Exploring Caucasus Mountains | Top Russia Travel Vlog 2021
Most tourists who visit Russia usually see only Moscow and St. Petersburg. What if I tell you that there is one incredible and unique region the memories after visiting which will forever remain in your memory?
This area is called Caucasus. This is Russia that you don't expect to see!
During the week my friends and I visited four regions of this area: Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia-Alania and Ingushetia. Each of these regions has a special atmosphere. In each of them you will see unique and incredibly beautiful places that will take your breath away. The nature of the Caucasus is so amazing!
We visited Mineralnye vody, Pyatigorsk, Essentuki, Vladikavkaz and Beslan towns, went to the top of the mountains of Dombai, were driving not far from the highest mountain in Europe - Elbrus, were living in the houses of local people in the villages and so much more.
Kind people, delicious meat and pies, sweet wine, unforgettable mountains, incredible views, the most beautiful sunsets, horses running through the mountains - this is all the Caucasus. This region is one of the most beautiful in Russia and it is a must-visit! I really hope you will see these places!

Russia Travel: Pyatigorsk - Sunny City Among Mountains | Caucasus Road Trip
Welcome to Pyatigorsk! In this episode of the film about my road trip to the Caucasus, we're going to explore the resort city of Pyatigorsk. The city where there are more sunny days in the year than anywhere else! Pyatigorsk is the second most populous city in the Stavropol region, one of the oldest balneological resorts in Russia and a place with which the last years of M. Lermontov's life are inseparably connected. With its numerous mineral springs and mud deposits compactly spread over a relatively small area Pyatigorsk is quite capable of putting pressure on the leading resorts of the Czech Republic and Germany. However, it is good not only for health, but also as a new interesting route in the tourist collection inveterate traveler. Located at the foot of Mashuk Mountain, sunk in picturesque groves and entangled serpentine terrenekur, this picturesque piece of the Northern Caucasus is always welcome guests regardless of their nationality and social status. And what restrictions can there be in the city, where all natural riches, be it mineral water, therapeutic Tambukan silt or the cleanest mountain air, are free for everybody! Enjoy the tour!

Pyatigorsk: the oldest resort in Russia through the eyes of my wife
The territories on which the resort is now located used to belong to the Ottoman Empire. As a result of the peace treaty of 1774 between Russia and Turkey, the local lands came under the Russian Empire's jurisdiction. Before the foundation of the city, there was a military fortification here. Later, hot sulfur springs were discovered in the vicinity of the fortification. From this period, the development of the resort begins.
The Russian Empire spared no expense for the development of the resort. Foreign experts are invited to the city. In the vicinity of the Pyatigorsk town, colonists' settlements from Scotland, Germany, and Italy appear. The principal architects of the city were immigrants from Switzerland and England. By the end of the 19th century, Pyatigorsk became the most fashionable and prestigious resort in the Russian Empire.
The city's development is the Russian analog of the conquest of the Wild West in North America. Only for the Russian Empire, it was the Wild South.
By the middle of the 20th century, the city lost its former glory as of the country's top resort, yielding the palm to the subtropical city of Sochi.

Russian third-class train to Pyatigorsk (Platzkart)
The last time I travelled in a third-class carriage (Platzkart) was as a child. The third-class carriage resembled me one large communal apartment, in which someone was sure to drink vodka.
A trip in a third-class carriage contributes to making new acquaintances. During the journey, people share the most intimate because they know that they will never meet again.
After two days of travelling by train, it seems that I have known my neighbours all my life. I still remember all my neighbours in the third class carriage with whom I was travelling, even though it was quite a long time ago. Nevertheless, it should be noted that then gadgets have just begun to appear, and they didn’t have the same features as they do now, so people had no choice but to communicate with each other. Now the situation is probably different.
I decided to remember my childhood and youth and take a ride in the third-class carriage.

The Oldest Necropolis of Pyatigorsk
The former resort capital of the Russian Empire has a unique place - Necropolis. In this oldest cemetery, you can find extraordinary evidence of the past of this part of Russia. Tombstones in Russian, Greek, and Armenian testify to the rich history of the city of Pyatigorsk. Besides, the great Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov is buried here.

Travel during a pandemic: the city of Zheleznovodsk
Six months ago, about 10 thousand cases were registered in Russia every day. At that time, not only were flights canceled, but it was also forbidden to drive a car without a pass. I stayed at home apart from short trips to nearby shops. If someone told me in those times that I will be traveling around the country at the end of the year, when every day, more than 25 thousand cases will be registered in Russia, I probably would not have believed it.
In December, I decided to attend the conference held in the city of Zheleznovodsk during the pandemic.
Zheleznovodsk is a small resort town in the North Caucasus, which has always been very popular with Soviet citizens.
The town's name means iron-water-place, as the mineral waters springing from the earth in Zheleznovodsk were considered to have high iron content.
Zheleznovodsk, along with Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Yessentuki, and Mineralnye Vody, is a part of the Caucasus Mineral Waters, a famous Russian spa resort. The town economy rotates around sanatoria, where dozens of thousands of people from all over Russia and former Soviet republics come year-round to rest and prevent and treat stomach, kidney, and liver diseases.
Judging by the abandoned houses on the outskirts of the city, the population of Zheleznovodsk in the past was much higher. Nevertheless, the central part of the town is well-groomed. I was surprised at the considerable number of tourists in the city for December.
I visited the city's mineral water springs, walked along the terrenkur and the town's streets.

Russia: Expedition to Mount Elbrus (5642m)
Russia: Expedition to Mount Elbrus (5642m), a trip with a Russian Mountain Guide 7 Summits Club Collection
Trip overview:
Mineralny Vody – Terskol – Elbrus (5642m) – Terskol – Mineralny Vody
Why go there?
If asked about the highest and most dramatic mountains of Europe nine out of ten Europeans will answer “the Alps”. Yet, the grandest and by far the highest mountain chain of Europe (seven summits over 5000m plus Mt.Elbrus with its 5642m) is the Caucasus stretching between the Black and Caspian seas in the continent’s south-eastern corner. And undoubtedly, Mt. Elbrus, this white double-headed dormant volcano, is the highest, most beautiful and most alluring mountain in Russia.
Elbrus belongs to a handful of mountains with a very special and irresistible kind of beauty which lies in their shape and setting. Most of them are volcanoes, such as Fujiyama, Ararat and Kilimanjaro, and like all these, this mountain is a world apart. It stands 11km north from the Main Range and exceeds its neighbors in height by 1200-2000m. The views from both the summits are breathtaking: to north it is a rolling carpet of pastures veiled by the blue haze of distance and on all the other sides the sea of snowy peaks. It is said that through the clear air of autumn you can see both the Black and Caspian seas.
Why go with 7 Summits Club?
Six points to consider:
1. Everyone knows: the key figure on any adventure trip is the guide. All our guides have international certificates, fluent English (plus some other European language) and can guide on all the three popular Elbrus routes: the classic, from north and south-west. All our guides work with our groups abroad: in Nepal, South America, Alaska and Africa.
2. We are the only Russian company, which has its own office in Terskol village. Our English speaking manager can solve practically all clients’ problems.
3. Not many people are ready to buy all the gear needed for climbing to 5600m (the list is really long and expensive!), so gear rentals can be a good answer to this. We offer 10% discount if you rent in our office.
4. On the mountain we do not put our clients in the notorious Barrels. Instead we use the newly built shiny steel&glass LeapRus refuge at 3930m, modern, clean, with no rusty metal constructions and barracks around.
5. Last but not least: Elbrus climb certificates for clients who made it to the summit. And Elbrus T-shirts with Elbrus, of course!
6. The type of hotel is less important for the success on the mountain, but still most western clients would prefer the European level of service, i.e. with the hotel staff speaking good English and ready to solve quickly your problem.
