Monterrey, Mexico - Why We Keep Coming Back! (Nuevo Leon Travel Guide & Vlog 2022)
Monterrey is one of Mexico's largest cities. It's known as the industrial heartland of Mexico and is famous for all of the industry and wealth in the area. Already this makes it a fascinating city with an incredible food scene, unique blend of cultures, and a city of stark contrasts from one area to the next. However, as far as tourism is concerned... it's AMAZING and WAY underrated. There is so much to do in the area, especially for outdoor lovers! It has really continued to blow our minds each time we visit just how beautiful this part of Mexico is. Massive mountains surround the city and the views inside the nearby parks rival any in the National Parks of the United States hands down. Yet, they get very little international, or even national, attention. There are also cascading waterfalls just outside of the city, crystal clear mountain streams, and beautiful small towns surrounded by all the nature. We visited the 'Pueblo Magico', Santiago, on a short bus ride from the Monterrey city center. It's a beautiful place known for it's Malecón on the lake and for it's nearby waterfalls and crystal clear water swimming holes.
In the city of Monterrey itself, you'll find an exciting contrasts of architecture, cuisine, and lifestyles. Everything from the hustle and bustle to laid back, quiet streets. There are parks that make you feel like you're visiting the future, and markets straight from the past. Colorful congested barrios are tucked up in the mountains next to towering, modern skyscrapers. Actually, the tallest skyscraper in Mexico is in San Pedro Garza Garcia, a suburb of Monterrey. It it also Mexico's wealthiest area. The city also has a more colonial old neighborhood with great nightlife, a beautiful riverwalk where you can get boat rides, and world class museums that are now some of our favorites in the world.
Hope you enjoy our second Monterrey video, make sure to check out the first. Where we mainly stay directly in the city:

Welcome to our video on the top things to do in Monterrey, Mexico. As one of Mexico’s most modern cities, Monterrey is known for its industrial prowess, stunning mountain landscapes, and vibrant culture. Here are some of the best places to visit and activities to enjoy in Monterrey.
Start your visit at Macroplaza, the heart of Monterrey and one of the largest public squares in the world. This expansive area is surrounded by important landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, Faro del Comercio, and Palacio de Gobierno. You can stroll through the green spaces, admire the monuments, and soak in the city’s historical atmosphere.
Next, visit the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MARCO), one of Mexico’s premier art museums. The museum features a wide range of contemporary Mexican and international art. Its striking architecture, designed by Ricardo Legorreta, is worth admiring on its own. The exhibits change regularly, offering a dynamic experience for art lovers.
For a dose of nature, head to Parque Fundidora, a massive urban park built on the site of a former steel foundry. The park offers everything from walking trails to lakes and is home to various cultural and entertainment venues. The Museo del Acero (Steel Museum), located within the park, showcases Monterrey’s industrial history and the role of steel in the city’s development.
You can even take a boat ride along the Santa Lucía Riverwalk, which connects Parque Fundidora to the city center, offering picturesque views along the way.
Outdoor enthusiasts should not miss Cerro de la Silla, Monterrey’s iconic saddle-shaped mountain. There are challenging hiking trails leading up to the summit, which offer panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes. It’s a must-do activity for adventure seekers and nature lovers.
Another popular destination for nature lovers is Chipinque Ecological Park, located in the Sierra Madre Oriental. This park offers excellent hiking and biking trails, as well as beautiful views of the Monterrey skyline and rugged mountains. It’s a great spot for picnicking, wildlife spotting, and taking in the natural beauty of the region.
To experience Monterrey’s vibrant nightlife, head to the Barrio Antiguo district. Once the city’s colonial heart, Barrio Antiguo is now a lively area filled with bars, restaurants, and clubs. The historic architecture and narrow streets give it a unique charm, making it a perfect place to enjoy music, food, and the local scene.
