Kezmarok (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kezmarok in Slovakia.
Kežmarok is located in the north east of Slovakia in front of the fabulous scenery of the High Tatra. The town’s fifteenth century Gothic castle is located at the edge of the Old Town and its external walls form some sections of the city wall. At the beginning of the sixteenth century it was owned by the Thököly family and was given its present day splendour in full Renaissance style. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Kežmarok was a centre of rebellion against the Viennese Emperor. Its Baroque castle chapel is a fine building and was renovated in 1658 at the time of the Protestant Oppression. The castle survived the changing times and is one of the town’s main attractions. In the centre of the old town is the Roman Catholic Holy Cross Basilica with its white façade and tall church tower. Gothic and Renaissance dominate its rich interior. The altars and murals, with figures of the story of the Passion, are one of Slovakia’s most valuable works of art. The highlight is the basilica’s main wing altar that features Christ. The town’s Evangelical-Lutheran congregation had the New Protestant AB Church built between 1872 and 1894. Later followed the annexing of a mausoleum for Imre Thököly, who stood up for religious freedom. It was built according to an unconventional design by Danish architect, Theophil Hansen, who featured Byzantine, Romanesque, Moorish and Oriental elements. Next to it is one of the most beautiful articular churches in Slovakia. The churchs’ treasures include one of the oldest wooden pipe organs, a baptismal font, and splendid altar. These were the directives issued within the framework of the Counter-Reformation of 1681: the Articularies. Built at their own cost, completely made of wood, without a stone foundation and within twelve months, this extraordinary building is one of Kežmarok’s most prized buildings.

Kežmarský hrad, Kežmarok - SLOVAKIA
Kežmarský hrad je jediným úplne zachovaným hradom na Spiši. Prvá písomná zmienka o ňom je z roku 1463. Staviteľmi a prvými majiteľmi hradu boli bratia Imrich a Štefan Zápoľský. V 2. pol. 19. stor. sa objavili prvé snahy o opravu hradu a zriadenie múzea v ňom, no k uskutočneniu tejto myšlienky došlo až v 1. pol. 20. stor. Prvé expozície tu boli otvorené v roku 1931. V súčasnosti sú v ňom sprístupnené historické expozície, dokumentujúce vývoj Kežmarku a okolia.

Slovakia Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Slovakia.
Slovakia has a long and varied history and contains Europe’s youngest capital city and also its highest mountain range, as well as cultural masterpieces and unspoiled nature. Bratislava is located in the heart of Europe and is the capital of Slovakia. Surrounded by the City Hall and several palaces, it is like being taken back in time into a rich and glorious past. On the Danube’s Slovakian side, and to the east, is the town of Komárno. In the old urban market square a Miniature Europe with forty five buildings has, in recent years, come into existence. Towers, domes, arcades, half-timbered buildings and woodcarvings frame the square at whose centre is the Millennium Fountain. It is a unique mixture of architecture that signifies the common culture of European countries. Seven hundred metres above sea level, herds of sheep graze peacefully on the slopes of the Great Fatra, the location of the almost hidden and forgotten Vlkolĺnec, a unique village in the heart of Slovakia’s Liptov region. Today it is tantamount to being an open-air museum. Further north is Terchová, birthplace of Slovakia’s national hero, Juraj Jánošík. The legendary robber chief has an exhibition dedicated to him in which the living conditions and customs of that time are on display. The High Tatra is the smallest high mountain range in Europe. A magnificent mountain landscape with rocky mountains and many lakes. In 1947, the National Park of the same name was founded. Slovakia is a land of fortresses, castles and cities that date from the Middle Ages and, despite its many mountain regions, a southern-influenced way of life.

Levoča is a beautiful medieval city in Slovakia easily recognizable thanks to its burgher houses and large main square. The must-see attraction of Levoča is the gothic Basilica of Saint James built in 14th century where you can find the world’s tallest wooden altar of Master Paul of Levoča. In the town’s main square stands also the Old Town Hall, the gothic Town Hall from 15th century was replaced with a renaissance-style one after a fire. Today it houses a museum focused on the history of the town. The most beautiful facade in the the town has the Thurso‘s house, which used to belong to the most powerful families of Thurso and Csáky. It is the only building in the city with a renaissance attic. Do not miss the iron “Cage of shame” standing next to the Town Hall which used to serve for public punishment of people who did not behave according to the then moral values. Bardejov (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Bardejov in Slovakia.
Bardejov is located in the north east corner of today's Slovakia, close to the Polish border. This old town of cloth merchants was fortified during several construction phases that date back to 1352. Its mediaeval centre was designated as a World Cultural Heritage in the year 2000. Three Gothic buildings became the Town Hall, and several arcades adorn Gründl House. The large market place is popular for all manner of social events, from a weekly market to parades and numerous gatherings, church processions and festivals. The Old Town Hall in the middle of the square dates back to 1505 and is a gem of Late Renaissance design. It contains a richly ornamented bay window with a Hungarian coat of arms as well as Bardejov’s own coat of arms. In 1907 the historic Town Hall became a museum featuring numerous historical exhibits of the town, as well as its arts and crafts. Religious art, wooden altars, sculptures and panel paintings bring to life its mediaeval times. Bardejov is a sparkling gem of history, from its blossoming in the Middle Ages, to war, fire, plague and the Reformation. The old town has managed to survive it all and now shines out as a much-loved treasure of bygone days.

A walking tour recorded in the charming town of Kezmarok in Slovakia with a rich and magnificent history and many monuments that have been the center of education in Spis and the gateway to exploring and studying the High Tatras since ancient times. Thanks to this, the city has favorable conditions for the development of tourism. The town of Kezmarok is located at an altitude of 626 meters above sea level and was founded by combining three estates into an urban complex and obtaining city rights from the Hungarian King Béla IV in 1269. It is worth mentioning that the name of the city comes from the German word Käsemarkt, which means cheese market.
The main and most recognizable monument in the city is its Kezmarok Castle, which is also the only completely preserved castle in Spis. It is located directly in the city to protect against potential enemies, and the first mention of the castle dates back to around 1463.
The video was recorded in beatifull and warm day on May 2023. Enjoy watching the walking tour in 4K Ultra HD quality!

Kieżmark. Kiezmark. Kežmarok. Késmárk. Käsmark. Kesmark. Słowacja. Slovensko. Slovakia.
Miasto powiatowe w Słowacji, w kraju preszowskim, w historycznym regionie Spisz.
Elżbiety (w widłach Popradu i Ľubicy, w miejscu dzisiejszego zamku).
