In today’s video I’m sharing with you my 12-day South Island, New Zealand Road trip Itinerary!
Last January I embarked on a road trip adventure with two friends to explore the magic of New Zealand. Our goal was to witness breathtaking landscapes, encounter wildlife, enjoy the great outdoors, stay in unique places, and see as much as we could without feeling too rushed or exhausted. Having now completed this epic trip, I’m glad to say our itinerary achieved all that and more!
In this video I share my comprehensive itinerary, highlight our favorite spots, showcase some unique places to stay, and review our favorite activities/tours. This itinerary breakdown is meant to give you a better idea of what you can see and do in 12 days, and give you ideas for places worth visiting.
This is by no means the ‘best’ itinerary of the South Island. We may have missed a few of the most visited spots and instead ventured off the beaten trail at times. I hope you get inspired to visit both the tourist hot spots as well as some more unique and ‘obscure’ places we visited on the island.
Highlights of our trip included Queenstown, Fiordland National Park, Doubtful Sound, Te Anau, Oamaru and the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony, Akaroa and the Akaroa Dolphins Tour, SiloStay at Little River, The Hooker Valley Track in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, Lake Tekapo, the city of Christchurch, and more!

After yesterday, checking out the Moonshine Museum and St James Theatre in Gore, we have found even more things to do in Gore in the Southland region of New Zealand! Join us for the Eastern Southland Gallery and Dolamore Park in Gore!
This morning, we pop into the Eastern Southland Gallery, an art gallery in Gore and a free thing to do in Gore! The Eastern Southland Art Gallery is set in a historic library and really has a huge offering of art from all over the world. This New Zealand art gallery is pretty huge. We did not expect this in such a quiet corner of New Zealand!
After the art gallery, we head back to Dolamore Park which is where we have been camping for the last couple of days while in Gore. Dolamore Park has cheap powered sites for campervans, as well as a wealth of hikes in Gore and even mountain biking trails in Gore. We go check out one of the Dolamore Park walks that goes through the forest foothills of the Hokonui Hills. Dolarmore Park is well worth checking out for some walks in Gore.

Cathedral Gully - Gore Bay Secret Lookout! New Zealand South Island Road Trip (4K)
This video is about Cathedral Gully Lookout at, Gore Bay, New Zealand. The amazing spot was not on our itinerary initially. We just drove passing it on our way from Nelson to Christchurch by chance. I am so glad that we stopped at the road sign to check it out. It is such a beautiful place with the late afternoon lighting. We were the only group there to enjoy all of this!

Gore Bay is a beautiful bay near Cheviot, North Canterbury. It is a small place that retains a charm that has been lost in other small New Zealand, coastal communities.
Gore Bay has a basic, well maintained and functional camping ground that is very relaxed and friendly. A perfect place to take the family camping.
Gore Bay is safe for swimming, boogie boarding and surfing, and has plenty of rock pools and bays to explore.
