Currarevagh House, Irish Country House, Connemara, Co. Galway - Ireland's Blue Book
Currarevagh is a graceful Victorian Country House, set in a 180-acre private estate on the shores of Lough Corrib in Connemara. Currarevagh offers genuine Irish hospitality, a timeless experience in a unique setting which has welcomed guests for 130 years. Peace and tranquillity reign, with elegant bedrooms and comfortable drawing rooms in a beautifully maintained historic house, all surrounded by majestic scenery and stunning vistas.
Currarevagh (pronounced “Curra – reeva”) still retains the atmosphere of a bygone age where the emphasis is on hospitality and service. It is run along the lines of a private country house rather than as an impersonal hotel and while extremely comfortable it is not pretentious. The tranquil informality lends itself to those seeking a relaxing few days, enjoying our house and grounds or exploring the beauty of Lough Corrib, Connemara, Galway and beyond. Guests at Currarevagh House can relax in the peace and tranquillity of the woodls, gardens and surrounding waters of Lough Corrib. The idyllic setting of the Hotel in Oughterard means all of Connemara in on our door step, from The Sky Road to Kylemore Abbey and beyond to the beauty of Roundstone and Clifden. The ferry to the Aran Islands is only 30 minutes drive.
From Ireland's Blue Book website: The estate is a European Special Area of Conservation with woods to explore, abundant wildlife to be spotted, maps to guide you on long walks, boats so you can escape to your private island and lots of space to unwind and retreat from the outside world. Currarevagh is perfectly located for Connemara and all it has to offer, the Aran Islands and Galway City, all along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Food and feasting are a central part of what they do, a huge source of pride. Lucy has cooked professionally for over 20 years from London to Sydney and back again, constantly innovating and always creative. They strive to give a sense of place using the best of what is available from local farmers and artisan suppliers. They do not have communal dining. Breakfast sees a big emphasis on homemade goods from granola to kombucha and yoghurts; Picnics available each day and Afternoon Tea for everyone staying at Currarevagh. The unique ‘Hatch Bar’ has everything from a growing Organic and Natural wine list to local gins, beers, and homemade concoctions.
Currarevagh is also available for private rental for 12 to 20 guests. Please note it is not suitable for children under 8.

Farmleigh House and Estate is a 78-acre estate with historic house, open to the public all year round, inside Dublin’s Phoenix Park. Bought by the Government of Ireland in June 1999 to provide accommodation for high-level meetings and visiting guests of the nation. It hosts many events, guided tours and the grounds are open to the public. Farmleigh is a unique representation of its heyday, the Edwardian period. Edward Cecil Guinness, great-grandson of Arthur Guinness, constructed Farmleigh around a smaller Georgian house in the 1880s. According to his tastes, the new building merged a variety of architectural styles. Many of the artworks and furnishings that Guinness collected remain in the house. There is a stunning collection of rare books and manuscripts in the library. The extensive pleasure-grounds contain wonderful Victorian and Edwardian ornamental features, with walled and sunken gardens and scenic lakeside walks. The estate also boasts a working farm with a herd of Kerry cows. Take a guided tour of the house before visiting the estate grounds and enjoying refreshment in the onsite restaurant. A great family day out in Dublin. Estate open all year round. (As Farmleigh is a working government building, it may close at short notice due to official business).
