Are you looking to get out into nature? Hilton Head Island and the surrounding islands have an almost endless selection of parks and nature preserves. Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge spreads out over a whopping 4,000 acres, and you'll spot wildlife like rare shorebirds to armadillos. At Coligny Beach Park, you can rent a beach chair and lounge around on the sand or dip your toes in the clear, clean ocean. Or take the family to the Coastal Discovery Museum to learn about local flora and fauna.
When it comes to unique local culture, you also won’t be disappointed by Hilton Head. Daufuskie Island, only accessible by boat, is home to an array of famous artists and musicians—in fact, in fact, the island is included on the National Register of Historic Places because it’s an arts hub. You can learn about local Gullah culture at the Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park and The Gullah Museum (by appointment only).
If you prefer to shop until you drop, there are lots of things to do in Hilton Head. When you jump off the trolley, you should walk along the Savannah Waterfront. Over here you can meet a great mixture of locals and visitors enjoying their day. You can also find many great restaurants and bars on the waterfront. You can also take a ferry from the waterfront to view Savannah from afar!
You can also walk to the Savannah Theatre as well as the Lucas Theatre to enjoy a live performance such as a play or concert.
If you love to relax, you can do so on Tybee Island where you can relax and soak up the sun on Savannah’s beach. The island also has historical sites as well as many restaurants that offer great seafood.
Speaking of historical sites, there are many religious sites that you can visit in Savannah. These include the First and Second African Baptist Church. You can also visit the Congregation Mickve Israel and Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
