Kilpatrick Hills - Cochno Hill, Greenside Reservoir

How to get here
Cochno Hill is at the northern end of Cochno Road, off the A810 near Faifley.

Park at Auchnacraig car park, owned by West Dunbartonshire Council. Take the Cochno Road turning off the A810 just west of the Hardgate roundabout (beside the Goldenhill pub). Continue for about ½ mile (800 metres) until you reach a fork in the road. Take the right fork for the car park, about ½ mile (800 metres) further on at grid reference NS 503 740. The left fork leads you up to the start of the track to the reservoir at grid reference NS 497 737.
Get a taste of upland wilderness on this grassy peak above Greenside Reservoir, just a stone’s throw from central Glasgow. It’s a fairly strenuous climb to the reservoir along Loch Humphrey Burn but your rewards are a surprising sense of remoteness, as well as spectacular views over the city and across Scotland’s central belt. On a clear day you can see the Pentland Hills beyond Edinburgh to the south, and Ben Lomonds and the Trossachs to the north.

There’s about a mile (1.2km) of tracks leading up to the reservoir and back, which are a mix of forest road, stone paths and rough grassy tracks. There are some steep slopes and it can be very wet in places. Although it’s so close to Glasgow, you should expect upland conditions as you explore the Kilpatricks: make sure you are prepared.

Over Kilpatrick Braes To Loch Humphrey

Historic hill tracks perfect for a long walk or cycle
Right next to Kilpatrick train station.

Head into the hills above Old Kilpatrick to reach tranquil Loch Humphrey. The historic hill tracks that criss-cross the Kilpatrick Hills are ideal for walking or mountain biking. Watch out for waterfalls along the way, spot waterbirds on the loch or simply sit back and soak in the views over Glasgow and the central belt.

There are no formal trails here but the forest road that climbs up to the loch is easy to follow, if steep and - occasionally - quite muddy.

VJ Day in Clydebank: March-past (20/08/1995)

1995 was the 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, two events, which, in 1945, finally brought World War II to an end.

Like many other towns and cities across the United Kingdom, Clydebank, in West Dunbartonshire in Scotland, commemorated the two events with a gala day (in Dalmuir Park), parades, and services at the Town Hall, and in Duntocher and Old Kilpatrick.

This footage is taken from a video produced for Clydebank District Council's Libraries & Museums department.

Glasgow's Clyde Fastlink: White elephant or the answer to Bus Rapid Transit in Glasgow?

In this video, I take a stroll down the River Clyde in Glasgow and follow the route of the Fastlink route X19. Opened in stages from 2014 (as far as I can decipher...) Fastlink was to be Glasgow's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the city, but has since not reached the expectation or the grandeur that was originally hoped for the project. There's not a lot out there on Fastlink, and whatever is available is quite outdated, but have a look below :)
