Rayakottai, also spelled Rayakotta, is a town in Denkanikottai taluk, Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu. It is 73 kilometres (45 mi) from Bangalore.It has a fort, probably used as military outpost in medieval times & also famous for trekking. There is a mysterious cave temple in Royakkottai, which is silent & scary. Royakkottai is a perfect destination for weekend trips, easier trekking & ofcourse for nature beauty.

HISTORY
The Krishnagiri Dam is a dam that spans the Thenpennai River by the village of Dhuduganahalli , located in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, India. The Krishnagiri Dam is also known as Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP) Dam. The KRP Dam is located 7 km from Krishnagiri, between Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri which irrigates thousands of acres of land around Krishnagiri.
The Dam is operational from 10 November 1957, inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K. Kamaraj.
The KRP Dam Park near the KRP Dam is developed and maintained by Tamil Nadu Public Works Department. This is a famous tourist spot. This dam is flooded with tourists during the weekends.
The entry ticket for a person is ₹5. There is two wheeler and four wheeler parking facility available near the park. There are monkeys around the park. The park has children's play area, fountains, lawn and jogger footpath. The KRP Dam and the park is suitable to visit throughout the year. The park is open all days of the week.

Rayakottai fort is in the town of Denkanikottai, part of Krishnagiri district in Tamilnadu. It is just around 70 kms from Bangalore which makes it very much reachable. The trek to the fort on the hill top makes a great one day trip and a best weekend getaway. One of the best Treks around Bangalore with less crowd and relatively easy path.
The fort is one of the ancient fortress in the Krishnagiri district. It is now one of the protected monuments by the Archaeological Survey of India. Initially constructed by King Krishnadevaraya and later, in the 18th century Hyder Ali and Tipu sultan ruled from this fort. The fort was captured by Major Gowdie during the third Anglo-Mysore War in 1791. According to the Treaty of Srirangapatna, this fort came into the hands of the British.
