We're one of the thousands of expats who adore the charming qualities of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. But it's true, there are some details that aren't the greatest. We wanted to make this video to give people the full picture on Ajijic (the negative details you might even call deal breakers) to make sure people can make an educated decision about moving to or retiring in Ajijic.
As Americans living in Mexico, we think the Lake Chapala area as a lot to offer. But it's not without its downsides.
If you're considering retiring in a Latin America country, Mexico could very well be a great fit! Immigration from the US is extremely common, there are more migrants coming to Lake Chapala every day!
Although the Ajijic area has a lot going for it, it can be hard to find information about the negative side of things. This video is your resource!

Recently, I've been house hunting in Mexico, looking for the perfect home to buy. After viewing a few options in Queretaro (my former home of 1 year), I decided to check out Ajijic at Lake Chapala because I lived here for about 4 months back in 2018 and really enjoyed my time here.
Ajijic, Jalisco is known for having one of the largest communities of foreigners in Mexico. Hundreds of Americans and Canadians flock here every year. That's a selling feature for some and a turn-off for others. In any case, Ajijic certainly has lots of small-town charm with it's cobblestone streets, pleasant weather year-round, beautiful nature, and diverse restaurant scene.
In today's Mexico vlog, I am spending a day in Ajijic to try and decide whether this town is somewhere I'd like to live and/or buy a home! What do you think?

In 2012 we returned back to the big Island of Hawaii and bought a small cottage. For 2 Years we using Hawaii as our home-base. We now have moved back to Mexico and using Mexico is our home-base as we continue to travel around the world. Jalisco - México en tus sentidos
Jalisco es uno de los treinta y un estados que, junto con el Distrito Federal, conforman las treinta y dos entidades federativas de México.
Se encuentra situado en la zona occidental del país. Colinda con el Estado de Nayarit hacia el noroeste; Zacatecas, Aguascalientes hacia el norte; Guanajuato y San Luis Potosí hacia el este y Colima y Michoacán hacia el sur. Hacia el poniente, Jalisco tiene una importante franja costera en el Océano Pacífico.
Jalisco es la cuarta entidad federativa más poblada de México y uno de los Estados más desarrollados en el país en cuanto a actividades económicas, comerciales y culturales. En ciertas partes de la capital y de algunos municipios el nivel de vida es comparable a países como España e Italia, pero al igual que en el resto de México no es representativo de todos los municipios. Su capital es Guadalajara, cuya zona metropolitana está compuesta por los municipios de Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque, Tonalá, Tlajomulco, El Salto, Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos y Juanacatlán, haciendo de ésta la segunda aglomeración urbana más grande de México después de la capital. Es la tierra de los charros, jaripeos, palenques, mariachi, tequila y muchas de las tradiciones que en el mundo se asocian con lo auténticamente mexicano.
