This time we have decided to go for the cheapest coach from Bursa to Canakkale only to later realise that we might have made a mistake. We also explore the beautiful city centre of Canakkale and admire the horse that was used in the 2004 movie Troy starring Brad Pitt. Enjoy!

Çanakkale 4K Turkey 2022
Çanakkale in Turkey at the Dardanelles Strait is a very friendly town with a lively center with shops, book stores, restaurants and a ferry port. Not to miss the Trojan horse that was used in the movie Troy of 2004 and was gifted to the city, where it has been displayed since September 2004 at the shore promenade of Çanakkale. I stayed there for a few days and then left for Bulgaria by bus.

While we were heading to Canakkale we wanted to take the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen on all sides of the Dardanelles conflict during WW1. We were shocked and deeply saddened by the number of tragic deaths and lives that were lost fighting over this strategic strait.
If you haven’t visited this area then you really should if you are in Turkey. The Turkish government and commonwealth have done an amazing job with the cemeteries, all sides respected regardless of who invaded and who defended.

Çanakkale is a city and seaport in Turkey in Çanakkale Province on the southern coast of the Dardanelles at their narrowest point. The population of the town is 186,116 (2014 estimate). Çanakkale is the finishing point every year for an organised swim across the Dardanelles from Eceabat. This event emulates the swim in 1810 by Lord Byron, who was himself emulating the legendary swim by Leander in the story of Hero and Leander. Çanakkale is the nearest major urban center to the ancient city of Troy, which (together with the ancient region of the Troad) is located inside Çanakkale Province. The wooden horse from the 2004 movie Troy is exhibited on the seafront.

We leave Bucharest early in the morning, a road of over 600 km is waiting for us, which we will do by bus. With small stops, crossing the border between Romania and Bulgaria, then Bulgaria Turkey, crossing the Marmara Sea at the Dardanelles Strait. In the evening we arrive in Canakkale where we will be accommodated at the hotel.
