general information The Podlaskie Voivodeship is located in the northeast of Poland. It got its name from the Podlasie region, which was located on this territory. In the post-war period, the voivodship was called Bialystok, after the name of its administrative center. The region is located on the border with Belarus and Lithuania and is the coldest part of the country with high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter.
Capital The administrative center is the city of Bialystok with a small population of 300 thousand inhabitants. It is located on the Byala River, from which it inherited its name: “the slope at the White River” (Byala from Polish - “White”).
Nature The Podlaskie Voivodeship is rightly famous for its nature: 32% of the territory is protected, and various parks are responsible for the picturesque landscapes, of which there are many. Among the most famous are the Belovezhsky National Park, which, in addition to beautiful places of virgin nature - murmuring clear rivers, flowering meadows and endless oak forests, offers tourists to explore a variety of flora and fauna that feel great in their native land.
Main cities: Bialystok, Augustow, Lomza, Grajevo Bialystok - the capital - is known as the green lungs of Poland, because about a third of the land is occupied by squares, and forests stretch over 1,500 hectares. The architecture of the city is diverse: more than 200 buildings are considered historical monuments. Augustow got its name from the Augustow Canal located on its territory. The city is framed by 9 lakes and the Augustow Forest. The town is known as the water capital of Poland. It is especially appreciated among lovers of outdoor activities, mainly water. Lomza is a small old town located on the Narew River. Lomza is most suitable for lovers of history and sightseeing tours, because the city is saturated with history through and through. Grajevo is a very small town, which is an important link in the railway communication between Poland and Belarus: the Bresto-Grajevo railway is located here, and an important transport of goods passes through the local customs.
What to watch? The Augustow Canal stretches for 102 km across Poland and Belarus. It unites the Neman and Vistula rivers into one artery. In addition to its strategic importance in matters of ship traffic between Eastern and Central Europe, the canal is notable for its picturesque views, protected by UNESCO. After the end of the First World War, the canal gained great popularity in the field of tourism: since then, maritime holidays have been held on its colorful lands, which can still be seen today. You can escape from the hustle and bustle in the provincial town of Suwalki. Now the city hosts guided tours suitable for history buffs, and for children there are exciting mythological walks, for example, “Gnomes exist”. It is worth visiting Wigry Lake with the Vigry National Park around. This is the largest body of water in the region. The water in the lake is constantly updated due to the peculiarities of the location, so its fauna is magnificent. You can look at the inhabitants on a walk along the lake on a ship with a transparent bottom.
Attractions The residence of the Crown Hetman Klementy Branicki is located in Bialystok and is known as the Branicki Palace. The luxury of decoration and exquisite decoration attracts tourists. On its territory you can find a greenhouse, an arsenal, a guest pavilion and other buildings. Among the sacred buildings, one of the most attractive from the point of view of history can be called St. Nicholas Cathedral. The building is decorated in the style of classicism, typical of Orthodox buildings of the 19th century. In Bialystok, you can find the town hall, which is now the Museum of Podlasie. The building dates back to the 18th century, and on its territory there are art and archaeological exhibitions. Open Air Museum in Jurowce - Podlaski Museum of Folk Culture. Wooden architecture from the 19th century tells the history of Białystok, Suwałka and Lomza. Alfons Karny is an outstanding sculptor born in Bialystok. You can get acquainted with art directly related to the history of the voivodeship and Poland as a whole at the Museum of Sculpture of Alfon Karna, located in Bialystok. Exhibitions dedicated to contemporary art and lessons for young people are also held there.

Walbrzych (German: Waldenburg, Czech: Valbr(ich or Valdenburk) is a city in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in south-western Poland, with 125,773 inhabitants (2006). From 1975--1998 it was the capital of Walbrzych Voivodeship; it is now the seat of Walbrzych County. Walbrzych is by far the largest city in Poland that does not itself form a separate county (powiat), having given up that status in 2003. (The next largest such town is Inowroclaw, population 77,313.) Walbrzych lies approximately 70 kilometres (43.5 miles) south-west of the regional capital Wroclaw, and about 10 km from the Czech border.
Ksiaz (German: Schloss Fürstenstein) is a castle in Silesia, Poland near the town of Walbrzych. It was built in 1288-1292 under Bolko I the Strict. It lies within a protected area called Ksiaz Landscape Park.
History ... The original fortification was destroyed in the year 1263 by Ottokar II of Bohemia. Bolko I, Duke of Swidnica and Jawor built a new castle between 1288 and 1292. Duke Bolko II of Swidnica died in 1368 without having children with his wife Agnes von Habsburg. After her death in the year 1392, King Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia obtained the castle. In 1401, Janko z Chociemic obtained the castle. The Bohemian Hussites occupied the castle between 1428-1429. In 1464 Birka z Nasiedla obtained the castle from the Bohemian crown. He sold it to Hans von Schellendorf. This second castle was destroyed in 1482 by Georg von Stein. In the year 1509 Konrad I von Hoberg (from 1714: Hochberg) obtained the castle hill. The Hochberg family owned the castle until 1941. It was a part of the Project Riese until 1945. The castle was occupied by the Red army in 1945. Most artifacts were lost or destroyed.

Świdnica is a town that occupies the south-western part of Poland. What is the undeniable attraction of the whole city is the fact that both its center - the Old Town, and the outskirts are surrounded by as many as 11 beautiful and picturesque parks. Due to its geographic location, Świdnica is undoubtedly an important tourist center, visited by many visitors from various parts of Poland. In addition to its geographical values, the city can also boast some objects that make its visit a real paradise for many tourists. When talking about the monuments of Świdnica, it is necessary to mention some sacred buildings, which are very important in this city. One of such buildings is certainly the Church of Peace under the invocation of the Holy Trinity, which not only plays a significant role in Świdnica - it is also considered the most valuable sacred building related to the Protestant art of the entire Silesia. It is also a building that can boast of being the largest wooden church in the entire European continent. This sacred building is closely related to the Thirty Years' War, or rather its end, during which it was decided to build a church. Another extremely fascinating sacred building in Świdnica, which is visited by many tourists with great enthusiasm, is the cathedral of Saint Stanislaus and Wenceslaus. This monument also stands out in a special way both in Silesia and the whole country. It is the cathedral tower, which ranks third in terms of height in Poland, and it is the second among the buildings in Silesia. While in Świdnica, it is impossible not to go, of course, in the direction of the famous Old Town, where the Świdnica market and the town hall are located. The unusual ornament of the market square, which is another considerable attraction for tourists, is a group of sculptures, which is the work of a local artist - Georg Weber. There are many more interesting objects in Świdnica that tell about the history, tradition and culture of this city.

Today's walking tour took us to Poland to the town of Walim, where there is a mysterious object that we intend to visit. This object is the tunnels called the river complex and is one of the seven objects that make up the Riese Complex. It is a complex of unknown destination, built by the Nazis by the prisoners of war and forced laborers. Many people died during the construction of this complex as a result of hard work, hunger, and the bestial treatment of workers by the guards.
