Walking Around Kinmen's Jincheng (Kinmen, Taiwan)
Jincheng Township / 金城鎮 is an urban township on the southwestern corner of the island of Kinmen (Quemoy) and is the county seat of Kinmen County.
The town contains Jicheng Old Street for food and Mofan Street / 模範街 which means Model Street - its name comes from the uniform hybrid architecture of Chinese and Western styles. The construction of the street started in 1924 when the President of Kinmen Junior Chamber Fu His-chi held a fundraising drive among overseas Chinese. The street was completed in 1925. The 75 meter long street features buildings with brick exteriors and arched door fronts modeled after the Japanese, Fujian and Western architecture. There are 16 buildings at each side connected by a common arcade.
The Kinmen Military Headquarters of Qing Dynasty / 清金門鎮總兵署 is also a museum in Jincheng Township. The building was originally built as a study place for a scholar during the Ming Dynasty under the name Cong Qing Xuan. It was then transformed into the Kinmen Military Headquarters of Qing Dynasty during the rule of the Kangxi Emperor when Commander of Kinmen relocated his office from Jinmencheng to Jincheng due to a situation change and loss of population in Jinmencheng.
After the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912, the office building had been used for several different purposes, from Kinmen County Government, Defense Headquarter, Fujian Provincial Government and Kinmen Political Committee during the Taiwan Strait Crisis. In 1995, the Kinmen County Police Department and Tentative County Assembly were relocated to other place.
The building is a four-section house with three courtyards in between. The front courtyard spans over a wide area with a Leafy Banyan trees. At the back lies the centuries-old ceiba tree.

Cheap Hotel in Taiwan, Jincheng, Kinmen Island
This is probably the cheapest hotel in Jincheng, the biggest city on Taiwan's Kinmen Island. Hotels are not cheap here. I got this room for 750 Taiwan Dollars, or around $25.

{Trip} Taiwan Travel -- KINMEN Trip Day 1 / 金門之旅
Quick look at what we did in Kinmen on our recent trip. We started in Taipei, took the plane from Songshan Airport and arrived in Kinmen an hour later. We rented two motor scooters, rode to Kincheng to have lunch and further on to Nanshan to check in at our guesthouse. From there we visited Shuangli Lake, the Kuningtou War Museum, and the Loudspeaker Wall at Beishan. Then we rode to Lake Ci and finally watched the sunset at Jiangong Islet. Was a great first day!

Originally known as Houpu, Jincheng is Kinmen's political and economic center, and the most prosperous area in modern-day Kinmen. Other than historical sites, many prominent establishments and stores are located here. Walking is in fact the best way to tour Jincheng. Kinmen Travel Taiwan: Should you visit?
Wsup folks, its ya boy Darewrecks and today we adventure to Kinmen. You probably never heard of Kinmen, but it could be the right place for you to visit if you plan to go to Taiwan. Let me share some information and let you decide! Just to let you know, it's one of the coolest places I ever been to, and it could be for you! This travel video can easily be applied to an already existing itinerary.

Now when I first researched Kinmen, (I do research sometimes) no one was really saying anything good about it. “Oh, its ok, you can see it all in 3 days.” I don’t know what they were smoking, but Kinmen, in my opinion, is amazing, and by far the best place in Taiwan, hands down! There really isn’t that much information on it. Kinmen, to me, was like being a real-life explorer. Yes, there was information about locations but nothing solid. I was looking for a tank. It said, “oh, it's by the bathroom, beyond the sand dunes, but not past the Wind Lion God.” I’m almost giving up because I can’t find it, then my hard work paid off, in the desolate dunes emerged a rusty old tank. It was like a real adventure for me.
Kinmen consists of Kinmen and Little Kinmen. I went during winter break. It was Frisco weather: cloudy, windy, and cold. I was not prepared. Some of the villages looked like they were from times past. Just the whole place boggled my mind in a good way. This was before going to Matsu, so the terrain and landforms, everything was different from the rest of Taiwan. I didn’t know this, but the tides are very important in Kinmen. Everything changes when the tides are low and high. Magical things happen, buried artifacts of times past and magical pathways appear depending on the tides. You have to figure it out yourself. That's the fun part, or Google.
Kinmen is also heavy with military history past and present, due to its proximity to China. I was so close I could see people walking around in China, with binoculars. But the biggest thing about Kinmen to me are the Wind Lion Gods. They actually are not Gods, but spirits who protect things. Some protect large areas of Kinmen or houses or a community. There are 104, I believe in Kinmen and Little Kinmen. This is like real life Pokemon Go. Yes, there's a map, but it's not detailed. Some Wind Lion Gods are in people's houses. You have to knock on their doors and ask for permission, others are just super hard to find because they are small and in some random locations, while some are huge and easy to see.

My knowledge about these places is what's important, and I know my stuff.
Kinmen Tourism Buses (Kinmen, Taiwan)
Kinmen has a bus service specifically for tourists. Day tickets are NTD 200 and include bus rides and guided tours at all destinations (Chinese only). Departure is from the bus station in Jincheng at 8:30and 13:30.
- Line A (morning): to Juguang Tower (莒光樓) and several sites in Shuitou, including traditional architecture, houses by returnees from Southeast Asia (including a Peranakan house) and the Zhaishan tunnels (翟山坑道) an underground navy installation.
- Line B (afternoon): to Guning, north of Jincheng, to several museums and sites related to military history and the battle of 1949 in particular, and a wildlife museum.
- Lines C and D start from Shanwai in the east of the island.
Public buses also go to all parts of the island, including the major sites, the ferry terminal and the airport (red 1 line, 紅一). Buses 7/7A/7B run from the Shuitou Pier, to Shuitou, and finally to Kincheng. Buses 9/10/11 go to the northwest part of the island, particularly the Shuangli Wetland Area and Guningtou Battle Museum. Bus fares are NTD 12 or NTD 24 for long distances (such as from Kincheng to the eastern half of Kinmen). For Little Kinmen, the fare is NTD 10. Understand that buses can be rather infrequent and many do not run late. Also, the bus drivers will skip a station if there is no one waiting there, so press the get off button when you want to get off. Jincheng has a major bus station with buses to many parts of the island and also has a very useful tourist office.

A visit to a Taiwan cafe is necessary when scootering around after a long day. One of the best parts of travel for coffee and tea lovers is visiting cute and unique cafes -- and Kinmen Island is full of them!
In this VLOG, we'll scooter from Shanwai to Shamei and visit two unique cafes, one a popular dessert shop and the other by one of Kinmen's most popular tourist destinations, Little Morocco.

Second day of our trip to Kinmen. We visited a few old villages (Qionglin, Shanhou), bagged a total of 11 wind lion statues and enjoyed a great sunset at Mashan.

4K 2018 金門一日遊 (Taiwan Kinmen Island 1 day trip with DJI Pocket )
Day trip in beautiful Kinmen Island with friends and family. It only took about 45 minutes ferry from Xiamen China. It is amazing for out of country trip for such a short commute time. Kinmen Island is the closest Island of Taiwan to mainland China. Despite its wartime history, it is also a very traditional Fujian style village. Definitely worth visiting.
DJI pocket is the latest gadget from DJI, it records Video in 4k 60 frames and able to produce excellent video with film like feeling.

Kinmen (金門), also known as Quemoy, is a group of islands under the administration of the Republic of China (Taiwan), situated just 10 km (6.2 mi) east of Xiamen, Fujian, in the People's Republic of China (PRC), across Xiamen Bay. The county includes the main island of Kinmen and several smaller islets, as well as the more distant Wuqiu Township. Kinmen's strategic location has made it a focal point in Cross-Strait relations, experiencing numerous military confrontations, particularly during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958.
Historically, Kinmen has been inhabited for thousands of years, with significant settlement and development during the Ming dynasty. It served as a base for Koxinga in his campaign against the Dutch in Taiwan. The island has changed hands several times, most notably being occupied by Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War before returning to ROC control after World War II. Despite military tensions, travel restrictions between Kinmen and Taiwan were lifted in 1994, and a direct ferry route to Xiamen was established in 2001, symbolizing a step towards closer Cross-Strait relations.
The name Kinmen (金門) translates to Golden Gate, reflecting its historical significance and strategic importance. The island is known for its military history, including the Battle of Guningtou, and has become a symbol of the complex relationship between Taiwan and the PRC. Despite its contentious past, Kinmen has developed into a vibrant community, with a focus on tourism and economic development, benefiting from its unique position as a gateway between Taiwan and mainland China.

並列齊放的桌椅，面對著前方的朱熹像，學子們的朗朗書聲，彷彿在耳邊響起。在喧鬧的城區，浯江書院是一個安靜的角落，讓踏入參訪的旅人們深刻感受學子們在講堂中勉勵的模樣，這裡也是後浦小鎮免費導覽中會路經的景點之一。
歷史上的金門文風鼎盛，南宋時期，理學家朱熹曾在宋高宗紹興23年（西元1153年）擔任同安縣主簿，當時金門為同安轄地，相傳朱熹任內曾兩度蒞臨金門島，金門人受朱熹教化，讀書風氣更盛。
金門人為感念朱熹，所以於清乾隆45年（西元1780年）建浯江書院的同時，並在書院後方建朱子祠奉祀。浯江書院是金門古四大書院中現今僅存的一座，而後方的朱子祠則列為國定古蹟。
As its name implies, Wujiang Academy used to be a school. Established in 1780, it's the last remaining academy out of four old similar Kinmen institutions.
The neat orderly rows of wooden desks almost make you want to sit down and study…or at least write a postcard.
The statue in the classroom is of Zhu Xi, a Song Dynasty philosopher who was also a public servant in the Mainland Chinese county of Tong An which governed Kinmen. It's believed he visited Kinmen twice and had a significant impact on its literary and academic scene.
At the back of the academy, there's a shrine dedicated to Zhu Xi in appreciation of his influence. It's now a national monument.
