WELCOME TO KARBALA, IRAQ. This is the site of the world's largest pilgrimage, where every October, over 15 MILLION Shia Muslims walk from neighboring countries to show respect to Imam Hussain's shrine (grandson of prophet Muhammad). Even though I am not visiting in October, I can feel the spirit in the air unlike any place I've ever been.

The mosques and mausoleums are STUNNING, and somehow, I got special VIP access into the back room to meet with the boss... and he gave me permission to film inside. This kind of permission is unheard of!

But my favorite thing about Karbala is the hospitality. You've probably noticed a theme by now - that the Middle East has the most hospitable people in the world and a perfect example of this is Karbala!

The main mosque provides hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of FREE meals to anyone who stops by. I've never seen anything like it in my life... And not only that, but the local people will open their doors to all visitors.

We randomly got invited into a family's home where they cooked us a 10 course meal.

The Mansion of an Armenian Merchant in Mardin

Not much is known about the owner other than an inscription that says it was built in 1874. They were deported in 1915 to never return. The house is large with many rooms. Views of the Mesopotamian plains too.

The chief architect who built this and a lot of the amazing buildings in Mardin was Sarkis Lole, an Armenian Ottoman master architect.

Kambia Beach, Santorini | Couldn't Find the WHITE BEACH!!

I was actually looking for the White Beach but came across this little secluded beach. I'm not a fan of stoney beaches but the drive to and from Kambia beach, made it worth the trip. To get to the White Beach, you have to take a water taxi from the nearby Red Beach.

Gevale Kalesi, Konya kent merkezine yaklaşık 10 km. uzaklıktaki 1675 m. yüksekliğe sahip olan Takkeli Dağ’ın zirvesinde yer almaktadır. Gevale Kalesi’nin burçları uzaktan takke gibi göründüğü için halk tarafından Takkeli Dağ’da denilmektedir. Kuzeyindeki Büyük Gevale (Büyük Sarıklı) dağ ise 1750 m. yüksekliğindedir.

Gevale Adının Kökeni

Gevale isminin kaynağı ve kullanımı konusunda çeşitli görüşler ve kullanımlar bulunmaktadır. İ. Hakkı Konyalı, Gevale isminin Friglerin dişi yer tanrısı olan Cybele’den geldiğini söyler. Bu isim çeşitli dillerde harflerin farklı şekillerde okunması ve değiştirilmesi ile Sibel, Sibele, Kübel, Kübele, Küvel, Küvele, Kiveli, Kivele, Kevele, Kebele, Hubel, Hobal gibi bazen de kelimenin birinci harfi biraz yumuşatılarak Gevale ve Gebeie gibi okunmuştur. Bu kalenin kuzeydoğusunda bulunan ve bölgeye yakın bir yerleşim yeri olan Silleliler ise Gevelle veya Gevale olarak adlandırmışlardır. Kalenin burçları, uzaktan takke gibi göründüğü için bu dağa Takkeli Dağ’da denilmektedir.
Gevale adı tarihi kaynaklarda ve seyahatnamelerde ise farklı şekillerde geçmektedir. İbn-i Bibi, Ahmet Eflâkî, Hoca Sadeddin Efendi’nin eserlerinde Gevale olarak geçerken, diğer yayınlarda Kevele, Kirale, Gavele, Kaballa, Kevale, Kavala ve Kabala, Gâvele gibi çeşitli şekillerde kullanılmıştır.
