Best Buildings and Architecture in London, United Kingdom

The buildings and the architecture of any city one is travelling to, tells a lot about the history of the place, and not just that, but sometimes they keep people wondering how did architects manage to bring such a beauty to the world of buildings.

When it comes to the city of London and the beautiful buildings and architecture found in it, one will pass by the old and the new and both will mesmerize him/her in place. We have walked through the streets of London and explored its beautiful buildings and the architecture in the place, and we have made up a list for the best ones that truly grabbed our attention:

10 - Westminster Abbey: Westminster Abbey is formally titled the Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster and it is one of the United Kingdom most notable religious buildings and the traditional place of coronation and burial site for English, and later for British, monarchs. In addition to the history that this building carries as a church and thus attracts tourists to it, it is also a place of magnificent architecture that will bring visitors to the place and let them wonder how it was built. (

9 - Royal Albert Hall: this is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, London, which since it was first opened, the world leading artists from many performing genre appeared on its stage. This hall is a Grade I listed building and the design of it either from the inside or the outside will make it all look different. Around the outside of the building, there is a great mosaic frieze, depicting The Triumph of Arts and Sciences in reference to the hall's dedication. Proceeding anti-clock wise from the north side, the sixteen subject of the frieze are: various countries of the world bringing in their offerings to the Exhibition of 1851, music, sculpture, painting, Princes (Art patrons and artists), workers in stone, workers in wood and brick, architecture, the infancy of arts and sciences, agriculture, horticulture and land surveying, astronomy and navigation, a group of philosophers and sages and students, engineering, the mechanical powers, and pottery and glass-making. (

8 - Royal Courts of Justice: this is known as the Law Courts and it houses the High Court and Court of Appeal of England and Wales. The Royal Court of Justice was firstly designed by George Edmund Street but he actually died before it was completed. This building is a large grey stone edifice in the Victorian Gothic style that was built in the 1870's but was opened by Queen Victoria in 1882. (

7 - National Theatre: this building is one of the United Kingdom three most prominent publicly funded performing arts and venues that houses three separate theaters inside, plus a temporary one that was added in April 2013 and closed once again in May 2016. (

6 - Buckingham Palace: it was built back in 1703 and it is the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom. The building or even the fountain in front of it will never miss attracting tourists to come and check this beautiful kind of architecture. (

5 - St. Paul's Cathedral: if you are looking at the different sites to visit the history of London, St. Paul's Cathedral is one of them and it also happen to be one of the top attractions when it comes to architecture. It is an Anglican Cathedral that dates back to the 17th century, which was designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren. (

4 - Supreme Court: the Supreme Court is located in the city of Westminster and it is the court of last resort and the highest appellate court in the United Kingdom.

3 - Houses of Parliament: the Houses of Parliament is also called the Palace of Westminster and it is located on the left bank of River Thames. The building was built for Edward the Confessor in the 11th century and was enlarged by William I (the conqueror). (

2 - Sky Garden: this is one of the modern buildings in the city and one of the highest public gardens to be found in the United Kingdom with views over the city. The glass building from the outside is also giving a different modern look. (

1 - Tower Bridge: of course bridges are not always from the top attractions on the list, but in London the Tower Bridge is a must see for the architectural view that one will be exposed to. It is a combined bascule and suspension bridge that was built between 1886 and 1894, and this is the one that is sometimes being mistaken and confused with London Bridge.
