10 Best Places to Live or Retire in Costa Blanca, Spain | Explore Spain

In today's Explore Spain episode, we share with you the 10 Best Towns and Cities to Visit in Costa Blanca, Spain.

Splendid beaches, delicious cuisine, vibrant nightlife and lively fiestas all make Spain one of Europe's best getaways. Because Spain encompasses several autonomous regions and islands, the country boasts one of the most widely diverse cultures and landscapes on the continent.

Costa Blanca is a stunning region that offers something for everyone, whether you're looking to relax on the beach, explore historic landmarks, or sample delicious cuisine. Its warm climate, beautiful beaches, and stunning natural scenery make it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Spain.

You can explore the long stripe of the Costa Blanca (White Coast), one of Spain's premier holiday coasts, popular with both domestic and foreign visitors. It's very busy in summer, with a lively social scene and great beaches. Even if that's not your scene, there are still several worthwhile destinations along this coast. Although the original fishing villages have long been engulfed by the sprawl of resorts, a few old-town kernels, such as those at Xàbia (Jávea) and Altea, still survive. Alicante itself has plenty to offer besides legendary nightlife, while Dénia is an enticing blend of a traditional fishing town, beach resort, and gastronomic destination.

Xàbia or Jávea is a coastal town and municipality in the comarca of Marina Alta, in the province of Alicante, Valencia, Spain, by the Mediterranean Sea.

With its variety of landscape, ranging from sandy coastlines to rugged mountain areas, its mild year-round climate, its careful planning policies and extensive tourist facilities, Javea is a jewel on the Costa Blanca, combining beauty and modern facilities with the charm of an ancient fishing village.

Jávea Local Market (Mercat de Xàbia)
In the centre of town the covered indoor market sells all sorts of fabulous fresh local produce: fruit, vegetables, meat and fresh fish are brought up from the port daily.

Beaches
The Arenal area offers a beautiful sandy bay with palm trees and play areas for children. The bay is framed by the promenade with its wonderful choice of bars and restaurants offering national and international specialities.

Historic Centre
The oldest area in Jávea was once enclosed by walls, and is set some way in from the coast, surrounding the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento).
The oldest houses and palaces are gorgeous, blending whitewashed walls with the local golden “tosca” sandstone.

Sant Bertomeu de Xàbia
One monument composed almost entirely of the distinctive local sandstone is this 16th-century church constructed in the Valencian gothic style. The church was constructed when Corsairs were a constant threat to coastal towns, which explains its tough, military appearance: There are battlements on top and you can even make out the loopholes for guns, as this was a place of refuge during attacks when people would often be captured as slaves.

Jávea Port
The importance of the town’s maritime activities is apparent in the port area; known as Aduanas de Mar, it boasts a lovely promenade and some excellent fish restaurants where you can enjoy the ‘catch of the day’.
The fishing harbour is situated next to a attractive marina full of interesting yachts, a lovely area for a morning or evening stroll.

Javea - An undiscovered paradise

Javea is a small, historic town, free of high rise buildings offering a relaxing holiday atmosphere. The local people are friendly and affable. The clean, warm, blue Mediterranean Sea laps the beautiful beaches and coves that Javea has to offer.

The town is situated between the San Antonio and La Nao points and enjoys the impressive and magnificent protection of Mount Montgó. It's approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Alicante towards the north-eastern tip of the Costa Blanca.

A walk around the back of The Parador Hotel, Javea, Spain | Things to do in Javea in 4K

Are you looking for things to do in Javea? Come with me as I walk around the rocky beach to the rear or the Parador Hotel.

Located on the edge of the Arenal, this area is a favourite with fishermen and those looking to do a spot of snorkelling. It also boasts a historical Roman Ruin, known as Baños de la Reina en Xabia.

According to records, these are known to be salted fish factories, used by the romans to process the local catch.

Additionally, the location also houses a natural pool, belonging to a Minister of Castro, Mariano Navarro Rubio, who received a plot on this land in 1959.

Easily accessed and with parking, this is an ideal location to spend the day exploring, sunbathing, snorkelling, and it is only a short walk to both the Arenal beach, restaurants and bars.

Places to see in ( Alicante - Spain ) Javea Arenal Promenade

Places to see in ( Alicante - Spain ) Javea Arenal Promenade

Many people arriving in Jávea will stop at this beach and go nowhere else for a few days. Playa de Arenal wins the Blue Flag year after year, and is also the only completely sandy beach in the resort. It’s almost half a kilometre in length and gains the award for its meticulous standards of cleanliness and possession almost every amenity you could wish for.

Tracing the beachfront next to Avenida de la Libertad is an exceptional shopping and dining district. The Javea Arenal Promenade is almost totally pedestrianised and very much a family place, with locals out jogging, walking their dogs and stopping by at ice cream parlours or cafes for a chat with friends.

In the evening there’s a real urban bustle here: You can call in at one of the many bars for pre-dinner drinks at Javea Arenal Promenade , and of course the selection of restaurants is part of the appeal. Come for Spanish classics like tapas or paella, or American-style fast food, pizza or Chinese.

( Alicante - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Alicante . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Alicante - Spain

Javea Spain: villa holiday with Interhome

I was lucky enough to spend the week in Javea, Spain with Interhome in a gorgeous villa in the Spanish mountains on the Northern Costa Blanca.

In this video I take a tour of the villa, showing off the incredible outside space – the swimming pool, the tennis court, the boules court and the terrace where I enjoyed my morning coffee and an evening gin – and take a road trip (of course)!

Villa holidays are my absolute favourite as you totally relax and chill out without having to worry about getting out and about – like you do when you stay in a hotel or hostel. This holiday for me was all about really winding down after a couple of busy weeks with work, trying to sell a house, trying to buy a house, and blogging.

We totally fell in love with Javea – the mix of coast and mountains, the seafront and promenade, and the traditional old town and I’d definitely recommend the area for a great holiday in Spain. It’s also close to Calpe, Alicante, Valencia and even Benidorm, so there is plenty to do in the area.

One of my favourite things about Spain is the delicious food and drink and Javea was no different. I indulged in plenty of paella and sangria!

Wondering what to do on your own holiday to Javea? Read my Javea travel guide for more inspiration here:
