Tula Ruins, Grutas Tolantongo, and Volcanos! Mexico City Road Trip 2023
Amelia and I went on a 1000 km road trip around Mexico City, Hidalgo, Puebla, and Morelos seeing tons of new landscapes and views that we had never before seen!
Mexico City had a lot of hustle and bustle was felt so safe and inviting the whole time we were there. The food was AMAZING and the subway system was so easy to use.
Mineral del Monte and Mineral del Chico were both such cute little mountain towns that were so chill and quaint. Never pass up the opportunity to get a piping hot Marquesita with Nutella and cream cheese there!
Las Grutas Tolantongo was a great day trip to go swim and soak and see some awesome mountains too!
Puebla, Cholula, Chalcatzingo, Tepoztlan, and Cuernavaca all had fun ruins and great cathedrals too!

The City of Flowers! Atlixco, Puebla (Mexico Travel Vlog)
During our stay in Puebla, we had to make a day trip out to Atlixco. This Pueblo Magico is known for its cultivation of flowers and is often called Atlixco de las Flores meaning Atlixco of the Flowers! Atlixco sits at the base of several volcanoes, one being Mexico's second tallest volcano, Popocatépetl.
Unfortunately, when we were in Atlixco the weather was cloudy and overcast for most of the day so we weren't able to see the volcanoes. Nonetheless, this city did not disappoint! Between all of the murals and painted staircases, delicious food, and colorful narrow streets, our favorite attraction was the swing on Cerro de San Miguel. Cerro de San Miguel is a hill that sits in the middle of Atlixco that offers multiple viewpoints of the city, a stunning view of the mountains and volcanoes (on a clear day), a beautiful church, and a swing that soars over the city!
Getting to Atlixco from Puebla City was very easy! We took the Oro bus for only 35 pesos per person (one way). Puebla City has three Oro terminals and this website will help you find the station that is closest to you!

La Ex-Hacienda de Chautla es un lugar mágico, si tienes la oportunidad de ir no te arrepentirás.
Un lugar bastante tranquilo, un sitio agradable para pasar una tarde bonita, un lugar para relajarte, donde puedes hacer un día de campo, tirolesa, paseos en lancha, pescar o simplemente ir a comer con tu familia, o pareja.
Además de eso, la atracción principal “El castillo de Gillow” Un castillo rodeado de un lago y de bosques, con una mirada increíble hacia los volcanes, un hermoso lugar, sin duda ninguna.
Ahora bien, si vas a Puebla, sería un pecado no visitar Atlixco, mejor conocido como “Atlixco de las flores”, un Pueblo Mágico Perfecto, una ciudad cubierta de flores, de la que el sol parece estar enamorado. Gracias a su buen clima todo el año, las flores siempre están coloridas, el sol brilla y siempre verás un verdor intenso en sus frondosos árboles. Este clima es gracias a los volcanes que lo rodean.

*Cómo llegar a Yecapitxla
Si vienes en auto desde la CDMX toma la autopista México - Cuernavaca 95D y Tepoztlán- Cuautla/México 115 D hacia Cuautla- Izúcar de Matamoros/ Cuautla Jantetelco/México 160. Continúa por Cuautla-Izucar de Matamos/México 160, camino real San Marcos Yecapixtla.
O si estás en Cuautla y quieres conocer Yecapixtla puedes tomar una combi que te deja en el centro del pueblo.
*Qué hacer en Yecapixtla
La cecina no lo es todo en Yecapixtla, hay más actividades y rinconcitos por conocer del pueblo, por ejemplo:
-Ex Convento de San Juan Bautista
Es un monumento del siglo XVI muy importante en Yecapixtla perteneciente a la orden de los agustinos y fue fundado por Jorge de Ávila. Actualmente solo se puede entrar a misa al atrio porque la iglesia quedó muy dañada después del terremoto del 19 de septiembre. Pero aún así se puede apreciar por afuera y sigue siendo impresionante por el recibimiento que da cuando uno va llegando a Yecapixtla.
-Zócalo Municipal
Es la plaza principal en la que familias, parejas y jóvenes van a pasar un rato tranquilo a tomar un helado, a jugar, a dar la vuelta y por lo regular van por las tardes ya que el calor ha disminuido.
Ahí mismo se encuentra el Centro de Interpretación donde pueden ver una pequeña exposición de Yecapixtla.
-Tianguis Artesanal
Este se coloca todos los fines de semana sobre la calle principal de Yecapixtla, aquí encuentras diferentes tipos de artesanías del municipio, ropa, zapatos, nieves, dulces típicos y productos naturales.
-Mercado Municipal
Hay muchos restaurantes donde comer la cecina pero el mercado también es una buena opción para hacerlo, hay muchísimos puestos que la ofrecen, ahora sí que depende de cuál te llame la atención y también pregunta el precio antes de decidirte por uno. Por lo regular cada uno ofrece una taco de prueba de la carne que ellos ofrecen.
-Paseo en cuatrimotos por la Ruta del Café Si quieres algo diferente te sugerimos tomar un tour por la Ruta del Café en cuatrimoto, tiene un costo de $450 pesos por dos personas. Incluye explicación de la elaboración del café, hidratación, seguro durante el recorrido, guía turístico y una prueba del café en la casa que se visita.
