Travel - Italy - Modena - Fiorano Modenese - FEEL THE VIBE - VLOG - GEZİ - BravoMerto (TUR)

Ferrari museums in Modena and Maranello.

Our route south overlanding in our Land Rover Defender took us past two Ferrari museums. One in Modena, the other in Maranello, Italy. Definitely worth a visit.

Fiorano Circuit | Gestione Sportiva Ferrari in Maranello, Italy (2019)

The Fiorano Circuit is a private racetrack owned by Ferrari for development and testing purposes. It is located in Fiorano Modenese, near the Italian town of Maranello.

Built in 1972, it was originally 8.4 metres (27.6 ft) wide and 3000 metres (1.86 miles) long. In 1992, a chicane was added making it 3021 metres (1.88 miles) long, then in 1996 a new renovated track was introduced (a fast bend to replace a sharp corner at the end of the pit straight) which shortened the total length by 24 metres (0.02 miles). The average F1 lap speed is over 160 km/h (99 mph) and the F1 top speed is 290 km/h (180 mph). As Fiorano is a testing track, it has a wide range of corner types, with corner diameters between 370 metres (1,213.9 ft) and 13.71 metres (45.0 ft). Thus Ferrari is able to simulate corner and track types of other Grand Prix circuits.

The track is equipped with telemetry sensors and a large skidpad for tyre testing. In 2001 an irrigation system using rain collected in eight cisterns was installed to simulate wet track conditions. When Scuderia Ferrari are testing a F1 car at the track, it is common to see Tifosi watching the test from the roadside, which is the closest point from which the track is viewable to the public.

Ferrari customers are allowed to test drive new cars at the Fiorano circuit. The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is named after this track.

In the 16 years from the time the track opened until his death in 1988, Enzo Ferrari would either sit in his house which was located at the circuit and listen to, or actually sit track side and watch his beloved scarlet Formula One cars testing. Legend has it that this was actually the real reason that the old man had the circuit built, so he could enjoy his cars and his drivers without the presence of other F1 cars or the press. In reality Ferrari made the decision of building his own testing track when he realized that the Modena Autodrome could no longer serve this purpose.

A Pilgrimage to Maranello

Visiting Maranello has always been one thing on my bucket list. Now it was time to get that off the agenda and make a pilgrimage to that iconic Ferrari city, Maranello! Maranello is a city in the province of Modena, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. It is located about 18 kilometers south of the city of Modena. Maranello is especially known as the home of the Ferrari car factory, making it a major tourist destination for car enthusiasts and F1 fans.

The Ferrari factory is one of Maranello's most famous attractions, where you can learn about Ferrari's history, production processes and see legendary race cars. In addition, Maranello is also home to the Ferrari Museum, which houses a large collection of Ferrari cars and other exhibits. The museum consists of two buildings: Villa di Fiorano, the former home of Enzo Ferrari, and a modern exhibition space, which opened in 2012. Villa di Fiorano has been preserved in its original state and displays personal items and memories of the Ferrari family.

The modern showroom, on the other hand, offers an intriguing collection of Ferrari race cars, prototypes, design models and engines. The exhibition features both historical icons and the latest Ferrari models. Visitors can learn about the car manufacturing process, aerodynamics, engine technology and other Ferrari background information through interactive exhibits.

The museum also offers a unique opportunity to see Ferrari racing cars up close. It is possible to admire legendary Formula 1 cars, Le Mans racers and other successful Ferrari race cars.

In addition, the museum has a café and gift shop where you can buy Ferrari products and souvenirs. When visiting the museum, you should also consider a visit to the Ferrari factory, which organizes guided tours and offers a unique opportunity to see how these legendary cars are made. The Ferrari Museum in Maranello is a must-visit for all car enthusiasts, F1 fans and Ferrari fans who want to dive deeper into the world of this iconic car brand and experience its unique history and passion.

The city also hosts various events and festivals, including the Ferrari Challenge races and the annual Ferrari Cavalcade event, which brings together Ferrari owners and enthusiasts from around the world. Maranello is a charming little town with typical Italian charm. There are cosy restaurants, cafés and shops serving local delicacies and Ferrari products. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and offers opportunities for walks and cycling.

Maranello is also home to the Ferrari Academy, where the next Finnish Formula One promising player is currently studying; Tuukka The Tiger Taponen.

The Fiorano Circuit, also known as Autodromo di Fiorano, is a private motor racing circuit located in the city of Maranello, province of Modena, northern Italy. The track is particularly famous for being owned by Ferrari and its main test track. The Fiorano circuit has been used by Ferrari since 1972. It is designed to provide optimal test conditions for the development and performance testing of Ferrari race cars. The track is used to test new car models, adjust engine and suspension, and train drivers.

The circuit is approximately 2,976 kilometres long and includes several challenging corners, straight and technical sections. Fiorano Circuit provides an opportunity to test the acceleration, braking ability, maneuverability and overall performance of the car in various conditions.

Although the Fiorano Circuit is mainly used by Ferrari, from time to time the circuit has also been used for other motorsport events and testing. It is a popular destination for car enthusiasts who get the chance to experience Ferrari track conditions and gain a unique insight into the performance of Ferrari racing cars.

Just off the Fiorano circuit is Ristorante Montana, a restaurant popular with Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen. It is especially known for its delicious Italian dishes and elaborate cuisine. The restaurant's menu is varied and offers traditional Italian cuisine using high-quality local ingredients.

The interior of the restaurant is stylish and cozy, creating a warm atmosphere for diners. There are plenty of F1 memorabilia to look at. It also offers an outdoor terrace where guests can enjoy their meals in nice weather. Ristorante Montana is especially popular with locals and tourists. It attracts diners with its local delicacies such as pasta, risottos, fresh seafood, quality meat dishes, and delicious desserts.

All in all, Maranello is a unique destination for car and motorsport fans who want to experience the charm of Ferrari and dive deeper into the world of the legendary car brand.
