Where are the best places to live in the northwest of England? Today, we’re going to the Northwest of England. It’s the third most populated among the nine official regions of England. The northwest region is where you’d find the ceremonial counties of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. There are beautiful cities, towns, and villages in this region with the last known population of 7 million. Among them are those on the Times’ list of the best places to live in the UK. For instance, Stockport in Greater Manchester which is on this list sits comfortably on that one. In this video, we’ll look at the 7 best places to live in the Northwest of England. We also need to inform you that this list agrees with The Times journal.
7. Sefton Park, Liverpool
Let’s begin with this address in Liverpool. Sefton Park in Liverpool is a long and winding road leading to L8. You can relax here if you really want to enjoy your stay somewhere in the northwest of England. The birthplace of the Beatles is full of character, spacious, and walkable. Honestly, if you’re looking for the best address on Merseyside, you’ll find it close to Sefton Park. This is the new “knowledge quarter” where life sciences are booming. We’re elated to see Everton’s new stadium elevating the once-neglected waterfront and the entertainment scene here is being rejuvenated.
The fabulous, family-friendly suburbs of Aigburth to the south or Mossley Hill in Liverpool ensure easy connections to the city centre. Now, Sefton Park itself is a match for any world’s city-centre green space. It’s modelled on the Wirral’s Birkenhead Park, and you know, it was also the template for New York’s Central Park. Sefton Park is lovingly cared for by the Friends of Sefton Park community group. That’s why it has kept all of its Victorian-era elegance, found in a lake, fountains, the palm house, and monuments. Everything, from athletics to music festivals, finds a home here.
6. Ribble Valley, Lancashire
Lancashire is ably represented on this list—and by none other than Ribble Valley, an administrative county and a local government district with a borough status. This rural refuge has all it takes to live the good life. Almost everyone in the place is healthy, happy, and enjoys great grub. Let’s start by looking at it through its meticulously curated cheese shop and deli. It’s one of the small outlets positioning Ribble Valley as a nice place to sum up the feast of delights.
Once upon a time, and not long ago, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) named it both the happiest and the healthiest place in the UK. ONS based that rating on a nationwide questionnaire, sampling the opinions of different demographics. This quiet corner of England may wear its affluence lightly. But its schools and scenery can stand any in the land.
5. Prestwich, Greater Manchester
We now turn our attention to the first of the two representatives of Greater Manchester on this list. And this is Prestwich, a town in the metropolitan borough of Bury. The cool, calm, and connected suburban superstar offers parks and recreation. Prestwich is an emblem symbolizing Manchester’s hardworking heart. Thus, if you’re desirous of sharing the buzz while still enjoying your garden, you only need to take a 25-minute tram trip to Prestwich where you can find roomy Victorian terraces. This well-connected suburb only 5 kilometres north of the Northern Quarter gives the likes of well-established favourites a run for their money. Don’t be shocked to learn the average house price is about 100,000 pounds lower.
All that is besides investment that is coming to the town. As just an instance of this, the battered red-brick 1970s shops located at the Longfield Centre are expecting a 100 million pounds makeover. Also, in the pipeline are a market hall, a health centre, electric vehicle charging points, cycle storage with parcel lockers, and up to 210 new homes.

How a Little Park in England Changed New York Forever
When the New York City authorities approved the construction of the vast, expansive Central Park in the 1850s, their aim was to create an iconic, picturesque public space that could rival the best private parks in the world. The winning design - by Fred Olmsted and Calvert Vaux - stood out because it didn't resemble other public or private spaces. It shunned symmetry in favour of organic lines. It did away with huge greens in favour of several smaller ones. And it had bodies of water that looked and felt like they'd been there forever. They introduced rockeries, hills and valleys, and created a park that was juxtaposed to the grid-like street system of the rest of Manhattan. Today Central Park is the most visited attraction in the city - a green oasis in the midst of all the concrete and steel. But few recognise that Olmsted's ideas were influenced by a visit he had made several years earlier, to a tiny public park in the North of England. This was Birkenhead Park - the first municipal public park in the world.
