The Living Cost Index is a measure of how expensive it is to live in a particular place.
The US has a cost of living index of 73, so if a country has an index of, for example, 36.5, it means that the cost of living there is on average only half of the cost of living in the US.
Now that you know all the criteria, time to start our top 8!
In the 8th place is El Salvador.
Until a few years ago El Salvador was a VERY dangerous place. In fact, the most dangerous in the world. In the last few years, it went through a dramatic transformation that turned it into the SAFEST country in the entire continent.
You heard it right.
El Salvador today has a homicide rate of only 2.4 in 2023. This is the same homicide rate of the European continent. To put it into perspective, the homicide rate of the US is 6.4.
The cost of living index there is also very low, only 29.6, meaning that on average life costs less than half of what you would pay in the US.
Despite recent improvements, the Human Development Index (HDI) in El Salvador is still quite low, only 0.674, so maybe that is why it is below the other countries in this list.
In 7th place in Costa Rica
With an HDI of 0.81, Costa Rica has a development level similar to Thailand or the Bahamas.
If you watched our other videos, probably you noticed that Costa Rica figures among the best on a lot of lists.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.
We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

CIVIL WAR FORT in Los Angeles / Drum Barracks
CIVIL WAR SITE LA and a US MILITARY CAMEL CORE ? I visit the Drum Barracks AMERICAN CIVIL WAR site in LOS ANGELES , learn about California's important role in the American Civil War, and the CAMEL CORE, the US militaries 1800's experiment with camels in the Army which were based here ! I hope you find this episode as interesting as I did in making it. I had no idea there was a Civil War site and history in Los Angeles or in the State of California. And I had no idea about a Camel Core stationed in LA in the 1850-60's.
Drum Barracks sits in Wilmington, just west of LA and is a wonderful half-day trip for the family, anyone interested in learning more about unique places, or looking for something different to do in LA.

Exploring this Massive Sea Fortress in the Philippines
800meters off the coast of Maragondon in Cavite was one of the defense forts at the entrance to Manila Bay established by the United States.
The long, narrow island is surrounded by sheer cliffs over 30 meters. The whole island and fort has an area of 18 hectares with the highest elevation at 56 meters.
The entire island was designated as Fort Frank, in honor of Brigadier General Royal T. Frank, as part of the Harbor Defenses of Manila and Subic Bays built by the Philippine Department of the US Army in the early 1900s.
