Moulin de la Tuilerie - VINGT Paris
Once home to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Le Moulin de la Tuilerie is a spectacular royal estate dating back several hundred years and situated in a picturesque valley just to the south-west of Paris.
Boasting a fascinating history, it was notably the weekend retreat of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor (one-time Prince of Wales, Edward, and his wife Wallis Simpson) for some 20 years. During this time, they entertained the international glitterati of the 1950's and 60's, including Maria Callas, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Cecil Beaton. Unique to the market, this breathtakingly beautiful residence sits in rolling countryside, on the edge of the Chevreuse Forest, next to the village of Gif-sur-Yvette. Formerly an 18th-century mill, the 26-acre estate occupies the rare position of being at once rural and at the same time only 30 minutes from the centre of Paris. This makes it the ideal location to take advantage of all that is offered by the capital, from the galleries and museums to the restaurants and bars, as well as this quiet and unspoilt part of France. Built from the local honey-coloured limestone, this enchanting country retreat comprises six separate properties, a large events space, stunning landscaped grounds and a polo pitch. In total, the estate can sleep 36 guests, making it the perfect place for entertaining large numbers of friends and family, with plenty of room for on-site staff as well. With no expense spared, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor also embarked on a prestigious renovation, headed up by the famous interior designer Stéphane Boudin, who went on to do the White House for the Kennedys in Washington D.C, while the grounds were designed by the great English garden designer Russel Page. Prior to the royal tenure, the property was owned by the renowned artist and fashion illustrator, Adrien Étienne (who became known as Drian) and he himself hosted many famous artists here - including Picasso. Today, Le Moulin de la Tuilerie would make a truly magical home for anyone wanting the peace and quiet of this idyllic corner of the countryside and the proximity of Paris. Situated just 10 minutes from the station at Gif-Sur-Yvette, which is on the RER network and links directly to Paris with trains every 15 minutes, central Paris is 30 minutes away, Gare du Nord is one hour, Orly Airport is 30 minutes and Charles de Gaulle is an hour and 15 minutes.
#VingtLoves: It's not every day that the opportunity comes along to live like a Duke and Duchess, especially so close to Paris, and we are expecting interest in this unique country home from around the world. Contact us now!

The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the Left Bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986. It is one of the largest art museums in Europe. The museum building was originally a railway station, Gare d'Orsay, constructed for the Chemin de Fer de Paris à Orléans and finished in time for the 1900 Exposition Universelle to the design of three architects: Lucien Magne, Émile Bénard and Victor Laloux. By 1939 the station's short platforms had become unsuitable for the longer trains that had come to be used for mainline services. After 1939 it was used for suburban services and part of it became a mailing centre during World War II. In 1970, permission was granted to demolish the station but Jacques Duhamel, Minister for Cultural Affairs, ruled against plans to build a new hotel in its stead. The station was put on the supplementary list of Historic Monuments and finally listed in 1978. The suggestion to turn the station into a museum came from the Directorate of the Museums of France. The idea was to build a museum that would bridge the gap between the Louvre and the National Museum of Modern Art at the Georges Pompidou Centre. The plan was accepted by Georges Pompidou and a study was commissioned in 1974. In 1978, a competition was organized to design the new museum. In 1981, the Italian architect Gae Aulenti was chosen to design the interior including the internal arrangement, decoration, furniture and fittings of the museum. Finally in July 1986, the museum was ready to receive its exhibits. It took 6 months to install the 2000 or so paintings, 600 sculptures and other works. The museum officially opened in December 1986 by then-president François Mitterrand.

saint denis walking tour paris france part 4 #paris #france #walkingtour #saintdenis
Saint-Denis (/ˌsæ̃dəˈniː/, French: [sɛ̃d(ə)ni] (About this soundlisten)) is a commune in the northern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 9.4 km (5.8 mi) from the centre of Paris. Saint-Denis is a subprefecture (French: sous-préfecture) of the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, being the seat of the arrondissement of Saint-Denis.
Saint-Denis is home to the royal necropolis of the Basilica of Saint-Denis and was also the location of the associated abbey. It is also home to France's national football and rugby stadium, the Stade de France, built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Saint-Denis is a formerly industrial suburb currently changing its economic base. Until the 3rd century, Saint-Denis was a small settlement called Catolacus or Catulliacum, probably meaning estate of Catullius, a Gallo-Roman landowner. About 250 AD, the first bishop of Paris, Saint Denis, was martyred on Montmartre hill and buried in Catolacus. Shortly after 250 AD, his grave became a shrine and a pilgrimage centre, with the building of the Abbey of Saint Denis, and the settlement was renamed Saint-Denis.
In 1793, during the French Revolution, Saint-Denis was renamed Franciade in a gesture of rejection of religion. In 1803, however, under the Consulate of Napoléon Bonaparte, the city reverted to its former name of Saint-Denis.
