impressive Texas I-20 Travel Information Center (east near Waskom and Louisiana border)

This is the really impressive Texas I-20 Travel Information Center on I-20 in Waskom just across the Louisiana state line. The date is May 21, 2019 and this was as nice a travel information center as I've seen anywhere including Maryland which had amazing ones. This one had information about a number of different regions of Texas as well as staffed personnel both inside and out and it was just super nice and helpful for anyone vacationing in Texas who may not have finalized their plans. I was really impressed.

We Went to Every Bowlin's Travel Center in 36 Hours

Throughout the southwest, there are a number of travel centers run by a company called Bowlin's Travel Centers. Since the 1930s, these roadside stops have been a part of the roadtrip experience when driving through New Mexico and Arizona. With stops like The Thing?, Running Indian, and Akela Flats, these are some of the most iconic trading posts and roadside attractions in the area. We decided to visit every single one of them. In 36 hours.

Claude M. Bowlin moved to New Mexico in 1906 from Oklahoma and in 1912 he began trading with the local Native Americans. Throughout the 1920s he was involved with several trading posts in the Gallup and Farmington areas of New Mexico.

In 1935, Bowlin sold his interest in another trading company and opened the Old Crater Trading Post on Route 66. This was the first of many trading posts Bowlin would own and operate through the years.

Today, Bowlin's owns 10 roadside stops in New Mexico and Arizona. In this video we drive over 700 miles to stop at every one of them over the course of two days. Join us as we see more snacks, Native American goods, fireworks, and odd souvenirs than we know what to do with.

9-11 Remembrance Garden (Winslow, Arizona)

If you are in the Flagstaff, AZ area, or even driving by on I-40, you will want to pull off at the Winslow, AZ exit to take a look at the 9-11 Remembrance Garden. It contains two pieces of structural beams that came from the collapsed Twin Towers in New Your City. This memorial reminds us that we should never forget that day. This remembrance garden, although simple, does a great job of reminding us about that day. Also, make a stop in downtown Winslow to check out the Standing on the Corner Park made famous by the Eagle's song Take It Easy. We thoroughly enjoyed both sites in the small town of Winslow along old Route 66. We highly recommend it to be part of your epic Arizona trip!!
