A Local's Guide To Must-See New Mexico | Best In Travel 2023
BEST IN TRAVEL 2023: NEW MEXICO
Learn why New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment. Is it because of the state's thousand-year-old pueblos where Native Americans still live in today? Or the fiery-red deserts that you can cross on horseback or by hot air balloon? Or perhaps, is it because of the modern and contemporary art scene that New Mexico's capital Santa Fe is world-famous for? Native American hoop dancer ShanDien LaRance shows us her top places to go and things to do while introducing us to the native land and culture of her home state.

✦ GEAR I USE ✦
📸 Cameras:
---------------------------------------------------
I get a lot of questions about the cameras I use. Here are my main cameras:
• [GoPro Hero 13](
• [GoPro Hero 13 Creator Edition] (
This is a very durable camera. It withstands the elements and can go places other cameras can’t. There are many accessories available for GoPro cameras which makes the camera endlessly customizable and versatile. If you are intending to make vlogs or travel videos where you speak, you might prefer the creator edition which comes with more accessories.
• [DJI Osmo Pocket 3](
• [DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo] (
This little handheld camera is very easy to pack because of its small size. It is not as rugged as the GoPro, but is easy to carry and make stable video. I use the creator combo version which includes an additional battery and a microphone that can be clipped to your shirt for improved audio which I like for filming walking tours.
🔋 Other useful tech:
---------------------------------------------------
• [DJI OM 6](
This device attaches to a smartphone to help record more stable video.
• [GoPro Enduro Battery](
An extra battery for the GoPro.
• [Anker USB-C Cable](
A flexible and durable charging cable that charges quickly.
• [Anker USB-C Power Bank](
These are great for recharging my phone or cameras while traveling, and are also useful for power outages.
• [Anker MagGo Power Bank] (
This battery connects directly to the back of iPhones that have MagSafe and can charge the phone without the use of a cable.
• [Samsung Micro SD Card 256 GB](
This memory card works on most small cameras, and can record for a long time.
• [Samsung 2TB SSD Portable SSD](
I take this hard drive with me when I travel so that I can back up the footage that I record on my trip. It fits in one of the pockets inside my tech case, and holds a lot of footage.
✈️ Travel gear I like:
---------------------------------------------------
• [Peak Design Travel Duffel](
This durable bag fits easily into the overhead compartments on airplanes and the straps can be configured to be comfortably worn as a backpack, which is nice for long walks through an airport.
• [Peak Design Tech Pouch Large](
• [Peak Design Tech Pouch Small] (
I have both sizes, and have used the larger one consistently for many years. They are incredibly durable, and nicely fit all of my camera gear. I like that I can fit a GoPro inside of the larger one, along with cables, SD Cards, a battery and a small hard drive. People traveling with less gear or less space in their bags might prefer just the smaller pouch.
• [Wetcat Turkish Beach Towel] (
This towel spreads out large, but packs up tiny and dries quickly. I have disliked every other pack towel I have ever used, but this one is made of cotton and feels soft and does not have a funny smell.
• [Yeti Cooler]( )
Buying food when traveling gets expensive, so I try to pack as much food as I can. This cooler keeps things fresh for a long time. It also means that I can pick up local foods when I go places and bring them home with me.
🎧 Audiobooks:
---------------------------------------------------
I listen to lots of audiobooks while on the road. Get started with a free audiobook here:
• [Audible](
You might enjoy listening to Forget the Alamo the Rise and Fall of an American Myth (

Hobbs, New Mexico to Seminole, Texas
Short trip from Hobbs, New Mexico to Seminole, Texas. After crossing into Texas, the vegetation changes from mesquite and grass to red soil with wheat and cotton fields. However, because of a lack of rain since 10-2010, even the circular irrigation was not operating. Dust was blowing across US 62. Scene reminiscent of the Dust Bowl era.

Things TO DO in New Mexico - Bandelier National Monument Tour
Looking for things TO DO while in Santa Fe or Tao, New Mexico. A road trip to Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico. We took a road trip to Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico. In the Frijoles Canyon, there are a number of ancestral pueblo homes, kivas (ceremonial structures), rock paintings, and petroglyphs. Some of the dwellings were rock structures built on the canyon floor; others were dwellings in caves which were formed by voids in the volcanic tuff of the canyon wall and carved out further by humans. There is a 1.2-mile (1.9 km), predominantly paved, Main Loop Trail from the visitor center allows you to access to many of these features. Hikers may enter many of the structures via ladder. Bandelier National Monument is a 33,677-arce park near Los Alamos in New Mexico. Most of the pueblo structures date to two eras, dating between 1150 and 1600 AD.
