Kathu - Driving around town - Northern Cape, South Africa
I recently travelled to a number of towns in the Northern Cape. One of my stops was in the town of Kathu. Kathu is a mining town situated some 6h45min (579km) from Johannesburg. The town has a major iron ore industry, with one of biggest iron ore mines globally. It's a beatiful clean looking town. The town also has a golf course, sports and recreation facilities, game reserve as well the Kathu Forest.
Kathu Mining Museum - Phuket
Although Phuket is renowned as the epicentre of tourism in Southeast Asia, prior to the 21st century it was tin mining which held the honour as being responsible for Phuket's economic growth and development. The Kathu Tin Mining Museum celebrates the history of tin mining in Phuket.
Among the exhibits in the museum you can find• various tin mining processes • demonstration of smeltery and products made out of brut tin • the journey of Chinese merchants • a reconstructed Kathu village complete with shops and a walk in the mine's landscapes.

The church has been dubbed 'the cathedral of Bushmanland' due to its huge size. It is known for date palms that still exist today. It is only 18km off the highway and well worth the trip. Pofadder Inn is a stunningly beautiful hotel set in a small town with historic buildings and lots of character. The scenery surrounding it is equally gorgeous. Flat open roads where you can see forever. At Kakamas Hotel you can explore distilleries and wineries along the Orange River. There are few places on earth that are more beautiful than the Northern Cape. Perhaps its most prized attraction is Augrabies Falls National Park – a sprawling reserve of sandstone outcroppings set against some of the country’s most picturesque scenery including the Augrabies Water Falls. You have to stop at the Pienk Padstal in Kakamas. Kathu Inn is a comfortable home away from home. It has an excellent reputation for good service and good food. If you are travelling on Route N14 and need to stop over it would be worth stopping here to refresh yourself before moving on. From here you can fly out of Upington depending on how long you want your road trip to last. Or you can continue to drive back towards Cape Town and stop over at Calvinia Hotel. Hi all I was in the Kgalagadi from the 17-22 March as a belated birthday trip. March is green season in the Kgalagadi still but the lack of rain and high temperatures meant the park was looking quite dry still, with a few patches of longer grass. A good first afternoon in the park after a long drive in.

Cnr Rietbok & Ben Alberts Way, Kathu
Situated on the corner of Rietbok Street and Ben Alberts Way, this centre is home to Shoprite, Shoprite Liquors and Hungry Lion. The Shoprite measures 3805m² and the Liquor store 169m². The Hungry Lion measures 174m² and the lease expires end July 2021. The centre therefore offers a total GLA of 4148m². This single storey centre is of a somewhat dated design in terms of architecture. There is adequate public parking and the centre is well supported within the town.
Please note that the seller will enter into a new 10 year lease for Shoprite with the Purchaser on transfer of the property. The lease will contain three 5 year renewal periods on the same terms.
