Top 10 Tourist Places of Sambalpur | Hirakud | Samaleshwari Temple | Debrigarh
About Sambalpur The District experiences many beautiful festivals round the year. Sital Sasthi is observed in the month of June. This festival is the marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Nuakhai is the most important social festival of the District. Bhaijiuntia festival is celebrated on the Mahastami Day of Durga Puja.
1) Smaleshwari Temple 00:38 Samaleswari Temple is a Hindu temple in Sambalpur, Odisha, India, dedicated to the goddess known as 'Samaleswari', also known among the natives as samalei maa, meaning Mother Samaleswari
2) Deer Park 01:24 the zoo has 27 enclosures and 333 animals. Five number of Schedule -1 species animals are also in the zoo like leopard, sloth bear, chousingha, python and peacock. The zoo has 123 deers, 41 Sambars and four Sloth bears.
3) Boating Club 02:02 The pond is located at the heart of the city. It also has boating facility associated with it. The pond has been set up by the local Municipalty. Known as Ram Sagar(Bandh)not so long ago, it is now converted to a Boating club by Sambalpur Municipality. During the British rule when there wasn’t any public water supply, this tank often catered to the needs of portable water although the river was the first choice for everyone.
4) City Center Mall 02:30 One of the mall in City with movie theatre & food court, the mall has good foot fall as it serve all major needs. It has the only multiplex cinema Hall & is well made & maintain. Food court serve great food & is very pocket friendly. Great place to visit with family & friends for great outing.
5) Hirakud Dam & Park 03:04 Hirakud is the longest earthen Dam in the world and stands across the mighty river, Mahanadi, in the Sambalpur region of Odisha. The main dam has an overall length of 4.8 kms spanning between two hills. The dam is flanked by 21 km of earthen dykes on both the left and right sides. The dam and dykes together measure 25.8 kms. It also forms the biggest artificial lake in India. There are two observation towers on the dam one at each side. One is Gandhi Minar and the other one is Jawahar Minar. Both the observation towers present extensive views of the dam and lake.
6) Ghanteshwari Temple 04:30 Maa Ghanteshwari Temple is situated near city of Sambalpur on the bank of Mahanadi River. As the name suggests there are bells everywhere. People offer bells to the goddess Ghanteswari or the Deity of Bells, after fulfillment of their wishes. This area being the conglomeration of three streams of water of river Mahanadi, the water current here is very trechorous forming a whirlpool. Due to this many boats were drowned while nearing this spot. Here the wind blows quite heavily and with the help of it the bells were producing sound. Now after the construction of Hirakud dam, this spot became safer.

8) Huma Temple 05:14 Lord Mahadev is wirshipped here and it is not at all crowded.Besides the temple, a river flowing behind the temple where lots of fishes are there. You feed them and they came towards you. Really a beautiful temple and yes, the road to this temple is also very good.
9) Budharaja Hilltop 05:32 Budharaja is a small hillock in Sambalpur, Odisha, India. There is a Shiva temple situated on the top of hill and middle of the sambalpur city.[1] A concrete road goes to the temple from the base. The locality on the eastern side of the hillock is known as Budharaja due to its proximity to the hillock. Currently a Watch Tower is under construction to increase tourism.
10) Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary 06:03 Debrigarh, more than a wildlife sanctuary, is a natural wonder. Never before have we seen such diverse ecosystems in a single place. The Mahanadi River, also known as the holy Ganga, serves as the lifeline of this region.
The Hirakud reservoir has given rise to numerous islands here. Each island has a delicate ecosystem of its own. But here’s where the magic unfolds: During winter and summer, as the water level recedes, newer islands come to life, setting up a perfect home for migratory birds coming in winter. The islands here are ever-changing.
