This country surprised us, we weren't really sure what to expect here but ended up being surprised and so much more. How great is that? Lonely Planet just voted Botswana as the top destination to visit in 2016, with good reason.

We bush camped in the Okavango Delta, slept among elephants and had a fantastic river safari in Chobe National Park. Our only regret? That we didn't have more days to spend here!

Botswana: Where to go and what to see

Virtually synonymous with the Kalahari Desert, much of Botswana is flat and dry, covered in thorny acacia trees and home to enormous salt pans and rolling grasslands. Rainfall is highest in northern Botswana where vast open woodlands dominate the environment and several globally important wetland habitats - the Okavango Delta, the Linyanti Swamps and the Chobe River - support huge numbers of animals.
Botswana is a haven for wildlife and several of its protected areas - the Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve in particular - rank among Africa's best game-viewing destinations. Botswana's Kalahari parks are some of the wildest and least developed in the region but offer excellent opportunities for game viewing, especially in early summer when several local zebra migrations occur.

Botswana's wildlife highlights include Africa's greatest concentrations of elephant, fantastic bird watching, abundant predators and the continent's largest population of African wild dog. Botswana's lions are particularly famous for their size and their ability to prey on large animals such as hippo, buffalo and even young elephants.

The evergreen jewel of the Okavango Delta is at the heart of Botswana’s safari attractions, flanked in the east by the rolling savannah of the Savuti and the teeming elephant paradise of the Chobe.

Amazing Places You Must Visit in Botswana - HD Drone Safari View

You do no want to miss today's drone view of fascinating places in Botswana! Botswana has a huge advantage over the rest of the world when it comes to attracting tourists: the wildlife. The array of animals that reside in or pass through the country is phenomenal. Ranging from endangered animals such as wild dogs and rhinos to the numerous and thriving bird life that inhabits the area.

Don't forget to subscribe so that you can watch new videos posted daily.

Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta is one of the most inspiring and awe-inspiring wilderness locations in Africa, if not the entire planet. The Delta is a truely unspoiled wilderness with terrain ranging from dry grasslands to swamps. Safaris and game watching are the most popular activities in the park and possible animals to be sighted include cheetahs, zebra, giraffes, elephants, crocodiles and rhinos to name only a few. Trips should be properly planned because, although the terrain here is always stunning, the seasons can dramatically effect your chances of seeing certain animals.

Moremi Game Reserve
Voted the best game reserve in the African continent in 2008, this park has a lot going for it. It is the first reserve that was solely founded by local residents who were growing ever more concerened about natural and man-made threats to the local enviroment and wildlife. Situated on the east side of the Okavango Delta, the reserve offers some of the most stunning scenery in the country and boasts an equally impressive ecosystem. Many tourists choose to visit the park by self-drive campervan but the park also has a number of great campsites.

Kasane
Kasane is situated between the Four Corners of Africa; where Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zamibia meet. It is a great spot to stay for visits to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe or Botswana’s own Chobe National Park. The town’s own attractions include a huge Baobab tree that was once used as a prison due to its trunk that is so large a human can enter. There is also a snake park that houses around 50 snakes from 17 different species. The town is also wonderfully situated for exploring the Chobe River.

Maun
Maun is often used by tourists as a stepping stone for the Okavango Delta but it has enough about it to merit a few nights stay. The hotels, restaurants and tourist amenities here are some of the best in the country, largely due to the fact that the city is the main tourist stop in the country. Whilst the town itself does not have much going for it, it still attracts a wide range of people from luxury safari travelers to volounteers. There are some great campsites that are located by the river, providing a great place to stay for a few nights.

Gaborone
The city of Gaborone is the largest in Botswana and also its capital. The modern buildings of Gaborone set against the tropical backdrops of this African nation are an unusual sight and despite its size, there are not too many reasons to visit the city. The large residential areas are supplemented by a few decent hotels and restaurants. The modern feel of the city is reinforced by its lack of history but it is certainly paving the way for the countries future and for this reason it is a good place to experience the vibe of 21st Century Botswana.

Chobe National Park
This game reserve is the third largest in Botswana but it has one of the largest concentrations of rare game animals in the continent of Africa. The national park takes its name from the Chobe River which, at first glance is guaranteed to take your breathe away. As well as being a beautiful sight, the river supports an ecosystem of rare and exotic creatures including birds, elephants, lions, giraffes, baboons and buffalo. During the winter season it is possible to see a herd of hundreds of elephants at a time; a truely once in a lifetime experience.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park
The name may be a mouthful but the reasons to visit Makgadikgadi Pans National Park are simple. The park stretches from the Boteti River and for this reason supports a vast and diverse ecosystem. The wildlife is particularly varied in the dry season when animals come from miles around to the river which is the only source of water for a long way.

Top 5 Places To Visit in BOTSWANA | Africa Safari

#botswana #africa #africasafari

Here are the top attractions in Botswana Africa

THE OKAVANGO DELTA

The Okavango Delta, one of the largest freshwater wetlands and inland deltas, remains an extensive and unspoiled wilderness area that has garnered global acclaim. In addition to being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Delta earned a spot among the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in 2013.

Spanning between 6,000 and 15,000 square kilometers of the Kalahari Desert in northern Botswana, the Okavango Delta owes its existence to the Okavango (Kavango) River. This remarkable river traverses the heart of the Kalahari Desert, creating a unique inland water system that sustains a rich diversity of bird and wildlife species, as well as the Okavango Delta's dynamic ecosystem.

CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Chobe National Park is situated within the Okavango Delta in Botswana and encompasses four distinct ecological systems. It is a renowned destination that boasts over 120,000 African elephants, making it one of the top places on earth to witness these majestic animals in their natural habitat. The optimal time to observe these gentle giants of the African bushveld is during the dry season, which falls between May and September, when huge herds gather along the banks of the Chobe River for spectacular sightings.

The untainted wilderness of Chobe National Park not only hosts the world’s largest group of African elephants but also a vast variety of wildlife and birdlife, including numerous buffalo. The Savuti Marsh is known for its incredible wildlife concentration throughout the year, making it one of the best destinations to observe animals in Africa.

Mashatu Game Reserve

Situated in eastern Botswana, the Tuli Block is an awe-inspiring expanse of land that borders South Africa and Zimbabwe, where the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers converge. It is a region replete with abundant wildlife, featuring towering baobab trees, thick riverine forests and dramatic rocky landscapes. In the past, the Tuli Block was comprised of private farms, but it was transformed into a well-maintained conservation area and wildlife sanctuary a few decades ago. Today, the Tuli Block comprises of numerous reserves, including the Mashatu Game Reserve and the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, which is one of the largest privately-owned game reserves in Southern Africa.

MAKGADIKGADI SALT PANS

Makgadikgadi, one of the world's largest salt pans, was formerly a lake spanning an immense 10,000 square kilometers in the north-eastern region of Botswana. Despite its arid and fissured appearance, visitors to this extraordinary part of Botswana will be pleasantly surprised by the abundant wildlife that inhabits it.

In the summer, the bleak and parched landscape of Makgadikgadi transforms into a thriving grassland, which attracts a diverse range of wildlife, including springbok, wildebeest, and zebra, as well as lion and cheetah. Countless flamingos flock to the shallow waters that flood the vast salt pans, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

MOREMI GAME RESERVE

The Moremi Game Reserve, also called the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, is a small yet significant reserve located in Botswana. It covers one third of the Okavango Delta and is adjacent to the Chobe National Park. The reserve is known for its vast diversity and high concentration of African wildlife, which makes it a top tourist attraction in Botswana for wildlife enthusiasts.

The Moremi Game Reserve and its neighboring private land concessions in the Okavango are known for providing an exceptional environment to see rare wildlife species in their natural habitat. This includes the endangered Wild Dogs as well as other unique species such as the Black-maned Kalahari Lion, Sitatunga, Puku and Red Lechwe antelope, Brown Hyena, the African Skimmer and Aardvark.

MOWANA SAFARI LODGE KASANE CHOBE NATIONAL PARK BOTSWANA

МОВАНА САФАРИ ЛОДЖ КАСАНЕ ЧОБЕ БОТСВАНА

Mowana Lodge:

Mowana Safari Lodge lies on the banks of the Chobe river, where four African countries (Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe) meet. At this point the Chobe and Zambezi rivers converge – the Zambezi river being the home of the NyamiNyami (or river god). So if you want to learn more about African myths and legends, the Chobe area around the Mowana Safari Lodge is the place to visit!

The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population – it is said that 45 000 of these interesting creatures roam the plains of Chobe. They share the area of almost 10 000 square kilometres with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park.

The luxurious Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa near the Chobe Game Reserve is a four-star establishment. Guests are accommodated in 112 luxury rooms and 4 suites (all en suite and air-conditioned).

All rooms and suites face the Chobe river and are equipped with tea/coffee-making facilities, ceiling fans, mini bars, hairdryers as well as mosquito nets and electric insect repellents. Rooms and suites at the Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa also have satellite television and direct dial phone.

The Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa near the Chobe Game Reserve also offers safety deposit boxes, same day laundry and valet service, limited room service as well as airport transfer shuttle.

Jacuzzi and infinity pools. River views and roaming elephants. A hair dressing salon in a tree house and a golf course. Traditional canoe trips and nature walks. Here at Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa, they all go hand in hand. Contemporary luxury meets old traditions and myths. The lobby is raised around an almost thousand-year-old baobab tree (which is beautifully lit up at night) and the resort is named after it. Did you know there are countless legends about these giant trees? The helpful and knowledgeable staff at this lodge are more than happy to share a few with you, all you need to do is ask - preferably on a warm night under a star-studded sky. Mowana Safari Lodge lies on the banks of the Chobe River, where four African countries - Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe - meet. The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population: almost 45,000 of these pachydermal giants roam the plains of Chobe. And they are not alone, as they share the area with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, and approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park.
