The Mura Statistical Region is a statistical region in the north-east of Slovenia. It is predominantly agricultural with field crops representing over three quarters of the total utilised agricultural area, twice as much as the Slovene average. Climate and soil combined have made it the region with the highest crop production, but its geographical position and inferior infrastructure put it at a disadvantage and it is the region of Slovenia with the lowest GDP per capita (EUR 8,500) and the highest rate of registered unemployment. The region comprises the following municipalities: Apače, Beltinci, Cankova, Črenšovci, Dobrovnik, Gornja Radgona, Gornji Petrovci, Grad, Hodoš, Kobilje, Križevci, Kuzma, Lendava, Ljutomer, Moravske Toplice, Murska Sobota, Odranci, Puconci, Radenci, Razkrižje, Rogašovci, Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici, Šalovci, Tišina, Turnišče, Velika Polana and Veržej. The population in 2004 was 122,717. Employment structure: 41.2% services, 44.8% industry, 14.0% agriculture. ⚡️Loški greben je mogočna grebenska gora po kateri ni speljanih markiranih poti. Celoten greben je rezerviran za planince in predvsem alpiniste, ki se odlično znajdejo na brezpotjih in ob iskanjih naravnih prehodov v stenah, strmih travnikih, kozjih stezicah...
⚡️Na celotnem grebenu je 11 vrhov, ki so višji od 2000 metrov in v Sloveniji je zelo težko najti kraj, ki je manj obljuden in bolj prvinski, kot so stene, pobočja in travniki tega mogočnega grebena.
⚡️V videu si lahko pogledate kako sva se z mojim vodnikom in prijateljem Andražem podala na prečenje grebena od Trdnjave Kluže pa vse do Bedinjega vrha, kjer sva zaradi poslabšanja vremena in dežja predčasno sestopila z gore.
⚡️Celotna tura je trajala cel dan, okoli 12 ur sva potrebovala, da sva bila ponovno na izhodišču, če bi greben prečila do konca, bi to verjetno naneslo dodatni 2 uri.
⚡️Celotna pot je izjemno zahtevna tako iz orientacijskega, kot tudi tehničnega in fizičnega smisla. Ves čas je potrebno namreč iskati prehode prek sten, zelo strmih travnikov, nad več 1000 m globokimi prepadnimi stenami... Po poti ni moč dobiti vode, ves čas si izpostavljen soncu, pot tudi malo ne gre naravnost, vendar ves čas samo gor in dol...

Maribor In Your Pocket - National Liberation Monument
Appropriately located in Trg Svobode ('Freedom Square'), this spherical bronze memorial pays tribute to those gunned down by the Nazis during World War II for rising up against occupation. By walking around the monument you can look at public announcements of the executions of the 667 people who were condemned to death by the German forces. Erected in 1975, the sculpture is the work of local artist Slavko Tihec, and despite its sombre purpose the good citizenry of Maribor have dubbed the monument 'Kojak' because of its resemblance to a bald head.

Celje In Your Pocket - Castle Highlights
Arguably the grandest castle in all of Slovenia, while it isn't as completely restored as Ljubljana castle in the capital and doesn't possess the breathtaking alpine cliff top location of that in Bled, its sprawling grounds, eventful history, sweeping views over the city and surrounding countryside, and the generally imposing appearance of its partially restored fortress walls and towers are truly unique amongst any and all of its domestic rivals.
Originally built by the Heunburg family on the hills to the southeast of the bustling medieval market town of Celje in either the late 12th or early 13th centuries, the oldest parts of the castle are the fortified western walls and the central residential buildings which were surrounded by inner walls as well as a moat. Most of the original castle was destroyed in fighting between competing families not long after its initial construction, and eventually came into the possession of the Lords of Sanneck in 1333 - who became known as the Counts of Celje from 1341 onwards and were the most important medieval aristocrats in the territory of present-day Slovenia. Over the next hundred years the Counts rebuilt, expanded and greatly improved the castle and its grounds, however, when their rule ended with the murder of the last male heir in 1456, the property was bequeathed to the Habsburg monarchy in accordance with a previously signed inheritance agreement.
After the change in ownership, the castle managed to maintain its position as one of the most important fortresses in all of the eastern Alps for some two hundred years, but slowly began to fall into disrepair towards the latter half of the 16th century. It ceased to be a residence in 1795, and was purchased by a farmer eight years later, who began to use the site as a quarry. In 1846 the ruins were bought by the regional governor, and restoration work began which continues to the present day - making it easily the longest ongoing renovation project in Slovenia.
Today the castle is the most visited tourist site in Celje with over 70,000 visitors per year, and is also popular with locals, especially during the weekends and for weddings. The grounds are entered from a gate in the southernmost fortifications, where there's a fully-stocked branch of the Celje Tourist Infomation Office and a little further along a pleasant café. The central part of the site is dominated by the rebuilt Fredrick's Tower and an open air theatre, which is the main venue for the various performances that take place during the summer long Living History medieval festival. After crossing a wooden bridge over the one-time inner moat, you reach the upper part of the castle, where most of the buildings are located and where you'll find mesmerising views of the city below and rolling hills and valleys stretching to the alps in the distance. The entire grounds, including some dozen or more sites, are well marked with informative signs giving information and history in both Slovene and English.
Gostilna pri Kmetec on the hill opposite Celje castle is a good lunch option with filling Slovenian delicacies.

Sometimes you need to take the back roads and get off the beaten tourist track to discover the real people, nature, and beauty of a place. In Slovenia this means taking the back roads to Bela Krajina. I had a chance to spend three full days in the area, while this drone footage simply shows the vibe and scenery around the Kolpa River and Big Berry Resort, my various posts tell a much more important story. Driving Austria: B69 Spielfeld - Bad Radkersburg - 4k scenic drive Mur Valley - border area AT/SLO
We are exploring now the border area between Austia and Slovenia, driving through The Mur Valley. We discover a nice flatland region, finishing the drive in the town of Bad Radkersburg, a spa town featuring a thermal spring with a temperature of 80 °C (176 °F). This and the longest sunshine duration in Austria make it an attractive site for tourism, enjoy!
