The sole purpose of this channel is to promote Uzbekistan! --- The town of Jizzakh lies at the northern foot of Nuratau mountains, in the southern part of the Hungry Steppe, near the Sanzar River. The town was founded in the 10th century as a staging post on the Silk Road. The trade route from Ustrushana passing through Jizzakh was one of the most important in the Silk Road for the Ustrushan nephritis, so popular in the West.
Jizzakh is located in a beautiful place. On the one hand, there are severe mountains of Nurata, at the foot of which the Sanzar River flows, on the other hand, there is the Hungry Steppe, which seems endless. The peculiar nature of Jizzakh features a variety of natural landscapes, which combine the unique elements of shape and climate. Favorable geographical conditions contributed to the foundation of ancient settlements and fortresses. Today you can find ruins of these settlements traveling along the Sanzar river.
Jizzakh could rightly be considered one of the busiest trade cities on the Silk Road. In the Middle Ages Mirasmand near Jizzakh was famous for the international bazaar trading with woolen fabrics and clothing, silk fabrics, jewelry, and metal items and Ustrushan nephritis. For centuries, people have mined the iron ore in the Nuratau Mountains, so even today you can find remnants of ancient sites and settlements of the miners.
Jizzakh is translated from Sogdian as a fortress or small fort, which describes the history of this town. Jizzakh, like many other cities in Central Asia, had to endure a lot of conquests, but every time it was rebuilt. The Mongol invasion almost completely destroyed the fortresses of the town. During the reign of Tamerlane, the town was rebuilt and became even greater than in former times. But it did not stop Sheybanikhan to destroy it during the conquest of Mawarannahr.
Today mountain woodland of Zaamin and Bakhmal with their breathtaking canyons and swift mountain streams are a paradise for active tourists and extreme enthusiasts.

Iqlimi keskin kontinental. Yanv. ning oʻrtacha t-rasi 1,5°, minimum t-ra —35°, iyulning oʻrtacha t-rasi 28,5°, maksimum t-ra —46°.
Yunon solnomachilari Kiropol va Gazoni alohida tilga olishadi. Arxeologlar Gazo sh. ning oʻrnini aniq va asosli tayin etmasalarda, tarixiy manbalarda uni Samarqand va Toshkent oraligʻida joylashganligi aytiladi. Olimlar Gazoni kad. Jizzax deb taxmin qiladilar. Toponimist olimlar Jizzax nomini sugʻdiycha «Dizak» («qalʼacha») soʻzi b-n bogʻlaydilar. Tarixda u Dizax nomi b-n yuritilgan.
J. Oʻrta Osiyodan oʻtgan bir necha qad. karvon yoʻlining tutashgan joyida vujudga kelgan. Yozma manbalarda ilk bor arab geograf olimlari va sayyoxlaridan Ibn Havkal va Muqaddasiplarning asarlarida Ustrushonaning Faknon viloyatidagi shaxar deb tilga olinadi. Shahar arablar istilosidan oldin ham mavjud boʻlgan.
Jizzax 9—10-a. larda somoniylar, 11 — 13-a. boshida qoraxoniylar, Xorazm shohlar davlati, 14 — 15-a. larda temuriylar davlati, 16—18-a. 1-yarmida Buxoro xonligi, 18-a. 2-yarmidan 1866-y. gacha Buxoro amirligiga tobe boʻlgan. Shahar bir necha marta inqirozga uchrab, yana qayta tiklangan. 16—17-a. larda aholi hoz. eski bozordagi Oʻratepaga koʻchgan. 19a. 60-y. larida u xam xarobaga aylangan. Keyinchalik yana tiklangan. 19-a. 2-yarmidan Turkiston general gubernatorligi tarkibiga kiritilgan. Jizzaxda tegirmon, juvozxona, temirchilik ustaxonalari, kulolchilik korxonalari va b. ishlab turgan. Jizzax to Gulistan.
Today we covered 110 km which is our longest distance in a single day. The conditions however were favourable with flat roads and light winds so it didn’t require too much effort. We are now dividing our day into three cycling sessions. 40 km before breakfast, 40 more until lunch and then the remaining 30 km after a long rest at midday. The sun is quite strong so we avoid cycling between 12:00 - 15:00.

500 grams (about 4 cups) all-purpose flour 250 ml (about 1 cup) water, room temperature 1 teaspoon salt 100 grams (7 tablespoons) butter or lamb fat, melted (for layering) For the Filling:
500 grams (about 1 lb) lamb or beef, finely diced (use a mix of meat and fat for authenticity) 2-3 medium onions, finely chopped 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste) 1 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground) 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon ground coriander (optional) For Topping:
1 egg yolk, beaten (for brushing) Sesame seeds or nigella seeds for garnish (optional) Instructions: Prepare the Dough:
Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, elastic dough. Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes, covered with a damp cloth. Prepare the Filling:
Combine the diced meat, chopped onions, salt, black pepper, cumin seeds, and ground coriander. Mix well and set aside. Rolling and Layering the Dough:
Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll each portion into a thin rectangular sheet (about 1-2 mm thick). Brush the rolled-out dough generously with melted butter or lamb fat. Roll the dough sheet into a tight log, starting from one end, to form layers. Repeat for the second portion of the dough. Cut the rolled dough into 5-7 cm (2-3 inch) wide pieces, and flatten each piece slightly. Shaping the Samsa:
Roll out each cut piece into a circle, about 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. Place 1-2 tablespoons of filling in the center of each circle. Fold the edges to form a triangle or square shape, pinching the seams together to seal well. Baking the Samsa:
Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) or heat a tandoor if available. Place the samsa on a baking sheet, brush the tops with beaten egg yolk, and sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. In a tandoor, they cook faster, usually around 15-20 minutes.

Welcome to Jizzakh Region – one of unique regions of Uzbekistan. It is located in the center-east of the country and borders with Tajikistan to the south. Visit Zaamin National Park, formerly Guralash Preserve, on the western slopes of the Turkestan Range and known for its unique fauna and flora, is also within the region. The fabulous landscapes and the purest mountain air, a variety of fauna and flora, the ancient places for pilgrimage and a unique national health resort all are Zaamin. Also in the reserve, you can find mountain ranges, gorges and hills. The highest part of the mountain range is Shaukartau Mount with a height of more than 4000 meters. The significant places of this park include “Boboyongok” – an ancient hazel, which, according to rough estimates, is about 700 years old. Its height is 20 meters, and it reaches almost 3 meters in diameter. A very interesting cave was found in a local village not far from the reserve. In its bowels, the archaeologists found the tools of primitive people. The walls of the cave are decorated with drawings. “Zaamin” sanatorium and several other rest houses and children’s camps are also located on the territory of the reserve.
