A Short Visit to England - Part 2 (FTHVN 977)
We start the day with a drive over to the Harwaden Airfield in Broughton, Wales where Airbus manufactures wing assemblies for their airliners. We are lucky and one of the Airbus Beluga XL transports is slated to arrive and pick up wing assemblies. In addition, there are some old Soviet aircraft in the viewing area that are worth looking at. Plus, the Chocks Away Diner adjacent the viewing area is a great place to get a bit to eat!
Next, we drive further up the Welsh coast to the town of Llanerch-y-Mor where to find the rusting hulk of the old steamship Duke of Lancaster beached along the shores of the River Dee Estuary.

Hawarden Station 10/9/19
The individual stations we visited whilst exploring The Bordersland Line between Wrexham and Bidston, we chose this line to focus on due to the upcoming stock replacement on the line which will see the Sprinter Units currently operating the services switched for old London Underground Trains just like the Bedford to Bletchley Line.

Curious Clwyd - 15 Things To See For FREE In North Wales Vlog
Welcome to this Curious Clwyd - Oddities & things to see for free in North Wales vlog.
Are you visiting North East Wales? Have you ever been? Have you ever looked for things to see and do in North Wales, but money is tight and you want something free to see? If so, check out this video.
The counties of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy and Wrexham were formerly one large county called, Clwyd - the Welsh word for Gate.
There are so many things to see and do in the old Clwyd area which don't cost anything at all. Some have a small charge for a car park, but this is a video to show you some of the slightly lesser known oddities of this area of North Wales.
In this vlog, we will be visiting the following 15 places and sights-
Ewloe Castle
Hawarden's House of Correction
The Echo Gates of Leeswood
The Upside Down Pig in St Mary's Church, Mold
The Jubilee Tower on Moel Famau
The WWII Llandegla Pill Box
Foxhall Newydd, Henllan
Denbigh Friary
Dyserth Waterfall (Rhaedr Dyserth)
Derwen's Churchyard Cross
Pont Rhydycilgwyn
The Pillar of Eliseg
The Point of Ayr Lighthouse
The Duke of Lancaster Ship
Basingwerk Abbey
There is so much history in these places, we would love it if you joined us on this fun tour.
Also included for all of the locations are the, What 3 Words (check out or Google, What 3 Words if you haven't heard of it already - it's like a postcode, but more accurate).
Some of these locations were inspired by posts on the Curious Clwyd Facebook site and the Myths Legends Oddities North East Wales web site (
Some of the locations are quite famous, but many of them, even if you know the area, you may not have known that they existed.
We have lived in North East Wales all our lives and many of these places, we have never visited until we filmed this vlog.
Did we mentioned that all of these places can be seen for free? Free things to do in North Wales, things to see for free in North Wales - crazy hey??!!
One or two of these places have a small car parking charge, but there are always alternative places to park nearby for free. The only place in this video that has an admission fee is the waterfall at Dysert, there is a unmanned, 50p honesty pot charge, but if you don't want to pay, you can still get excellent views from the park next to it, without having to pay a penny.
We hope you enjoy this video and we hope it inspires you to check out some of these lesser known oddities and places in the old Clwyd region of North East Wales.
Some of these places feature in more detail in some of our other vlogs, so be sure to check them out.
Also, check out our website, where we have an affiliates page with links to various goodies that we use or talk about in our vlogs.
If you want to skip between the places, just click on one of these chapter points.

⭐ About Postcard & A Pint:
Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint YouTube channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It's just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x

Hawarden Bridge
The bridge across the River Dee near Chester is now an important part of the cycle route which, since this film was made, now extends along most of the north Wales coast.
The Flintshire Bridge #bridges #civilengineering #suspension bridges #northwales
The Flintshire Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Dee Estuary in North Wales. The bridge links Flint and Connah's Quay to the shore north of the River Dee at the southern end of the Wirral Peninsula. The bridge cost £55million to construct.[1] This cost was met by the then Welsh Office and in the future, maintenance costs are expected to be the responsibility of the local authority Flintshire County Council.
The bridge was officially opened in 1998 by Queen Elizabeth II. It carries part of the A548 road and has been nicknamed 'the bridge to nowhere' as it doesn't link up with the A55 Expressway.
It is the largest asymmetric cable-stayed bridge in the whole of Britain
Is this abandoned castle the best kept secret in Flintshire?
Flint is a small, functional town in North East Wales.
Thousands of tourists pass through every year on their way to places such as Prestatyn and Rhyl.
Few will be aware of the stunning Flint Castle, hidden from view as they pass through Flint.
Join me for a tour along with some fascination facts about the history of this abandoned castle.
Very much worth visiting, it's outstanding features include the recently installed spiral staircase to a lofty viewing platform with stunning, expansive views along the Dee estuary and the town of Flint.
The donjon is a feature unique to castles in the UK.
The castle was commissioned by King Edward I of England. It was the first fortification in his ring of iron which was intended to control and subdue the Welsh.
The castle was slighted after the English Civil War, on the instructions of Oliver Cromwell.
The ruins which we see today are little changed for almost 400 years.
If you're new to my channel, welcome and I hope you stay around!
I have many plans for forthcoming videos, based in Flintshire, North Wales, North West England and further afield.
I know that my videography and microphone skills need to improve massively, but hey, we all gotta start somewhere!

Wales-Pembrokeshire June 2022
Beautiful Pembrokeshire in the summer, during a heat wave! we saw stunning beaches, coves, beautiful countryside and the smallest city in the U.K (St David's) with a population of only 1,600 people! Absolutely gorgeous an it feels like we travelled abroad.
