Layser Cave, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington State
On a sunny July day we took the short and easy hike on trail number 290, located in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, to explore the archeological site of Layser Cave. As bonus along the way you will pass an over look with views into the Cispus Valley, Mount Adams, Tongue Mountain, and Juniper Ridge.
Layser Cave, discovered in 1982, it is one of the most extensive archeological sites in this part of the state. Animal bones and stone tools found in the cave have allowed archeologists to trace human history here back nearly 7,000 years.
Today you can duck into the small cave and imagine what it must have been like so many years ago.

The weather was certainly a factor on this trip with heavy rain overnight but also a stunning sunset overlooking a lake and Mount Adams.
