Let's view one of the most spectacular crater lakes in the world, lake Lalolalo in the island of Wallis (of the French territory Wallis and Futuna in the Pacific Ocean). Lake Lalolalo is the most spectacular of the Wallis crater lakes. The eerie lake Lalolalo in Wallis is an almost perfect circle with sheer rocky cliffs falling 30m down to the dark, 80m deep waters. Lake Lalolalo is also described as circular, with vertical red walls 30 metres high, which make the pea-green water almost inaccessible. The jungle around lake Lalolalo is inhabited by tropical birds and flying foxes which regularly fly low over the lake. The lake has a population of eels, which many conservationists have been concerned with due to the lake's inaccessibility.

Nukuʻalofa is the capital of Tonga. It is located on the north coast of the island of Tongatapu, in the country's southernmost island group.
Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom of more than 170 South Pacific islands, many uninhabited, most lined in white beaches and coral reefs and covered with tropical rainforest. The main island, Tongatapu, is protected by lagoons and limestone cliffs. It’s home to the rural capital of Nuku'alofa, as well as beach resorts, plantations and the Ha'amonga ʻa Maui, a monumental coral gate from the 1200s.

This set of 34 raised limestone isles, has a tremendous
coastline with gorgeous white sand beaches and lots of
hideaways to explore.
The Tongans were visited by a great many Pacific explorers
and were a popular port of call. Captain Cook called them the
friendly isles.
The town of Neiafu is a bustling marketplace
on weekdays and Saturdays.
But never on Sunday!

It is actually against the law for a Tongan to engage in business
of any kind on Sunday -- a prohibition laid down by the Christian
missionaries who were among the first Westerners to settle here.
Dancing and singing were such a strong element in Polynesian
life that when Christianity denied them these forms of expression
they redirected their energy to embrace Christian hymns.

Whales watching in New Caledonia

🌐

Between July and September, during the southern hemisphere winter, New Caledonia is home to humpback whales as they swim back from Antarctica to escape its excessively cold waters and come to rest and give birth in our waters. They are most numerous off the south of the Grand Terre. Come and meet these fascinating sea animals.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold hits Kanokupolu Beach in Tonga.

On Thursday the 9th of April 2020, around 7:30am, Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold slammed Kanokupolu Beach and the North West Coast of Tongatapu at Category 5. Unfortunately this coincided with a King Tide and Supermoon. TC Harold had continued a straight path across the Pacific from Vanuatu to Tonga, amassing a giant swell and unleashed unprecedented waves onto the Sunset Coast. Beach-side resorts lost buildings and beach front- yet fortunately no lives were lost. Concrete blocks and other shrapnel from the neighbouring function centre, built over the public beach, now litters the once pristine beachfront & lagoon. A massive clean-up effort is required before the upcoming tourism season. Photographs by Shane & Chris Egan. Editing & Sound by Shane Egan. Movie footage & commentary by Guido.
