Amazing Things to Do in Frankfurt & Top Frankfurt Attractions

Do you wonder what to do in Frankfurt? See this video and discover with us the best things to do in Frankfurt, Germany. Frankfurt is Germany’s business and finance hub, but there is so much worth seeing for the tourists.
Let’s start with Frankfurt’s old town which was almost completely destroyed during the second world war. Its reconstruction was completed only in 2017. Today you can again admire well-restored timber-framed houses while enjoying a coffee and people watching.
Frankfurt is Germany's and Europe’s leading museum location thanks to its magnificent museum embankment consisting of 15 museums. One of them is dedicated to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Germany´s most famous author and poet. He grew up in this house together with his parents and his sister and you can admire many of houses’ rooms.
In stunning contrast to the modern buildings there is the 47 meters high Eschenheim Tower. Completed in 1428, it used to serve as a city gate of Frankfurt’s late-medieval fortifications. Today it is a home to a café. Another one of city’s landmarks is the 240 meters high Main Tower. If you are not scared of heights, enjoy incredible views from its observation deck.
Be sure to taste Frankfurt’s traditional Green sauce served cold over hard-boiled eggs and boiled potatoes, and enjoy the Christmas markets, they belong to the largest and oldest in Germany, its origins date back to 1393.

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Frankfurt

This old imperial city on the River Main - hence its full name, Frankfurt am Main - is, by virtue of its central situation, the most important commercial and economic center on mainland Europe. The city's skyline, dominated by the great cluster of high-rise buildings in the banking quarter, has a distinct North American flavor, earning Frankfurt the nicknames Mainhattan and Chicago on the Main. Considered a global city - it frequently ranks in the top ten best cities in which to live and do business - Frankfurt has also long been an important center for cultural and tourism activities, its huge trade fair complex, Messe Frankfurt, hosting important events such as the Frankfurt Book Fair (the world's most important publishing event), along with many fine museums, galleries, and gardens

Places to see in ( Darmstadt‎ - Germany )

Places to see in ( Darmstadt‎ - Germany )

Darmstadt is a city near Frankfurt in southwest Germany. It’s known for the Mathildenhöhe district's art nouveau buildings, like the iconic Wedding Tower. Museum Künstlerkolonie features art nouveau glass, textiles and jewelry. Hessisches Landesmuseum displays art by Joseph Beuys. Northeast, the Messel Pit has Eocene-era fossils. To the south is ruined Frankenstein Castle, which may have inspired the famed book.

Beautiful Jugendstil (art nouveau) architecture and excellent museums are the biggest draws of this strollable city 35km south of Frankfurt. Famed for its technical university, Darmstadt is a designated Wissenschaftsstadt (City of Science). The super-heavy element Darmstadtium was first created at Darmstadt's GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research) in 1994. The city’s glass-and-stone conference centre is also called the Darmstadtium.

In 2017, Darmstadt won Germany’s first ever Digital City award for its investment in a sustainable digital future; already, the power supply for the entire tram network has been converted to 100% green electricity. The surrounding area has some fascinating sights, including the Unesco-listed archaeological site Grube Messel, and fabled castle Burg Frankenstein.

Prior to World War I, Darmstadt was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The Grand Dukes used to live in what is now the Schloss Marktplatz. It is also the birthplace of the last Empress of Russia, Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna Romanova, who was born Prinzessin Victoria Alix Helena Louise Beatrice von Hessen und bei Rhein. Sadly, much of the old town was destroyed in carpet bombing by the Allies during World War II, and most of what is still standing was reconstructed after the war. Darmstadt also lost its status as the capital of Hesse after the war, the honour now lying with the nearby city of Wiesbaden.

The popular recreational drug Ecstasy was first synthesised in Darmstadt in 1912 by a chemist known as Anton Kollisch while he was working for the pharmaceutical company Merck. The element Darmstadtium, element 110 on the Periodic Table, is named after the city. Perhaps as many as 11 atoms of this short half-life element have been synthesized to date.

The city of Frankfurt is a fascinating blend of the modern and the ancient. It is the country's fifth-largest city and home to the country's busiest airport. The airport's location means that most visitors to Germany will only spend a short amount of time in Frankfurt before continuing on to their final destination, thus missing out on what Frankfurt has to show the world.

Known as a financial hub, Frankfurt has earned the nickname Mainhattan for its New York-like cityscape of high skyscrapers that have risen along the river and Bankfurt for being the seat of the European Central Bank. If you are starting or completing your trip in Germany in Frankfurt, you should plan on staying there for at least a day. One of the best things to do in Frankfurt is to explore the streets of Sachsenhausen and stop at the classic apple wine taverns. Apfelwein, the city's favorite, is a sour apple cider that has undergone fermentation. In addition to being the signature drink of the city, it also serves as the official state beverage in place of beer. Also on the list of the best things to do in Frankfurt is spend a day at the Frankfurt City Forest.

Frankfurt's City Forest (Stadtwald) is one of the few remaining remnants of the massive Imperial Forest, covering more than 5,000 hectares. Frankfurt is among the most forested cities in all of Germany, thanks to the Frankfurt City Forest. Only 15 minutes outside the city, it attracts both foreigners and locals with its 450 kilometers of paths perfect for hiking, running, and cycling. Last but not least, another of the best things to do in Frankfurt is to go on a food tour.

The local culture of Frankfurt can be best enjoyed through its cuisine, and a great way to achieve it is to go on a food and drink tour of Frankfurt with a local guide.

In this video we'll share everything you need to know for your Frankfurt Germany long layover like how to get to the city, what to do with your bags, what to do, and how much it costs.
