Aayiram Jannal Veedu is a famous landmark in the town of Karaikudi. The literal translation of the name of the place means the house with a thousand windows; a very apt name for a house that has a thousand windows! The house is very popular among tourists who make it a point to visit the place when in Karaikudi. In fact, once in the town, simply ask anyone for directions to the house. Built in 1941 on 20,000 square feet of area, the house is very spacious and cost one lakh 25 thousand at the time, a meagre sum of money now. The house has 25 huge rooms and five very large halls. There are some 20 doors in the house, along with 1000 windows. The first thing that strikes one when one enters the house is that the original style of architecture and grandeur still remain intact.

Athangudi village is located in Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu, about 24 km from Karaikudi city. This palace is located in this town in Chettinad region.
Chettinad houses are found in areas like Karaikudi, Pallathur, Athangudi and Gothamangalam areas in Tamil Nadu. They are located like a palace. They are famous for their richly carved and imported wood and glass work.
It is said that there are 7000 bungalows in Chettinad with world class architecture. 80 to more than 200 years old, these palaces, known as Chettinad bungalows, are newly renovated and very majestic. The people of Chettinad region have traveled to many countries and traded across seas. However, in their hometown, they have carefully learned the architectural arts of the countries they have visited and have built very large palace buildings in opposition to the world-class architecture. To build them, they used a mixture of lime, black cardamom, mustard seeds ground into a check and mixed with egg white. It is these elements that give luster and strength to the walls of the palace. A small bungalow 40 feet wide and 120 feet long and a palace-like bungalow 60 feet wide and 200 feet long are artistically constructed on a site considered to be an important feature of the area. They are set up to be comfortable without a fan. Some of the palaces have to walk half a km to enter the front door and exit through the back door. The entrance gate of the bungalow is made of Burma teak. On the floor there are marbles brought from the 'Dutch' country. They also inlaid stones called Athangudi tiles. The interior roof of the bungalow is made of teak in the shape of a crescent moon. Sculptures such as yazhi and elephant in them are located to attract the viewers. On the roof wall, paintings similar to Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple and Rameswaram Temple are painted. They express their commitment to spiritual tourism and 'Pachilai Ovyam' expresses their spiritual commitment. On the ground floor, Japanese 'flower'-style stones set on the walls add to the beauty. The roof of the room is covered with teak wood. The 'borusu' wooden pillars supporting them look majestic. London tiles installed on the roof collect the rainwater collected during the rainy season in a man-high geyser without wasting it. They have introduced rain water harvesting centuries ago.

Sivaganga is a town in the Sivaganga district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is also the headquarters of the Sivaganga District. The town is located at a distance of 48 km (30 mi) from Madurai and 449 km (279 mi) from the state capital Chennai. It is an important town in this district for official and commercial purpose. Sivagangai kingdom was founded by Sasivarna Periya Oodaya Thevar in 1730. The town was subsequently ruled by his successors and ultimately by Velu Nachiyar under the stewardship of Maruthu Pandiyar. They were against the British Empire, but ultimately lost to them in 1790. The Company appointed Gowry Vallaba Periya Oodaya Thevar as the Zamindar of Sivaganga in 1801, whose successors continued with chaos until India's independence in 1947. It was under Ramnad district until 1984 and subsequently a part of the newly formed Sivaganga district. The town is known for agriculture, metal working and weaving. The region around Sivaganga has considerable mineral deposits. Sivaganga is administered by a municipality established in 1965. As of 2011, the municipality covered an area of 7.97 km2 (3.08 sq mi) and had a population of 92.329 Sivagangai comes under the Sivaganga assembly constituency which elects a member to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly once every five years and it is a part of the Sivaganga constituency which elects its Member of Parliament (MP) once in five years. Roadways are the major mode of transportation to the town and it also has rail connectivity. The nearest seaport, Thoothukudi Port, is located 189 km (117 mi) from Sivaganga, while the nearest airport, Madurai International Airport, is located 53 km (33 mi) from the town. Sivaganga District is an administrative district in Tamil Nadu state. Sivaganga is the district headquarters.It is bounded by Pudukkottai district on the Northeast, Tiruchirapalli district on the North, Ramanathapuram district on South East, Virudhunagar district on South West and Madurai District on the West. The famous towns are Karaikudi, Manamadurai, Sivaganga, Devakottai, Tirupattur, Kalayar Kovil. As of 2011, the district had a population of 1,339,101 with a sex-ratio of 1,003 females for every 1,000 males.
