Famous for its biodiversity, pristine coral reefs and world class birding, Farasan Island, is one of the most beautiful Islands in the Kingdom. Comprise of over 80 Islands only three of them are inhabitant among which Farasan Island is the largest one. Once known as Portus Ferresanus, the Islands has rich history and great strategic importance since centuries.
Visiting Farasan Island is way too difficult than dreaming it. In this video I am going to share my experience of visiting Farasan Island with all the necessary minor details you must know before visiting it. So, this is going to be a sort of Question Answer Session.
Q1: The first question was about planning the trip, weather in Farasan in Aug and my recommendation to visit it.
Ans: You should plan your visit from Nov to Feb. That’s the best time to visit Farasan. Other months are too humid and hot.
Q2: How and from where to book the tickets?
Ans: The only way you can book the ferry tickets is to visit the ticketing office near Jazan Port. I would advice travelers to book complete itinerary from Jazan ticket office before leaving to Farasan. If you miss your return ticket then you can book it from Farasan office which is in the main town. All locations are given in the end of video description.
Q3: How to take cars to Farasan? What are documents required?
Ans: Tell the ticketing agent that you need to bring your car there. He will check the slots and let you know the soonest available slot. You need to present your Iqama and Car Istamara for registration purpose. If any visit visa holder is accompanied, then you must present their Passports as well.
Q4: What are the different types of tickets issued to bring cars to Farasan? How can I check my ticket type? What are the differences?
Ans: There are two kinds of tickets for cars. Number 1 is Confirmed Ticket and 2nd is Waiting Ticket. The difference lies in the words themselves… Confirmed means your car space is confirmed in the ferry. Waiting tickets are subjected to space availability after boarding all confirmed cars.
Q5: how much does the ferry cost for passengers and cars?
Ans: Ferry is completely free for all.
Q6: What are the ferry timings?
Ans: There are two timings. 1st in the morning at 7 am for which you must be at terminal at 5:30 am and 2nd at 1 pm for which you must be at terminal at 11:30 am.
Q7: How many ferry terminals are there at the ports (both Jazan and Farasan)?
Ans: There’s only 1 terminal at both locations but the entrances and checking points are separate for cars and passenger. Only car driver is allowed to go with car rest all passengers must go to passenger location.
Q8: What kind of checking is done at the departure and arrival terminals?
Ans: Checking is similar like any airport checking. Car checking is way stricter than passengers checking.
Q9: What are the items can I carry with me or in my car on ferry?
Ans: You can’t bring any flammable chemicals/explosives/gas cylinders etc.
Q10: What are the other protocols to be followed on ferry?
Ans: Mask is mandatory for all. Photography is not allowed. Movement is allowed only within the sitting area
Q11: How is ferry? Is it cleaned and well maintained?
Ans: MACNA operates world class ferries to Farasan Island with very high standards.
Q12: What are the services available on ferry?
Ans: Ferry is equipped with AC and has a very good tuck shop. Ferry has clean washrooms as well.
Q13: For how many days should I stay in Jazan to visit Farasan?
Ans: At least for 4 days.
Q14: How long should I stay in Farasan Island?
Ans: At least 1+ day
Q15: Can I find hotels in Farasan Island?
Ans: Yes
Q16: Can I find restaurants in Farasan Island?
Ans: Yes
Q17: Can I camp in Farasan Island?
Ans: Yes but camping is not recommended in summers due to hot and humid weather.
Q18: Can I find taxi/bus/rent a car service in Farasan if I don’t have car?
Ans: However, there’s no taxi or bus service, Yelo Rent a Car has now a branch at the Ferry terminal at Farasan Island.
Q19: what are the other not to do things on Island?
Ans: Don’t hunt or hurt any bird or animal specially in the protected areas. Don’t visit Ghazal reserve area without permit. Don’t trespass any old building or historical treasures
Q20: What are the things to do/places to visit in Farasan Island?
Ans: Deer Reserves, Al Qessar Village, Ottoman Castle, Al Maadi Bridge, Al Hasees Beach, Janaba Beach, Mangroves and Al Qandal Forest, Snorkelling, Birdwatching and Island Hopping

Ottoman Castle Farasan Island Saudi Arabia | Jizan Tourist Places | Jazan | جزيرة الفرسان جازان
The Ottoman castle in Farsan is one of the important archaeological and historical sites located in the north of the island about 50 km from the city of Jazan inside the Red Sea.
The Ottoman castle was used in the 20th century (Ottoman era) as a military base and is the oldest castle in the Farasan Islands which was built in the year 1832. At the beginning of its establishment many skirmishes between the local population and Ottoman forces took place as a resistance to Ottoman rule.
At that time, there was a battle between locals and the Ottomans. The Locals were fighting from the barracks and Ottoman soldiers were fighting in the open area on the port of Janaba (South Port), causing the soldiers to call for help.
However, 25 Ottoman Soldiers were killed in exchange of only 1 local from Bani Mehdi; the battle ended with the island's handover to the Ottoman Empire until the end of its rule after reconciliation and mediation with senior locals.
The castle was built on a rocky hill overlooking a large area of the island consisted of a fortified house having many gates, horse cleats, forts and wells in addition to many warehouses.
There was also a place of residence for 30 people, which was used by the Ottoman Soldiers with an area of about 500-meter square.
This castle was made of plaster and stones, whose materials are abundant on the island. Walls of the castle was built with sea stone, surrounded from the outside and inside with layers of plaster with openings to fire from them. Its roof was made of palm leaves placed on columns equipped with a tank of roofed wood.

The Maadi bridge, Farasan Island Saudi Arabia🇸🇦
The “Maadi” bridge site, linking the islands of “Forsan al-Kubra” and “Forsan al-Soghir” in Jizan, southwestern Saudi Arabia, is the preferred destination for photographers and tourists alike.
The Maadi bridge is the first to build the sea bridge before the King Fahd Bridge, that link between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
It said before 1985 the crossing between the two islands was carried out by camels (in shallow locations) and wooden boats until the island witnessed the birth of the “Maadi” bridge.

🗺️ Mountain Adventures and Hidden Trails: Our excitement to explore the majestic mountains was met with unexpected challenges. With tourism still developing in Saudi Arabia, finding hiking trails proved difficult. The lack of designated paths and English information, forced us to mainly stick to explorations with the car.
🚢 Farasan Islands: From Jizan, we boarded a ferry to the Farasan Islands, where we embarked on a quest to spot the island's famous gazelles with the help of a local ranger. Between the thrill of off-roading and the tranquility of beach time, Farasan offered a perfect blend of excitement and relaxation.
🚙 Steep Roads and Stunning Views: Back on the mainland, we continued our mountain exploration around Fayfan, tackling extremely steep roads that tested Tony the Toyota's limits. The stunning vistas made it worth it though.
💧 Wadi Lajab: In Wadi Lajab, renowned for its refreshing water pools, we had to make a quick evacuation due to incoming rain. As we drove out, we encountered the fascinating flower men of Saudi Arabia, known for their vibrant flower crowns and traditional attire—a captivating cultural tradition that left us in awe.
🏞️ Najran: Our journey concluded in Najran, where we once again found ourselves as a unique attraction, embraced by the local hospitality and rich cultural heritage.
