Naples, the vibrant and chaotic city in southern Italy, offers a wealth of experiences for visitors. As one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban areas in the world, Naples boasts a rich history and culture that is evident in its architecture, cuisine, and way of life. For those seeking things to do in Naples, the options are endless.
The city's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a maze of narrow streets and grand piazzas that invite exploration. One of the best things to do in Naples is to simply wander these ancient thoroughfares, stumbling upon hidden gems like tiny chapels, bustling markets, and local artisan workshops. The Naples National Archaeological Museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum, making it one of the top things to do in Naples for history enthusiasts.
Food lovers will find plenty to savor in Naples, the birthplace of pizza. Sampling authentic Neapolitan pizza is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Naples Italy. The city's culinary scene extends beyond pizza, with fresh seafood, pasta, and street food offerings that tantalize the taste buds.
For those looking for free things to do in Naples, a stroll along the scenic waterfront promenade, Lungomare, offers stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The imposing Castel dell'Ovo, a seaside castle with a mysterious legend, is another must-visit attraction that doesn't cost a penny to admire from the outside.
Adventure seekers planning things to do on a stag weekend in Naples might consider a day trip to Mount Vesuvius for hiking and wine tasting, or a boat tour to the nearby islands of Capri or Ischia. For those interested in weird things to do in Naples, a visit to the Fontanelle Cemetery, an ossuary filled with thousands of human skulls, offers a unique and eerie experience.
Art enthusiasts will find the Capodimonte Museum, housing works by Caravaggio, Titian, and other masters, among the top 10 things to do in Naples. The underground city, Naples Sotterranea, provides a fascinating glimpse into the city's ancient past and is one of the 10 best things to do in Naples Italy.
When considering things to do and see in Naples Italy, don't miss the opportunity to explore the nearby archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. These remarkably preserved ancient Roman cities offer an unparalleled window into the past and are undoubtedly among the best things to do in Naples Italy.
As you plan your visit to Naples, remember that this passionate city rewards those who embrace its energy and dive into its culture. Whether you're savoring street food, admiring baroque churches, or exploring underground tunnels, Naples offers a sensory overload that captivates and surprises at every turn. Visiting Naples - Italy: from Attractions to Foodies, a Tour in the City (10 Best Trip Tips - 4K)
If you are planning to visit Naples, in Campania region - Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the city, looking at the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Naples!
Three enormous castles, a royal palace, cathedrals, a city center which is a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to 470 BC, and incredible food!
In this video I’ll show you the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including: Piazza del plebiscite, Royal palace, Umberto I Gallery, San Carlo Theatre, the Promenade, Castel dell’Ovo, Naples underground, Maschio Angioino, the Cloister of Santa Chiara, Castel Sant’Elmo, San Martino Terrace, Posillipo.
So, what are ten possible attractions that I would suggest to a foreign friend who wants to visit Naples?
Piazza del Plebiscito and Palazzo Reale
Piazza del Plebiscito has always been the symbol of Naples. Opposite you will find the Royal Palace. That’s why the square is one of the most elegant spots in Naples.
Galleria Umberto I and Teatro San Carlo
Nearby you will find the Umberto I Gallery. Stendhal said There is nothing in all of Europe, that comes close to this theatre. In addition, the San Carlo theatre is the oldest still active theater in Europe. A sacred place of Italian opera!
Lungomare and Castel dell’Ovo
The seafront of Naples is one of the most fascinating landscapes of the city, overlooking all the Gulf. The walk passes through Castel dell'Ovo, the oldest castle in Naples.
Napoli Sotterranea
In “Napoli sotterranea”, or Naples underground, you will discover the Greek and Roman influences, and you will be able to relive the tragic days of the Second World War.
Maschio Angioino
The Maschio Angioino castle is the icon of historic Naples, and one of the main attractions of the city. It is an ancient castle built in medieval style and renovated in Renaissance style.
Chiostro di Santa Chiara
A gem to visit is the cloister of Santa Chiara: two paths with pillars covered with majolica representing scenes taken from the daily life of the time. A place that gives you so much serenity!
Castel Sant’Elmo e il Belvedere di San Martino
The highest point of Naples’ hills is Castel Sant'Elmo, from where you can see almost every point in the city. Once here, go to the Belvedere of San Martino, the most romantic terrace in Naples.
Spaccanapoli
Spaccanapoli is the heart of the old city. Translated literally, Spaccanapoli means Naples splitter, as the long, straight thoroughfare seems to divide the historic centre of the city in two: the walk starts from the Spanish Quarters and ends in Forcella.
Cappella Sansevero e Cristo Velato
The “Cristo Velato”, Veiled Christ, by Giuseppe Sammartino, according to many art critics is the most beautiful sculpture ever made, located inside the Sansevero Chapel, behind Piazza San Domenico Maggiore.
Duomo
Naples Cathedral is the fusion of different architectural styles - from Gothic to Baroque to Neo-Gothic, an enormous amount of frescoes, sculptures and much more to see here, and entrance is free!
Lungomare e Posillipo
Along the seafront to the west, you will arrive in Posillipo, a haven of tranquility and excellent restaurants where you can eat fish.

Ercolano (Things to do - Places to Visit) - ERCOLANO Top Tourist Places
Town in Italy
Ercolano is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania of Southern Italy. It lies at the western foot of Mount Vesuvius, on the Bay of Naples, just southeast of the city of Naples.
The medieval town of Resina was built on the volcanic material left by the eruption of Vesuvius (79 AD) that destroyed the ancient city of Herculaneum, from which the present name is derived. Ercolano is a resort and the starting point for excursions to the excavations of Herculaneum and for the ascent of Vesuvius by bus. The town also manufactures leather goods, buttons, glass, and the wine known as Lacryma Christi (Tears of Christ).

What’s your favorite city in Italy? Too many travelers ignore the beautiful hamlet of Naples.
The most popular attraction there is Pompei. An ancient eruption of Mount Vesuvius left it almost exactly as it was hundreds of years ago. The nearby city of Herculaneum is less popular but perhaps even better preserved.

Mount Vesuvius and Herculaneum Day Trip in Naples, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript:
The journey from Pompeii to Herculaneum is a scenic one with Mount Vesuvius to one side and the Bay of Naples to the other. It only took us 20 minutes to get there by train, so if you’re looking for a day trip, it doesn’t get much easier than this one. Just maybe don’t get off in the outskirts of town like we did, but more on that later.
Vesuvio's Express is a shuttle service that runs to the top of the volcano, so if you’re expecting a guided tour filled with lots of interesting facts, this isn’t it.
That being said, we were perfectly happy to tour the site on our own, and we couldn’t beat the price at 20 Euros per person.
The only problem we encountered was that the roads were completely iced over the further we went up the mountain, and at one point the bus just had to give up and let all the passengers off to go the rest of the way on foot.
Things got a little easier once we swapped icy paved roads for a dirt trail, though we also had snow to contend with, but we eventually reached the top. I would say one of the coolest things about hiking up to Mount Vesuvius was being able to see that it’s a volcano within a volcano, and while there was no bubbling lava visible to the eye, we could see steam rising from several vents.
Our next stop after lunch were the ruins of Herculaneum, an ancient Roman town that was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius. While Pompeii was covered in ash, Herculaneum was hit by the pyroclastic flow that followed the explosion of 79 AD, which also led to its preservation.
What at first glance appears to be a moat, is Herculaneum’s ancient shoreline. Here we were met with the aftermath of the explosion: a row of old boat houses, each of them filled with the skeleton remains of those who did not escape during the first day of the eruption.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

How To Reach Pompeii And Herculaneum From Naples (part One)
Herculaneum and Pompeii are the two cities destroyed by Mt. Vesuvius eruption in 79 DC. Reaching Herculaneum from Naples by train is very easy, it takes only 16 minutes, and it costs €4.40 return per person. The train runs every half hour. From the train station it is a very short walk to reach the entrance of the archeological site.
The old roman city of Herculaneum is buried under 20 meters of volcanic ashes, and the new city of Ercolano is built on top of that. For this reason, at Herculaneum, only ten percent of the city has been excavated.
For a good visit to Herculaneum plan at least 3 hours, the site is not huge, but there is a lot to see. Also, keep in mind that the line for tickets can be really long for this reason to buy the tickets online before reaching the site.
Most of Herculaneum is really well preserved, and most houses still have the old fresco practically intact.
In Herculaneum, you can see many skeletons of the people trying to escape the eruption.
In Herculaneum, it is possible to have a great idea of how the Roman elite was living.
We are two Canadians currently living in Italy. We moved to Italy in November 2018 to start a new chapter of our life's and we would like to share our story with. We hope you enjoy it.

About us:
In March 2017, Rick and Andrea (confessed Travel Addicts) started a Facebook Group called Travel Addicts as a way to share their travel photos and videos not just with their own respective friend's lists – but with the world. Part of the reason was for bragging rights (I mean, that’s kind of the point of sharing photos, right?), but also to help answer questions to others about the destinations they have visited.
After inviting some of our friends and family, it grew and grew – and as of June 2019, the group has grown to over 200,000 members! One reason for our success, we believe, is that we have done our best to ensure only high-quality photos and videos get shared, all while limiting the use of commercial content.

Visit Italy: Top 10 Sights in Naples & the Amalfi Coast
Top Ten Naples and Amalfi Coast
1.Pompeii: Destroyed by Mt. Vesuvius eruption in AD 79 this dugout treasure is an amazing day for kids and adults alike. You can see the temples, forums, ampitheater, brothel, and the casts of the people were killed by the falling ash and pumice stone.
2.Herculaneum: Another city destroyed by Vesuvius. The difference here is that Herculaneum was covered in mud so you can still see the mosaics and freizes that were throughout the homes in the town. It is like a picture taken in time.
3.Paestum: These Greek temples were sitting in a malaria swamp for years and now (with a little patience) you can see them all. They are in better shape than the Greek temples you can see in Athens.
4.The Isle of Capri: Home of the Blue Grotto this island is a great day trip from Naples or Sorrento. The people and food are great.
5.Driving along the Amalfi Coast: The ride is both awe inspiring and sometimes vomit inducing and the cliffs drop off into hidden coves and beaches. It is possibly the most beautiful coast line in Europe.
6.Ravello: a hillside town on the Amalfi coast with amazing views in all directions, plenty of space to run around and have fun.
7.Amalfi Town: (where this video is filmed) is a hub on the Amalfi coast with a beautiful church and a little beach to play with your kids.
8.Naples Historic Center: In Naples if you are up to the death defying traffic crossings the historic center is an amazing place. With the Cathedral and the Castel Nuovo (Castle) the city has much to see, though you will think you may be killed by a car at any moment.
9.Museo Archeologico Nazionale: This is one of the top Roman/Greco Museums in the world. The collections from Pompeii and Herculaneum are amazing and will take your breath away. THIS is the reason why you will go to Naples.
10.Mt. Vesuvius. The mountain that gave us the world volcano. Though its most famous eruption was in AD 79, the volcano still could blow any day now, so enjoy your trip up to the top.

Looking for Things Do in Naples, Italy? Or maybe an ideal day trip from Naples? Herculaneum is ancient town dating back to 79 AD, which, along with the more famous and extensive Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the same year.
Herculaneum is located in what is now Ercolano commune, located South of Naples itself, easily reached from Naples on the train heading towards Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.
The Herculaneum ruins are somewhat smaller than Pompeii, largely due to the current residents objecting to further excavation. Explore ruins, old grand houses with visible mosaic artwork of mythological creatures and tiled flooring.
Herculaneum can be described as a tourist trap - be prepared for lines and crowds. However, I would advise visiting the ancient shoreline as I did at the end of your trip, to view a selection of human skeletons discovered in a 1981 excavation.
Cost - 11 Euros for adults, free for children and 5.50 Euro for 18-24 with valid documentation eg passport.
Once again, apologies for the picture quality in certain lighting, this is due to a crack on my camera which I was unfortunately unable to resolve before filming this video.
Also featured, a slightly concerning experience at Eco Hostel Floreale in Ercolano!

How to Visit Pompeii and Vesuvius in One Day | 2022 Review and Travel Guide
There are tons of tour companies offering day trips to the ancient city of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. This video gives you a practical guide for how you can visit both of these locations by yourself in one day.
Pompeii was one of the towns destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in the year 79 AD. But that wasn't the only time Vesuvius has erupted - it's erupted dozens of times throughout the centuries. In fact, Mount Vesuvius is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world.
In this video I give you a practical guide for how you can visit Pompeii and Vesuvius in a single day, from either Naples or Rome. I offer recommendations for transport, suggested times to aim for, and things you need to think about before beginning your climb of Vesuvius in the afternoon.
To give you a sneak preview of what you can find at both of these places this video also gives you the history of Pompeii and surrounding towns, and shows you what you can find among the ruins. For example, a lot of dirty graffiti from ancient times. You can also expect some magnificent views from the road up Mount Vesuvius - and from the peak.
