Fort Atkinson, WI
I came into this town after exploring Rustic Road 84 in Jefferson County, WI. This city was named after General Henry Atkinson who built a temporary fort during the Black Hawk War in 1832, located along the Rock River.
There was significant growth during the mid-19th century with the arrival of the Northwest Railroad and North Western Manufacturing Company. Enjoy the day!!!

Jefferson County Activities
Outdoor recreation meets small town living! Halfway between Madison and Milwaukee, Jefferson County is a rural oasis of activity.
With over 450 miles of snowmobile and club trails, it’s easy to trade out the beaten path for a rustic escape through the frosted trees. Local parks also provide a picturesque backdrop for snowshoeing and skiing. The Jefferson County Dog Park provides your pupper a whopping 109 acres for roaming and running!
Legendary Lake Mills kicks it into gear each winter with the Knickerbocker Ice Festival, where the community comes together. A hand-carved ice bar, ice softball and ice golf will be sure to keep your blood moving. The winter madness continues downtown with ice carving, ice skating and even ice cream!
As the snow melts, the Jefferson County trails come to life. The locals hit up The Glacial River Trail for a bike ride or pleasant walk through the Wisconsin countryside. With local hot spots to conveniently jump off at, one can explore a number of towns along the route and even snag a tasty frozen treat!
The River trails in Jefferson County are aquatic byways that offer a scenic atmosphere for paddling, fishing and even birdwatching. Jefferson County parks also provide a diverse array of restful and natural spaces. Aztalan is one such park that also transports us back in time. Wisconsin’s first town, this park's beauty is matched by its historical awe.
Finally we get into the mood for adventure. With three nationally recognized powersports companies that retail sea-doos, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and motorcycles, this County knows speed. There’s no need to solo the open road either. Spyder Owners and Ryders (SOAR) invites the motorcycling community to come together for some “wind therapy.” And the breeze really picks up at the Jefferson Speedway, where drivers get their dose of adrenaline.
So there you have it! From the tranquil riverways and rural bike routes to the winter trails and country roads, it really is here in Jefferson County where outdoor recreation meets small town living!
