While walking past the park, a group of teens were walking past me. One of the boys asked me a question, but smiled and told him that I only speak english. He became very excited and shouted for more of his friends to circle around me. After about 5 minutes of translation, things got a bit weird, so I left haha.

Located in Western Asia,[17][18] on the Armenian Highlands, it is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the de facto independent Republic of Artsakh and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and Azerbaijan's exclave of Nakhchivan to the south.[19]
Armenia is a unitary, multi-party, democratic nation-state with an ancient cultural heritage. Urartu was established in 860 BC and by the 6th century BC it was replaced by the Satrapy of Armenia. The Kingdom of Armenia reached its height under Tigranes the Great in the 1st century BC and became the first state in the world to adopt Christianity as its official religion in the late 3rd or early 4th century AD.[20][21][22] The official date of state adoption of Christianity is 301.[23] The ancient Armenian kingdom was split between the Byzantine and Sasanian Empires around the early 5th century. Under the Bagratuni dynasty, the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia was restored in the 9th century. Declining due to the wars against the Byzantines, the kingdom fell in 1045 and Armenia was soon after invaded by the Seljuk Turks. An Armenian principality and later a kingdom Cilician Armenia was located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea between the 11th and 14th centuries.
Between the 16th and 19th centuries, the traditional Armenian homeland composed of Eastern Armenia and Western Armenia came under the rule of the Ottoman and Iranian empires, repeatedly ruled by either of the two over the centuries. By the 19th century, Eastern Armenia had been conquered by the Russian Empire, while most of the western parts of the traditional Armenian homeland remained under Ottoman rule. During World War I, Armenians living in their ancestral lands in the Ottoman Empire were systematically exterminated in the Armenian Genocide. In 1918, following the Russian Revolution, all non-Russian countries declared their independence after the Russian Empire ceased to exist, leading to the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia. By 1920, the state was incorporated into the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic, and in 1922 became a founding member of the Soviet Union. In 1936, the Transcaucasian state was dissolved, transforming its constituent states, including the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, into full Union republics. The modern Republic of Armenia became independent in 1991 during the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

I didn't even come close to seeing everything that Turkey has to offer. This place is absolutely huge with countless tourist destinations, if that's what you are interested in.

Van’nın Tarihi ve Tarihçesi Van Anadolu'nun en büyük kapalı havzası olan Van Gölü kıyısında toprakları verimli akarsuları bol iklim koşulları oldukça elverişli bir yerleşim merkezidir. Bu yüzden tarihin eski çağlarından beri birçok medeniyetin hakim olduğu bir yer olmuştur. Arkeolojik araştırmalara göre Van ili yazılı tarih öncesi dönemleri M.Ö. 5000-3000 yılları Kalkolitik dönem başlarına kadar uzanmaktadır. M.Ö. 2000 yılında bu bölgede ilk olarak devlet kuranlar Hurrilerdir. Daha sonra Hurrilerin bölgedeki devamı olan yerli kavimler tarafından M.Ö. 900 yıllarında başkentleri Tuşba ( VAN) olan Urartu devleti kurulmuştur. Urartular M.Ö. 612 yılına kadar Van Bölgesinde güneyde yukarı Mezopotamya'ya kadar uzanan topraklarda hüküm sürmüşlerdir. M.Ö. IX. Yüzyılda Kral Sarduri tarafından Van kalesi yaptırılmıştır. M.Ö. VII. Yüzyıl başlarında Mezopotamya'dan Anadolu'ya akınlar düzenleyen Asurlular Van kalesini ele geçirince Urartular Tuşba yakınlarında Rusahinili (Toprakkale) şehrini kurarak varlıklarını devam ettirmişlerdir. M.Ö. 612 yılında Anadolu'ya gelen Medler büyük Urartu Kırallığı'na son vermişlerdir. Yerleşik bir nizam kuramayan Med Krallığı Persler'e yenilip yıkılınca Van ve yöresi M.Ö. 332 yılına kadar Pers M.Ö. 129 yılına kadar Büyük İskender'in doğu seferinden sonra Makedonyalılar ve M.Ö. 88 yılına kadar da Partların egemenliğinde kalmıştır. Tarihi dönem içerisinde Van ve yöresi Romalılar ile Sasaniler arasında çatışma sebebi olmuştur. M.S. 395 yılına kadar Sasani sonra da Bizans egemenliğinde kalmıştır. Hz. Osman zamanında Bizans'ı bozguna uğratan Müslüman orduları 644 yılında Van ve yöresini ele geçirmiş bu hakimiyet Emevi ve Abbasi devletleri tarafından da sürdürülmüştür. Eskiden beri Van bölgesinde yaşayan Ermeni azınlığı kısa bir süre Van çevresinde bir krallık kurmuş ve İslam İmparatorluğu'na tabi olmuşlardır. Hıristiyan sanatının mühim bir eseri olan Akdamar Kilisesi aynı adı taşıyan Ada üzerinde Kral Gagik tarafından 915-921 yılları arasında yaptırılmıştır. Çağrı Bey döneminde Anadolu'ya keşif amaçlı yapılan seferler 1071 Malazgirt zaferiyle neticelenmiş Van ve çevresi Büyük Selçuklular'ın egemenliğine girmiştir. Büyük Selçuklular'dan sonra bir süre Eyyübi egemenliğinde kalan şehir 1230 yılında Karakoyunlular'ın hakimiyetine girmiştir. Bu tarihlerde eski Van şehrinde bulunan Ulu cami Karakoyunlu Yusuf tarafından yaptırılmıştır. Karakoyunlular'ın Uzun Hasan'a mağlup olmalarıyla Van ve havalisi Akkoyunluların eline geçmiştir. Kanuni Sultan Süleyman döneminde Safevi Devleti'ni yenen Osmanlı orduları 1458'de Van'ı fethetti ve bu fetih 1555 yılında yapılan Amasya Antlaşması ile kesinlik kazanmıştır. Van Beyler Beyliği'ne atanan Hüsrev Paşa ve Kayaçelebizade Koçi Bey kendi adlarını taşıyan birer cami yaptırmışlardır. Aynı dönemlerde Kitap-ı Lugat-ı Vankulu adlı eser Vankulu Mehmet Efendi tarafından hazırlanmıştır. XIX. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından sonra Van'da ekonomik bakımdan güçlü olan Ermeniler ihtilal cemiyetleri kurarak Ruslar'ın da desteğiyle silahlanmaya başlamış 1915'te bir çok kaza ve köyde katliama girmişlerdir. Aynı yıl Van'ı istila eden Ruslar Ermenileri destekleyerek şehri ateşe vermiş ve Osmanlı ahalisi şehri boşaltmak zorunda kalmıştır. 1918 yılında Van yıkılıp yıkılarak büyük oranda nüfus kaybına uğradığından bugünkü yerinde yeniden kurulmuştur. Başlayan Türk harekatı karşısında işgal ettikleri topraklardan çekilen Ruslar ve Ermeniler doğudaki aşiretlerin de desteğiyle tamamen Anadolu'dan çıkarılmış ve Türk ordusu 2 Nisan 1918' de Van'a girerek şehri kurtarmıştır. 16 Mart 1921' de imzalanan Moskova antlaşması ile Ruslar Van ve Bitlis'e ait isteklerinden vazgeçmişlerdir. 29 Ekim 1923'te Vilayet merkezi olan Van'da Devlet ve Belediye tarafından alt yapı çalışmaları başlatılmış savaştan yakılıp yıkılan şehir yeniden inşa edilmiştir. Van isminin Kaynağı Bu konudaki bigiler tam olarak açıklığa kavuşturulmamış ve bu bilgiler rivayetlerden öteye gidememiştir. Evliya Çelebi Seyahatnamesinde Büyük İskender' in Van Kalesi'ndeki Vank adlı bir mabedden esinlenerek buraya Van adını verdiğini söylemektedir. Bir rivayete göre de şehri genişletilip güzelleştiren VAN isimli şahsın adından dolayı şehre bu ismi verilmiştir. Bu konuda akla en yatkın görüş ise Urartuca Biane veya Viane'den çıkmış olduğudur. Çünkü Urartulular kendilerine Bianili demişler ve Urartuların hakim devrinde Biane adı altında birçok şehir ve insan topluluğu Van şehrinde toplanmıştır.

Armenia (/ɑːrˈmiːniə/ (About this soundlisten);[16] Armenian: Հայաստան, romanized: Hayastan, IPA: [hɑjɑsˈtɑn]), officially the Republic of Armenia (Armenian: Հայաստանի Հանրապետություն, romanized: Hayastani Hanrapetut'yun, IPA: [hɑjɑstɑˈni hɑnɾɑpɛtutʰˈjun]), is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located in Western Asia,[17][18] on the Armenian Highlands, it is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the de facto independent Republic of Artsakh and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and Azerbaijan's exclave of Nakhchivan to the south.[19]
Armenia is a unitary, multi-party, democratic nation-state with an ancient cultural heritage. Urartu was established in 860 BC and by the 6th century BC it was replaced by the Satrapy of Armenia. The Kingdom of Armenia reached its height under Tigranes the Great in the 1st century BC and became the first state in the world to adopt Christianity as its official religion in the late 3rd or early 4th century AD.[20][21][22] The official date of state adoption of Christianity is 301.[23] The ancient Armenian kingdom was split between the Byzantine and Sasanian Empires around the early 5th century. Under the Bagratuni dynasty, the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia was restored in the 9th century. Declining due to the wars against the Byzantines, the kingdom fell in 1045 and Armenia was soon after invaded by the Seljuk Turks. An Armenian principality and later a kingdom Cilician Armenia was located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea between the 11th and 14th centuries.
Between the 16th and 19th centuries, the traditional Armenian homeland composed of Eastern Armenia and Western Armenia came under the rule of the Ottoman and Iranian empires, repeatedly ruled by either of the two over the centuries. By the 19th century, Eastern Armenia had been conquered by the Russian Empire, while most of the western parts of the traditional Armenian homeland remained under Ottoman rule. During World War I, Armenians living in their ancestral lands in the Ottoman Empire were systematically exterminated in the Armenian Genocide. In 1918, following the Russian Revolution, all non-Russian countries declared their independence after the Russian Empire ceased to exist, leading to the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia. By 1920, the state was incorporated into the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic, and in 1922 became a founding member of the Soviet Union. In 1936, the Transcaucasian state was dissolved, transforming its constituent states, including the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, into full Union republics. The modern Republic of Armenia became independent in 1991 during the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
