Visit and See in Key West, FL

Nestled at the southernmost tip of the United States, Key West, Florida, is a captivating island paradise that beckons travelers with its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and historical significance. Key West is famous for its laid-back atmosphere, stunning sunsets, and lively Duval Street, which is known for its bars, restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. While it offers a unique and alluring experience, some find Key West Florida expensive due to its popularity as a tourist destination. Despite its allure, Key West is not a part of Miami; it's a separate island located about 160 miles southwest of Miami.

When exploring Key West, there are several must-see attractions you shouldn't miss, including the Hemingway House, where the famous author once lived, and the Southernmost Point Buoy, marking the southernmost point of the continental United States. The island is best known for its idyllic beaches, water sports, and rich maritime history. With its charming architecture, clear waters, and vibrant atmosphere, Key West is definitely worth a visit.

For those seeking entertainment, Key West offers a plethora of options. The best places to go out include Sloppy Joe's Bar, a historic hotspot, and Mallory Square, known for its nightly sunset celebration. The island caters to a diverse audience with its array of activities: adults can enjoy sunset cruises and snorkeling, families can explore the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, couples can revel in romantic walks along the beach, and kids can explore the Key West Aquarium.

Key West's charm is accessible on foot, making it a walkable destination. A three-day trip is typically enough to explore its main attractions, and visitors often find that the island offers a unique and enjoyable experience despite being an expensive city. While some might opt for a car to explore the surrounding areas, it's not strictly necessary within the town.

The best time to visit Key West is during the winter months, as the weather is pleasantly warm and there is a lower chance of hurricanes. The Florida Keys, including Key West, are popular for their unique blend of natural beauty, marine life, and water activities. The drive from Miami to Key West is a scenic journey along the Overseas Highway, offering stunning views of the ocean and islands.

Key West has a rich history and has been a popular destination for celebrities and artists over the years. Notable figures like Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, and Jimmy Buffett have frequented the island. While it can be touristy, Key West's charm, cultural heritage, and natural beauty make it an irresistible destination for many.

Titanic Museum, Princess & Kermit At Spot Titanic Was Built, Belfast, Ireland - The Princess Channel

Our Princess and Kermit were so excited to visit the very location where the Titanic was built in Belfast Northern Ireland. The Titanic Museum is built right next to the very site that the historic ship was built. The Titanic Museum has become the most visited destination in Ireland since it was built.
It was so much fun to go through the museum and see all the amazing historical photos and exhibits.

Our princess was also surprised to find out that Belfast used to be called Linenopolis because it used to be the top producer of fine linen in the world.

It was so exciting to see the historical photos of the Titanic being built and to know we were standing on the spot the legendary ship was built.

The RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time she entered service in 1912 and was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line. She was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.

(This is what Wikipedia has to say about the Titanic)...

Titanic was under the command of Captain Edward Smith, who went down with the ship. The ocean liner carried some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as hundreds of emigrants from Great Britain and Ireland, Scandinavia and elsewhere throughout Europe, who were seeking a new life in the United States. The first-class accommodation was designed to be the pinnacle of comfort and luxury, with a gymnasium, swimming pool, libraries, high-class restaurants, and opulent cabins. A high-powered radiotelegraph transmitter was available for sending passenger marconigrams and for the ship's operational use.[6] The Titanic had advanced safety features, such as watertight compartments and remotely activated watertight doors. The ship carried 16 lifeboat davits which could lower three lifeboats each, for a total of 48 boats. However, Titanic carried only a total of 20 lifeboats, four of which were collapsible and proved hard to launch during the sinking.[7] The carried lifeboats were enough for 1,178 people—about half the number on board, and one third of her total capacity—due to the maritime safety regulations of those days. At the time of the sinking, the lowered lifeboats were only about half-filled.

After leaving Southampton on 10 April 1912, Titanic called at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown (now Cobh) in Ireland, before heading west to New York.[8] On 14 April, four days into the crossing and about 375 miles (600 km) south of Newfoundland, she hit an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. ship's time. The collision caused the hull plates to buckle inwards along her starboard (right) side and opened five of her sixteen watertight compartments to the sea; she could only survive four flooding. Meanwhile, passengers and some crew members were evacuated in lifeboats, many of which were launched only partially loaded. A disproportionate number of men were left aboard because of a women and children first protocol for loading lifeboats.[9] At 2:20 am, she broke apart and foundered with well over one thousand people still aboard. Just under two hours after Titanic sank, the Cunard liner RMS Carpathia arrived and brought aboard an estimated 710 survivors.

The disaster was met with worldwide shock and outrage at the huge loss of life, as well as the regulatory and operational failures that led to it. Public inquiries in Britain and the United States led to major improvements in maritime safety. One of their most important legacies was the establishment of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) in 1914, which still governs maritime safety. Several new wireless regulations were passed around the world in an effort to learn from the many missteps in wireless communications—which could have saved many more passengers.[10]

The wreck of Titanic was discovered in 1985 by a Franco-American expedition sponsored by the United States Navy.[11][12] The ship was split in two and is gradually disintegrating at a depth of 12,415 feet (2,069.2 fathoms; 3,784 m). Thousands of artefacts have been recovered and displayed at museums around the world. Titanic has become one of the most famous ships in history, depicted in numerous works of popular culture, including books, folk songs, films, exhibits, and memorials. Titanic is the second largest ocean liner wreck in the world, only being surpassed by her sister ship HMHS Britannic; however, she is the largest sunk while in service as a liner, as Britannic was in use as a hospital ship at the time of her sinking. The final survivor of the sinking, Millvina Dean, aged two months at the time, died in 2009 at the age of 97.
